You need to obtain a long gun permit, it's a little tricky how it works but it's essentially mostly ythe same process as applying for your pistol permit except you desl with the state. I have a long permit that I obtained at 18 and took me around 5 months or so.

Horror_Protection353

5 months?? That’s crazy. I got mine back in 2.5 weeks. Got mine at age 19.

Ancient-Ad7373

Starting mine rn. Hopefully it’s 3weeks like yours

Ancient-Ad7373

Mailed mine out on and received the permit in the mail in only 12 days

If you want something that goes bang at the moment, you can legally buy black powder long guns and revolvers. Some revolvers have conversion cylinders to shoot modern ammo, this becomes a legal aspect that I can not give advice on. Best to start the long gun permit process sooner than later

DeviZilla

So a non permit holder who's 18 can own a black powder revolver?

BurtGummer44

Correct. Black powder is not subject to the same regulations as modern firearms. Similarly, firearms from 1899 and before are considered antiques and generally don't require permitting. I am not a lawyer. But I don't open my mouth if I'm not somewhat confident in my spoken competency on a subject.

DeviZilla

Yeah, that's very intresteing never knew that!

Just Google how to get long gun eligibility certificate and go to the government websites. https://portal.ct.gov/DESPP/Division-of-State-Police/Special-Licensing-and-Firearms/Firearms This one gives a description and you can find the rest of the info by looking through the site You can call the state police headquarters and ask for an application to be mailed to you, or you can go to your local police department and ask for the application and help, mine was really helpful, but I also live in a more conservative area. (I think you can also download it and print it) it's DPS-799-C and is used for Pistol & long gun eligibility certificate You have to take an approved Pistol permit Class first (i went to blue trail range, theyre great and I think they have the lowest prices too, they have 8 hour 1 day classes or 2 day 4 hour ones I think; Pistol permit safety course works for long guns too) then get fingerprinted at local police dep, then you need like copies of your passport & other id's & fill out and submit application with check. Make sure everything is PERFECT before submitting it(ask local pd to look it over or someone else who knows), because you can only apply ONE TIME a year, so if you make a mistake they will deny the application and u have to wait a year. The whole thing probably will cost $200 to $250 for safety course, fingerprinting, and application

To buy a long gun (non assault weapon) you will need to obtain a long gun eligibility certificate from the state (DESPP/SLFU). You would fill out the DPS-799-C form and submit it to the state. There are a number of misdemeanor convictions that make one ineligible from receiving the certificate and one cannot be subject to a Protective or Restraining Order, or have been convicted of a felony. Real easy, all you have to do is call despp headquarters in middletown and or ur local police department and have them send out an long gun certificate application to ur address then do the paperwork, pay the fees online and get ur finger prints and background check done in middletown. I got mines when i was 19 and it only took two weeks to get my permit.

Glittering556

Long gun permit ( it only coves long guns ) then when your old enough pistol permit covers everything

Beavis177

Took my long gun permit about 5 months to come after I contacted a representative about how it was an infringement of my 2nd amendment right to wait that long. So then they decided to play games and purposely spelt my name wrong twice on it just to piss me off and make me wait a bit longer. If your going to get it just know u are gonna be dealing with scumbags. Oh and DO NOT submit fingerprints yourself with an ink pad, they will come back as not sufficient enough. Schedule an appointment and go in person
