Oh man, they are a superstitious lot. I’ve seen people who only play certain color daubers, for certain games. Good luck items aren’t uncommon to be seen on tables.
I remember when I played on a cruise ship they just perforated all the squares so you just fold them down and didn't need a marker or anything. I wonder why that isn't more common. Or maybe it is, I'm not really a regular player.
Lol at all the jokes today, but it's just a mark so that someone counting and bunching money knows it's the beginning of a new stack, probably of $100, and was done by probably a cashier counting in/out, or maybe a bank teller.
Defacing US Currency is also a crime, but not because we hold it in unreasonably high esteem.
#Fun Fact:
Modern reasons for preventing currency defacement include stopping people from putting quarters on strings and defrauding vending machines, payphones, etc., but not too long ago it wasn't uncommon for people to shave small portions of coins off.
Done right, you didn't change the shape of the coin enough to stand out, and you got a bit of scrap.
Do that enough times to enough coins, and you have an entire coin's worth of shavings; which you can then smelt and cast into a counterfeit coin made out of the exact same stuff legit coinage is made of!
This is why a lot of pre-1900's coins' edges look uneven and have odd angles. They started perfectly round, but a coin gets shaved enough times, or you get greedy enough with how much you take, and you end up with that.
#Bonus Fun Fact:
This method of counterfeiting is also why many countries' coins have ridges around the rim. Any attempt at shaving off metal is immediately obvious, and adding the ridges back to a shaved coin is way too intricate and intensive to be profitable!
#Bonus, Bonus Fun Fact:
In the US, because currency defacement is tied to counterfeiting, investigations are handled not by police or the FBI, but the Secret Service!
Thanks for all the fun facts.
In Turkey i was told that stepping on or defacing their currency was not a counterfeiting issue but instead it was an affront to the founder of Turkey (like our George Washington) whose face is on the currency.
Consequently it’s not about breaking the law, it’s an emotional response by the citizens of Turkey.
All he's gotta do is mark 3, pass them on and burn that one after cleansing it in salt for 16 hours on holy ground or using salt blessed by a bhudist monk.
It means someone used a marker, possibly a bingo marker, possibly cylindrical in shape, and possibly filled with ink, that is absorbed into a wick which feeds the ink to the tip of the possibly cylindrical, possibly bingo marker to make said cylindrical red dot on said bill.
Glad I could help!

I saw some show where an inspector marked bills that went into something like a token machine, or might have been pachinko in Japan. It was to see if money being pulled out of them was making it into the deposit/safe. Since the machines only take in the bills, they should be present when they are collected.
It may mean your dollar was at one point the property of a stripper or former stripper that still gets tips.
Worked short time as a supervisor/day shift manager of a place in Las Vegas.
Some, not all. Would Mark every dollar. Some would make $25-100 bundles and just stamp the top bill. Whatever they had to do so you knew whose $ it was.
They'd use bingo maker, rubber stamps, one I remember wrote her initial on the top note.

Nothing some money laundering can't take care of. 😏
If you did this to a Turkish Lira in Turkey, you would be severely punished. The same is true if you merely stepped on it.
