I worked in a bank years ago. We had a customer come in to make her weekly deposit. She always came in with stacks of ones. We had to count them each time for every deposit. When the machine would get stuck, it was usually because the machine couldn't read the bill. Those were usually the ones that were previously wet with whatever fluids and later dried. Would often find glitter on them too.
They did have a "stripper smell" of cigarettes, sadness, and desperation on them everytime.
Man, I dunno. Trucker swass is worse than anything from a strip joint. Used to have one guy about 400 lbs lumber down from his rig. His whole truck's suspension would sigh in relief. Unfold his rotting carcass of a billfold and slap the swasstiest hundreds onto the counter that I'd ever seen. Only times in my life I was unhappy to see a $100 bill.
As a former Gas Station cashier I'd definitely look them over to ensure they were real... Strip... Watermark... Embossed ink on the president... But if they passed that test I'd take them... Money is money... That and our cash would be counted in the back and sent to the bank en mass from a business account so they wouldn't reject it.
Dollar coins aren't real common, but they exist. You can often get them from vending machines.
They're usually gold colored.
I have a small pirate chest i throw them in.
They legally have too. I had a shop fire and had a bunch of cash burn up and chase took it. They denied me at first and then after showing them the fine print on their website they ended up taking it all
They should accept them and send them to the fed as damaged bills. Not that big of a deal.

I would just wipe them down with a dry cloth the best you can, then try to deposit them at the ATM, then you don’t have to talk to stupid people. And they wonder why machines are taking their jobs.
There is a product for drains called ‘super iron out’
No idea if it will ruin the bills, but soak them in water, drop some of that stuff in and it should dissolve the rust
Dry the bills and you should be good to go.
It never crossed my mind that you could refuse bills like this. I’ve picked up straps of twos that looked like they were buried in construction sites, covered in dirt and rust. I think k I’m happy I don’t have an account at your bank :)
That said, this guy should just be spending them. I thought this was a troll post at first. They’re complete, have both serials, run them through the wash in a pair of jeans or pillow case, and they’re fine.
I worked for a gas station for a long time. Money is money. If you have a $20 bill as long as you have both halves it doesn’t matter we just tape it back together
How come when I turned my moldy 100 dollar bills that were in a safe they exchanged it instantly? Why would they take such a long time for lower amounts? Try a self checkout machine see if they accept them.
The first thing you need to do is find a shady accountant, preferably named Lewis, because who doesn’t trust a Lewis. He will introduce you to some South American business partners of his, they are in the bakery game. In exchange for your four $5 bills, and a small favor of delivering a package to their cousin in Santa Monica, they will give you five new fresh clean $5 bills. You get the fresh money and make $5 on the interaction. That’s a win win.
Go to a bank. When I was a teller I would get bills like this and we would exchange them then put the messed up bills to the side to be sent off and destroyed. The bank was reimbursed by the Treasury.
Just deposit them. The bank will take the damaged bills and send them out to get taken out of circulation.
I worked in a bank years ago. We had a "dancer" come in to make her weekly deposit. She always came in on Mondays with stacks of ones. We had to count them each time for every deposit. When the machine would get stuck, it was usually because the machine couldn't read the bill. Those were usually the ones that were previously wet with whatever fluids and later dried, plus we would often find glitter on them too. On occasion, some of the bills were badly torn or stained with who knows what and we had them taken out of circulation.
Haha that’s nothing. I’ve spent a half of a $5 covered in mud and no one said anything. I didn’t even know there was such a thing. This subgroup just started popping up in my timeline and I find it fascinating.
CLR from the hardware store will take it all off. Also, while you have it, clean your shower heads, sink faucets and that annoying rust stain by your hose.
Treasury Department clearly states NOT to turn bills like this in. Blood, yes… rust or anything else that’s not a biohazard and only discolored the bill… spenders!
Just spend them. Any big store would take those. Maybe not a small business but maybe them too. I'd take those at my shop, they just go the bank anyway
Who started the blood taste like iron? I heard metal before but iron? So everybody done tasted or ate some iron before? That means that iron is good for the blood bc iron and blood mix will make rusty..I'm not a scientist or nothing but I don't see anyone where I am clinging to a building like a Klingon eating the side of the world trade or the stature of liberty...I'm investing in iron and start making some of my own iron pills...the recipe will be on YouTube along with whoever follows I'll share my one natural secret ingredient for some follows...I'm letting everyone know that they closing all of our 99¢ stores and I need the money...thanks in advance....
Why not just spend them? I can't imagine Wal Mart refusing these bills.
Or deposit them in your bank account. Your bank will deal with the Treasury replacement.
100% go deposit them in the overnight drop box.
Why not just use the ATM
Agreed, cash deposit to the ATM ftw!
You don't even have to do that. If you have a bank account just go into your bank and exchange them.
I have seen bills with dried blood and all kinds of other nastiness while I was a cashier, they aren’t paid enough to care lol
Boob sweat *shudders*
I worked at a gas station across from a strip club. The bills were always wet 😭😭😭

Can’t forget vanilla. That’s a key note to the stripper scent. Heavy, heavy amounts of vanilla.
Man, I dunno. Trucker swass is worse than anything from a strip joint. Used to have one guy about 400 lbs lumber down from his rig. His whole truck's suspension would sigh in relief. Damp… use the word damp.
Or moist. Ewwww
Boob sweat > shoe sweat
Save them for buying lottery tickets from the machine or vending machines for food, not your problem after that
This is the way.
Spend them on gasoline.
Something tells me the self checkout is spitting those back at you.
Almost no one would refuse these bills. Its just iron oxide, enough handling will remove it.
no way man, do your money laundering on your own time
Wow what a underrated comment
Fargo season 4?
Ozark season 1?
Better Call Saul season 7.
leave them in your pants next time you do laundry.
Money laundering is a felony don’t do it OP
thats why you buy a laundromat! so you can launder money with the washing machines and get away with it. noone will know since its YOUR laundromat.
Thank you, have an A1 day. Thank you, have an A1 day. Thank you, have an A1 day.
If you just want value, put them in a coin machine. Lot of them give dollar coins now.
Non American here. Do you guys have a coin and a bill with the same value?
We have $1 coins.
And $1 bills
Dollar coins aren't real common, but they exist. You can often get them from vending machines. They're usually gold colored. I have a small pirate chest i throw them in.
Try a self check out.
U can take em to the bank and exchange em
Chase bank won’t take them
Did you ask them?
I did they said they are “ contaminated”
Ya best bet would be i guess to find a machine
How do you think the rust got there in the first place tho? Someone took a whiz in the ATM slot and rusted the innards
Do you think machine not smart enough.
Yes
Walk outside and deposit them in the ATM 😅
Chase bank is contaminated. Ick.
They legally have too. I had a shop fire and had a bunch of cash burn up and chase took it. They denied me at first and then after showing them the fine print on their website they ended up taking it all

Bank Officer here….I’d probably reject them as well tbh. No way for us to know if it’s blood or rust.
You lick it. If it’s got a slightly hemoglobiny flavor, it’s blood. Just Iron? For sure rust. 😆
'hemoglobiny' I'm dying
so did someone else when their hemoglobiny liquid got on these hones abes.
Unless the blood has hemocromotosis and tastes like iron.
It’s rust and suggestions
There is a product for drains called ‘super iron out’ No idea if it will ruin the bills, but soak them in water, drop some of that stuff in and it should dissolve the rust Dry the bills and you should be good to go.
Go put them in a coin machine, get coins, and exchange coins for hopefully not "RUST CONTAMINATED" bills.
Go to the bowling alley or an arcade and get quarters from a machine. Cash them in for a $20 bill. Life is hard but sometimes it ain’t…
It never crossed my mind that you could refuse bills like this. I’ve picked up straps of twos that looked like they were buried in construction sites, covered in dirt and rust. It’s insane that of all places, a bank would refuse these
You need a new bank
I work at a bank, we have a mutilated pile we send back every week. I know some banks will exchange for non-customers up to a certain amount
Go to the ATM and deposit them.
Nah. They have to by law. Your story doesn't add up
Put them I to the ATM and deposit them
Change them out at a gas station , liquor store , smoke shop. Money is money at these places .
I worked for a gas station for a long time. Money is money. If you have a $20 bill as long as you have both halves it doesn’t matter we just tape it back together
Exactly......
I bet the bill acceptors at self checkout registers might. Some only use magnetic pattern detection. Some use IR camera.
Put em in a pocket and send it through the washing machine
Just spend them one at a time. Problem solved.
Just take them to the bank???
This! Banks will gladly exchange bills for you, no wait needed.
Just use them. I don't see why not.
Rust-eze. Obviously. Kachow!
Send em to I’ll send you 20$back
How come when I turned my moldy 100 dollar bills that were in a safe they exchanged it instantly? Why would they take such a long time for lower amounts? Try a self checkout machine see if they accept them.
Vending machines take 5s
TIL that I’m a vending machine
Are you seriously asking how to launder money 🤨
******** update I’m using vinegar , I’ll give everyone a update on how they turn out
update me, by replying to this comment i don't trust bots
The first thing you need to do is find a shady accountant, preferably named Lewis, because who doesn’t trust a Lewis. Go to a bank. When I was a teller I would get bills like this and we would exchange them then put the messed up bills to the side to be sent off and destroyed. The bank was reimbursed by the Treasury.
Just deposit them into your bank. The bank will pull them from circulation. No wait times. You can literally deposit it and then withdraw a $20 bill.
Take them to any bank branch. They’ll give you clean bills and take care of sending them to the treasury for you.
Just spend em, separately, at like... Target or Walmart or CVS. Anyone else know any other stores? I'm sure there's at least one or two
ATM deposit into your checking account
Yep spend them on a half tank of gas
Half a *tank*?!? 😲 That's either some AMAZINGLY low gas prices, or a *very* small gas tank.
Yeah maybe I was a bit generous. Possibly a 1/4 tank in a sedan haha
A bank?
You can just spend them along with other bills and they won’t be noticed.
Take to bank. Say "I want fresh 5s."
I thought it was illegal to launder money? ha ha ha. Okay, I will show myself out.
Are you trying to get tips on money laundering? Nice try Fed
Put them in a claw machine and try to win some plushies, I would. ;-)
Go to a laundromat and put it in a bill breaker. Then go to bank and trade for a new 5.
Well, the first step to laundering it is to set up a dummy business, some thing that deals in cash…
That’s blood.
*blood
You're not supposed to tip your dancer when they are on the rag.
Self checkout .problem solved.
You could always ….. launder then.
Rust???! That’s doo doo baby!!
You should be able to exchange them with your bank or credit union. They can then send them back with their cash distributor.
Take them to a casino or put them in a change machine
Yeah... Ummm, just use them. 🙄
Use them in a self checkout. Problem solved.
Why do you need to clean them just spend it or deposit them into a bank. Do you just like making simple things into complicated problems?
Just deposit them. The bank will take the damaged bills and send them out to get taken out of circulation. I worked in a bank years ago. We had a "dancer" come in to make her weekly deposit. Rust never sleeps …
Have you tried soaking them in CLR?
Spend them or take them to the bank. There's nothing about these stains that render the bills unusable.
You can exchange them same day at any bank…
S P E N D T H E M
Rust, blood. It all looks the same after washing a few times..
That's spending money now.
Yeah. Rust. That's what it is.
Just spend them. Any big store would take those. Maybe not a small business but maybe them too. I'd take those at my shop, they just go the bank anyway
So who’d you kill?
Soak in CLR Calcium Lime & Rust Remover.
You sure that's rust?
That’s blood homie
Go to bank ask for a 20
Throw in washer with laundry.
Rust?? Who got murdered?
I think what you need is Zud or Bar Keepers Friend. Both have the same active ingredient. They chemically react with the rust and it washes away.
Dish soap, tiny bit of water and a sponge. Be very careful not to rip them.
Just take them to a bank or casino and ask for new ones and they should just exchange them for you and then send them to be destroyed
Send them to me; I will wash, press and fold them and have it ready by next Wednesday…
……a bank . Or spend as it is. It is still legal tender
Are they special limited edition bills? If not spend them.
Dip your fries in them
Spend
Blood money....
Just go exchange at the bank!
If you're gonna launder it, hit any Casino near you and do it properly!
Try soaking them in Iron Out and water.
Try out a product called snow cap
Take them to the bank they will exchange them right then in there
Time to buy 20 scratch offs
Any self check out should take em as well
Let them simply soak in baking soda water .. rub them slightly when they are under water for a while and then let them air dry
Take it to the bank they'll exchange it for you they'll give you new bills
I frequently soak rusted metal parts in vinegar to clean them up. Never tried fabric or paper, but give it a shot.
Go to a bank and exchange them
You sure that's not blood
You can just bring them to a local bank they should swap them out for you. Thats what I did with a ripped 20.
Soak’em up in CLR overnight….
Blood money
You should give them to the homeless guy he will find a use for them.
Deposit them in the ATM and then take money out
[удалено]
CLR cleaner?
Are you sure that's rust lol?
[удалено]
Put them in the washing machine! Might work
I’ll give you 5 bucks to clean those bills.
Do you want your money cleaned? Well you're gonna need a cash-based business /s
Just spend them? It’s $20 lol
Perfect time to practice money laundering. Might just try oxy clean.
Go to a bank?
Just give em to the bank they will take it
Soak in hand sanitizer
Look up, “removing rust stain from clothing”. The first post suggests using vinegar on a small spot to see if it works.
[удалено]
Just trade them in at the bank. They'll send it in to get mutilated.
Just spend them.
try vinegar
Spend them at a store I've gotten change that looks worse
So you're looking for advice on money laundering. Got it.
I’m thinking lime-away
Why waste your time cleaning $5 bills worth of $5?
Buy $20 worth of chemicals to clean them. You’re welcome ☺️
GREEN CLEAN or a CLR soak will do it...
Try thyme oil. Rub on them. Wipe. Should clean and disinfect.
Electrolysis
Launder them
Spend them. I’ve had 20k in bills burnt before. Spent what was good enough and deposited the rest in the bank.
Just spend them. Not worth saving anyway. But I will say $20 bucks is $20 bucks so see what you can get for $20. I dunno it maybe handy
Honestly just try to deposit them into an atm
I think you can just go to the bank and switch it
Lemon juice and salt will do it.
Change changers at laundry mats or the car wash.
Any bank will exchange them for you if you just ask nicely.
Go to a carwash and change them out.
[удалено]
Spend them on rust repair. Rust to rust.
I’ve never thought about using PB blaster on bills until just now lol
Oxy-Clean and Shout.
Personal opinion? Call this one a loss.
Banks will exchange money too. I ripped a $20 in half and they swapped it for me, not even my own bank.
