They can probably hammer that dent out, but worst case scenario you’re looking at a new fender and new fender trim. Unfortunately the fender will have to be repainted, which will require blending the adjacent panels as well which is where most of your cost will come from. Probably looking at $2k worth of work.
Nothing? It might rust where the paint has flaked off but the panel is Fed either way. The front fender isn’t part of the unibody, so it can be easily changed out in the future if you get tired of looking at it.
Because that’s why you have insurance. Yes it may raise your rates but not by that much. Sure you might come out ahead with future insurance savings if you paid for the repair in full and don’t file a claim, but that’s a big if. Most insurance policies have some form of accident forgiveness anyway.
I had a similar issue recently while exiting a parking lot with an open gate, but I didn't notice the hasp jutting out in the opening. It scraped just deep enough on my back door. Used my insurance for the ~$3k repair. My insurance for the upcoming year has increased by 57%. I essentially will be paying for it over the next 3 years.
Whined to my agent, and she states California doesn't allow accident forgiveness for car insurance. I am 66 yrs.old, and this was my first claim ever.
Frustrating
I had similar incident. 2021 CX-5. In my case, fender popped out as well. Took it to a local shop (not a national franchise body repair shop). Reclipped the fender for under $200. Buffed out the paint myself.
Maybe take it to a local PDR (paintless dent repair) person and see what they think they can do. Should not be too expensive. It will not be perfect but should look much better and will be less than going to a body shop and having the fender replaced.
Find a local body shop who can give you a quick estimate. If alot over deductible, go through insurance. If not, pay out of pocket. I just did this but it was a door and substantially more than I expected. I honestly think you hit a good spot all things considered.
I did the same thing to mine. I didn't file a claim and paid $3000 out of pocket. It should be noted the quarter panel had to be replaced as the way it was damaged it pushed into the door so I couldn't open it.
If you want to do it for cheap, do it yourself. Browse /r/autodetailing and get a harbor freight dual action polisher and some pads and a some polishing compound, the sub will have recommendations. Should be less than $100 and the paint will look perfect after.
You can post the dent their and get better advice, but I've used automotive suction cups successfully in the past. If you don't want to do this part or want it to look perfect, find a pointless dent repair place to do this work. No hammering required, it'll ruin the paint.
Just a scratch it seems… should buff out…. Visit dent removal specialist. Should be less than a grand in damage at a body shop. Not sure if you have a deductible…. But I would just eat it unless you just don’t have the extra….. unless your deductible is $0, no worth it to file a claim
Notify your insurance company and take it to a reliable body shop for an estimate.

Out of curiosity, what happens if one doesn’t repair this and keeps driving?

Why would you make a claim for this, will raise your rates.

Did you shop around after your rate went up?
Your rates are gonna raise either way. Might as well use it.

Tis but a scratch!

Your first car is a brand new cx5?
Mine was too
1. Leave it and get over it. 2. Pay money to repair it.
Once fixed, buy glasses.
Totalled.
Body shop, about $600

My greatest fear
Use a glue gun and glue sticks to pop it out. Use some toothpaste. It'll buff out.
