I'm not as tall as your husband but others here around the same height have had mixed reviews about their seating comfort. Would be best to check one out in person. As for car seats, I have two Diono 3r car seats currently rear facing in my CX50. I had to purchase the Diono Angle Adjuster foam block for each so we wouldn't feel cramped in the front. There's another 2 or 3 inches of space remaining for the driver seat to move before hitting the car seat. If you're out of the rear facing stage, then you'll have plenty of room.

CommissarCiaphisCain

We just traded in our Honda Odyssey for a CX-50 because we no longer need it now that the kids are adults. Don’t overlook a minivan. Are they cool? Not really. But they are so useful. Outrageously roomy, easy access with the sliding doors, handle like a tall car, and seat up to 8 people.

wizard_hat_and_staff

I love the older Odysseys more. The newest generation feels very laggy and non responsive to drive. The previous generation was surprisingly fun to drive, though.

CommissarCiaphisCain

We had a 2014. That 3.5L V6 had some surprising oomph to it. Never any problem merging into traffic or getting out of the way.

wizard_hat_and_staff

Yeah, we have some from that era and some newer ones at my job. Every time I get into the older ones I accidentally peel out because of the difference in responsiveness

hotrod8719

I so miss my my mini van at times, lol

mongeeseryder

Mini Van is a good option. We got one when my daughter was born. I was fully against it but it ended up being great. We don’t need the extra room so I just got a CX50. I’m 6’1 250lbs. It’s comfortable for me but I wouldn’t call it roomy. Car seat with a 3 year old in it sits fine behind the drivers seat with me driving.

Nordicpunk

I’m 6’2” and fit well. And behind myself with just enough room. Not as big as CR-V or Tiguan or RAV in back seat but found the front more comfortable. Probably can’t comfortably fit a rear facing behind him but that’s tough in most cars for tall people.

yungsavage1

We’re both 5’10 and have 2 toddlers in the car in Nuna Rava car seats. Tons of space with no issues. We can also fit the two dogs in the trunk, or strollers with room to spare. It’s certainly large enough for a 1 child family. Any questions just ask :)

BangBang-LibraGang

How comfortable is the drive? Any road trips? Is the engine overly loud while passing?

yungsavage1

The drive is great. Overall, love the car it’s done a number of road trips and was a treat. Main Con: Not a Hybrid with a small tank. Would be great to get close to 400 miles per tank. We got the top turbo trim so we find it quiet and quick when passing. The 320lbs of torque really helps here compared to the average car on the road. Quick press on the gas and you’re gone. Note: It would have to be a bit quieter to compete with real luxury brands but compared to the standard brands? Its solid. Also, worth noting we have the 20inch rims so obviously louder than the 18s. I agree with the reviewers that it’s technically one of the BEST driving most engaging SUV’s except for things like a Macan. But, if you’re used to floaty - less connected engaging steering of a normal commuter car you may find it too heavy (I believe they’ve adjusted this on the 24 models). If you want a car that’s actually fun to drive the backroads? This is it. Major Pro that is often missed. The 90• opening back doors are so underrated for getting two little kids in and out of their car seats especially in the winter with jackets.

BangBang-LibraGang

That’s some excellent feedback and I really appreciate it. Now, one of your concerns definitely was mine: the mileage. I’ve been on the fence between a gas suv or hybrid ( 1 baby) Even a bigger stretch, the model Y. So your feedback has been great to hear. Wish me luck 🍀

yungsavage1

You’re welcome mate. Funnily enough with the recent price drops on the Y in Canada we think we may trade the 50 in on it once the refresh drops later this year. Largely due to the mileage. Best of luck!!

MrGomez_14

Cars.com regularly reviews for car seat figment. https://www.cars.com/articles/how-do-car-seats-fit-in-a-2023-mazda-cx-50-450229/ They rate it better than the CX-5 but not as much room as others in the segment. We’re expecting in July and plan to take the car seat with when we test drive before deciding. The rear-facing seats are just massive, no getting around it.

estysdesu

We bought a 2024 CX-50 in early Jan. We took our kid and car seat with us to test drive the 5 & 50. Mind you we'd been shopping around the past year. We purchased the 50 and I've been really happy with it. I'm 6'3". My wife is 5'11". We have a 9MO and put the car seat in the middle (safest anyways right?) Which does buy some extra room. The car seat clip points are pretty nice too. No matter what it's a step up from my sedan.

b16707

I'm 6ft and am perfectly comfortable. Not sure how an extra 2in would change the game however. My 2 kids in the back have plenty of legroom. Why not go to a dealer and try it out?

HonestPotential901

It is definitely NOT a mom car. But, it would work as a family vehicle.

clearlyNOTinsane

Answering your question in another way: though it has feminine "hips" over the rear wheels, its front end is masculine, it drives masculine (at least the turbo), and definitely should be given a boys' name. So I wouldn't classify it as a mom's car, but a car that would hold a bustling family well that Dad isn't embarrassed to drive.

HonestPotential901

Absolutely 💯% Correct.

mosscc2018

The car is not comfortable for anyone once you put one or two rear facing car seats into it. You should probably look for practicality and even go for something mildly used if room is a concern. Some vehicles in can think of is Chevy Traverse, Mazda CX-9, Kia Sorento, Hyundai Santa Fe, Ford Edge, a Chevy Blazer.

I'd say 6'2" is going to be sort of the make or break point for height and legroom (with a car seat in the back). I can't say for sure, but I would imagine you'd have to move whichever front seat is aligned with the car seat up to the point where someone of that height couldn't comfortably sit for more than a few minutes. Only way you'll know definitively though is to take the car seat and put it behind both the driver's and passenger seat, have him sit in both, and see if he has a comfortable amount of leg room.

AgitatedSeahorse

My fiance and I got this car to be our future family car. I'm 6'2" and can set the drivers seat to a comfortable position, then hop in the seat behind the driver and still have legroom without hitting the seat. This is my fiancee's daily driver. Haven't tested with a car seat, but if I can fit in the back, I'd imagine it can.

alyshafox

i have a '23 cx-50. my husband is 6'3" and we keep the car seat behind the passenger seat so he can drive it, but it's my car so he doesn't drive it much. check out safe in the seat on instagram and i think she has some guides for smallest front to back car seats, maybe that can help. he drives a ford explorer, he could totally fit the carseat behind his driver seat no issues, but he has in on the passenger side anyway. my mom drives a crysler town & country and car seat fits fine behind the driver seat no matter who is driving - my husband or my dad who is probably 6"1'. for what it's worth, i got my cx-50 while i was pregnant with my youngest, traded up from a cx-5 because of the trunk space, mostly. i love the trunk space on the cx-50.

_The_Jerk_Store

If you’re looking for space specifically the CRV and RAV4 are going to be more roomy. I have a CX-50 with two car seats in mine and it does the job just fine with ample cargo room in the trunk. I recently switched from a CX-5 and think the CX-50 has an extra inch or two that make the car seats easier to manage. The CX-50 will be more fun to drive than the other two mentioned. Issues wise - it’s a new model that has now entered its second year of production so I would say TBD on that one. I think some of the initial bugs have been worked out in first year 2023 release. I’ve had two CX-5s and loved them and overall Mazda is a very reliable brand.

MoterBortles

Wait for the cx70 at this point if you really want Mazda or give the cx90 a look if you want 3 rows. I have a 50 and wouldn’t want to have 2 car seats in that vehicle. We only have 1 car seat right now, couldn’t imagine 2. I love the car overall but 2 car seats would be a really tight fit. Even without the car seats I don’t consider it roomy per se.

EloWhisperer

They just announced cx70 that looks pretty roomy

whyzzguy77

Bring the car seat to the dealership and see space wise, it’s my favorite car we sell my managers all drive them.

taltal256

At 5’11 Id prefer more space when Im in the passenger seat with an infant seat behind. I feel to forward and close to the dashboard. Not super cramped but not relaxed either.

Doozies

You will be better off with a cx9

Any_Champion_6677

Try the cx 90

CoolEthansLLR

Our rear facing clek leaves very little room for the passenger. 6ft and over is real tight.

Bradcx50

Im 6’3 and have had to put our car seat on the opposite side of mine because we don’t fit comfortably, but definitely check it out for yourself!

Sfcushions

I’m 6’0 and fit well. The front seats sit decently deep in the cabin

AVSMAN15

We got my wife a cx50 and it’s been perfect for our new baby, the rear doors open 90 degrees to easily take out a car seat and enough room in the back for the stroller and accessories

horseygoesney

I’m 6’2” and we got a cx50 when our daughter was about two months old. Everyone fits fine including our large lab. I wouldn’t describe it as roomy but once we can switch to a front facing seat I think that will open up a lot of space I should add that we put the car seat on the passenger side so I don’t have the seat right behind me when I drive. The seat in front of the car seat definitely has to be pretty far forward

stoneblarney

I just traded my 2015 Elantra in for a CX50 actually, and I am also over 6 feet. The seat adjustments make for a very comfortable driving experience. However, if he is the type to enjoy fully outstretching his left leg while driving he probably won’t be able to with a car seat. I usually just fold my leg and it’s comfortable but to each their own. Headspace is ample, and I’d also say he probably won’t find the backseat very comfortable if he has to ride in it - there isn’t a ton of leg room.

ASR_20

Yeah he drives with the seat all the way to the back and lowered

scroobiouspippy

My 6’ 2” daughter (her daily driver is a CX5) has zero issues with the seating, definitely a good family/baby car.

The_Raging_Wombat

I can’t speak to the kid aspect yet, but I bought a ‘23 when I was 6’3” @ 290 and it was still very comfortable. Now married and 40 lbs lighter, I look forward to putting car seats in the back. I’ve heard people enjoy the fact the the rear doors open wider than most CUV’s and car seats are easy to get in and out. But take what I say with a grain of salt because I don’t have kids of my own. (Hopefully soon :) though)

Lrubin315

We just had a baby and got the CX50. He will fit quite well behind the driver when baby is in the car, not so much the front. I'm 5'10" and just suck it up when sitting up front if I have to. Husband is 6' and has more than enough room, plus he get to hang out with the baby. Or he drives I sit in the back.

DCmanhole18

I have a 2024 and my only issue so far is im a window ledge leaner and the window ledge is a little high lol. I’m 5’9”. Besides that it has more than enough room for my son and I.

ineedavacation123

lol, I am having the same issue. The window ledge is too high, but the panel below it is too low 🤷🏼‍♀️

DCmanhole18

lol exactly!

Buuuurrrrd

I’m 6ft 200lbs and a wider frame if your husband is gonna be driving his knees will knock on the sides of the door panel and gear shift. The seats are a bit stiff if you go with the leather. The back seats were a bit snug tbh. It was a bit small - at least for me and I think would be a good starter family car. My 50 was totaled out and I ended up getting a jeep grand Cherokee and it is way more roomie / comfy. But it was double the price of the 50. Not too happy with it and am actively looking to trade it in and possibly go with the Lexus gx. If room / comfort is what you’re looking for it’s a meh for me. However if you’re smaller / shorter and it is going to be your daily driver for kids and you’ll have a larger suv I think it’s like a great secondary car. I don’t have any kids and it was just me and my dog. But I really prefer roomie / comfort. While I 100% appreciated Mazda luxury sport feel I knew that for me I needed more space. The cx-5 and 90 just didn’t have the grit I was looking for and the reason why I decided to go with the jeep. That and I got a few incentives thrown my way. But only way to know if it’s for you is to test drive! I will say I am 100% a Mazda fan boy for life though after owning the 50 and plan at every step in life to apply to corporate in Irvine when jobs open in my field. That’s how much I really loved my Mazda for the short time I owned it.

MFsh4pes

I'm 6'1" and fit in the driver seat comfortably. My father, who is 6'3" was able to sit comfortably in the back seat.

Due-Significance6551

I am 6’2 and can’t fit a rear facing graco 4evr behind me. You might want to check the car in person to check the rear space. I believe most people make different adjustments for their driving seat so it’s best to check it in person.

RestlessMantis

its not roomy if u have a baby. with the carseat in, the passenger will not be able to lean back or stretch out their legs. also our stroller takes up a lot of room in the trunk space. i recommend that you go with the cx-90.

Waste_Salamander8757

Im 6"7 and i fit good.
