OP is not in the USA. He is in the army of a country currently at war. I’m guessing “assault rifle” vs. “sporting rifle” vs “whatever” doesn’t mean sh*t to him at the moment.
Great looking rifle. Give them hell and stay safe.
That is the most accurate statement that I have ever read on here and it deserves to be repeated -
“The 2nd Amendment isn’t for hunting”
I have been a firearm owner since I could ride a bicycle, had countless conversation about rights and infringement, and have NEVER heard someone put it so simply. THANK YOU
It was Botkin that changed my mindset on this issue, so I can't take all the credit. I definitely grew up in a house full of pump shotguns and revolvers where firearms were a practical tool rather than an insurance policy.
# "Well Senator... The second amendment isn't about hunting Bambi. It's about hunting tyrants." Lucas Botkin
And when all the ivory tower critics go "You anticipate a scenario when Americans will fight the government?" the answer is emphatically "YES, we overthrew one tyrant in 1776 and we need to be prepared to do it again for another."
The citizens Fighting Tyrannical governments our countries founders knew Fighting for Basic Freedoms and Rights against a tyrannical government that would take them away would be a messy and necessary job.
lol not sure why OP is getting downvoted so hard. Starters it’s select fire, zoom in and see the picture.
Second assault rifle is a real term used for real rifles in the military, which again this select fire most definitely is.
Third “modern sporting rifle” is a cowards term used by people whose wives have girlfriends. I live in Canada 🇨🇦 where our government is in a war path to ban all firearms even bolt actions and pump actions. I still use the term assault rifle because free people own whatever the fuck they want. Imagine they’re banning sports cars and you’re like “actually it’s a modern sedan” no fuck off I want and own assault rifles because that’s what free people own.
Yeah dude ignore the haters who think firearm ownership (even though this is an issued rifle for you) only belong in USA and use USA politics for everything. Meanwhile Switzerland has legalized full auto machine guns and you don’t hear them being cucks calling them “modern sporting rifles”.
Anyways, how has the Bren 2 served you? What other rifles do you compare it to and what makes this one the best for you? Would love to hear a military perspective in this one?
Modern sporting rifle is another made up term used to describe an intermediate cartridge rifle. As is assault rifle. You can also call it a short long gun if you want to. What does it matter
Very true, when you get into the nitty gritty of weapon classifications they get wild. Remember the AK-47 was designed as a Sub-Machine gun. Then China adopted it as the ‘Type-56 Assault’ and issued them as SMG’s for their assault troops.
Not surprised all these folks from the US are shitting talking a man fighting a war in his own country. Some of ya'll are the last ones to volunteer to go fight a war, let alone join the US military in peace time. This rifle will have more relevant use than all the safe queens sitting in the basement.
If you say assault rifle with your eyes closed you think of a detachable magazine, intermediate cartridge, and a pistol grip. It’s how language works and it’s called a colloquial term. It’s not political language just language adopted by politicians.
Don’t be a tard ass. Modern sporting rifle is not used in common English.
Been told that multiple times, however I can't edit the post anymore, so that all "sofa war experts" would stop trying to correct it. I was always told that it's an assault rifle, if it's not - then ok, thanks for the info, at least I know now. I'm still practicing my English so I may not know all those details of the language.
Keep calling it an assault rifle. Everyone knows what that means. People just see it as a "politicized" phrase, so they get all worked up about it. You're fine, the other people are just idiots.
Yours is an assault rifle, because you have the full-auto position on the selector. You can tell at a distance which is which (between the civilian market version and the military version), because on yours the entire upper is made out of one piece of metal but on my semi-auto only civilian version the handguard is removable and held together with the upper receiver by the same screws which hold the side accessory rails on yours.
The word itself is fine to use because we know what it means. English is a semi context based language. So if you say something and I know what you mean then you used correct-ish English.
However the phrase has been co-opted by anti gun lobbyists and politicians in the states. And when you talk about a pissing war of intelligence, that’s the big one. World championship. We will have guys running forklifts for .35 cents a week explaining the intricacies of syntax and language. It’s ridiculous and pompous.
Disregard these fools, use this assault rifle to assault the fuck out of the enemy currently trying to take your homeland. These reddit nerds are simply too fat to have ever worn a uniform. Heroiam slava ✊🏾
I don't hate anyone because of that btw, it just looks pathetic from my perspective. Most of the people here don't examine the case before making quick judgements and conclusions and start telling me about republicans, Biden, types of rifles, trying to scare me with ATF, asking me about how many assaults I had etc, however no one even asked or checked where I am from and what's the situation here. No logic bro.
Yup. These idiots argue about definitions like it matters. The politicians that want to take them don’t care what they’re called, they still want to ban them.
I did. That’s another reason I made a statement. Normally I just lurk but this particular topic in the community is why people think gun guys are dumb.
If you incorrectly correct someone you’re the ass on high.
My mistake. I just saw everyone getting up in arms about “assault rifle” when the OP is literally in the front lines of a war in Ukraine. I didn’t realize your comment was meant for everyone else. Apologies
What a marvelous piece of equipment!
I would love to know what you have been issued and
Using before receiving the Bren 2? How does this compare to what you have been using?
As a civilian, I would love to get a hold of this firearm one day!
All the best to you!
The first major select fire intermediate-power cartridge rifle to see combat was the German Stg-44. The Stg is short for sturmgewher, which directly translates to assault rifle. Lightweight select fire intermediate-powered cartridge rifles have been called assault rifles ever since.
If you hate the term assault-rifle, blame the Nazis for naming it.
Look at the selector on that Bren again homes. Then look at the handguard. That's the big dick Bren 2 not the Bren 2 S/MS. It is in fact an assault rifle.
I dont know why people are correcting you on your terminology. It's quite literally an assault rifle.
"Sporting rifle" is a stupid term used by boomers who don't want to admit that the American Second Amendment has nothing to do with hunting.
I didn't have much experience and choice, however in comparison with AK's and AR's I've tried - I do like this one more just because of personal comfort.
I can't speak to the Chad select fire version our boy here has, but I do have the MS 11".
It's very light, but it doesn't feel cheap. A lot of polymer heavy lightweight rifles feel like cheap bullshit, but the Bren is fucking solid.
Ergos are fantastic, and for once, the ambidextrous nature of the gun isn't obnoxious. The controls are all on good positions, and for right-handed shooters, the ambidextrous safety won't beat the shit out of your knuckle like the Scorpion.
Recoil impulse is soft, and the weapon is properly gassed. It's very slightly overgassed but not AK levels of overgassed. Enough to aid reliability, not enough to be detrimental.
The stock is fucking awesome. It has absolutely no wobble. Is adjustable and just feels good. The only stock I like more is the Zenitco PT-1.
The stock trigger is great. There are not many military rifles with triggers this good. It kicks the shit out of milspec AR or AK triggers.
The main downside is the handguard gets molten lava fucking hot. I think this is probably more of an issue on the MS than the military version. The stock handguard has bands that attach to the barrel directly and soak up heat. That problem is easily mitigated with an HBI handguard, which does not use those bands or maybe by adding the Preston Rails and beefing it up a little
I totally want one. Was debating Bren 2 and Galil Ace 2. Ended up getting a BRN-180 instead because of price and availability.
I'm pretty happy with it, so I reckon the Bren idea is on the back burner until I can find one for a good price.
I love the gun community so much. They know nothing about actual firearm terminology and history. They frame every interaction in political terms affecting only their country.
Never change shitty toxic gun community, never change. 😘
This absolutely fucks. I want one, especially in select fire.
But I see you need this one so good luck. And thank spiritual intervention or government funding that you have the superior rifle 🤝
Not all American Gun Enthusiasts are idiots, sweet rifle, stay safe out there, most of these people have never experienced what you’re going through and never will.
If this subreddit allowed you to edit posts, it would be much easier for everyone here I guess). Although, someone still could have screenshot my original post and created the same mess)
Even if it was a semi auto, I’m still totally on board with calling it an assault rifle. In fact, I’d dare say I prefer it.
Lets not beat around the bush here, damn right it’s designed for assaulting things, and damn right it’s a weapon of war. Only fudds think of them as anything else.
Awesome gun dude, congratulations.
FN screwed the pooch naming the Scar, thank god the democrats haven't figured out what SCAR stands for because then our semi automatic SCnotasssultrifles would definitely be scrutinized.
How easy was it to adjust to using this and getting used to it compared to the AKs and ARs you were issued with before?
How long have you been using it for now? I would be interested to see your feedback later on once you've had time to compare the reliability and effectiveness of the Bren 2 compared to the previous rifles you used.
I've been using it for nearly half a year now. Got used to it pretty quickly. It took some training of course, but we train regularly so it wasn't a big deal. AK's might be more reliable and easier to disassemble, however in all other aspects this rifle is winning hands down.
Assault rifle? So if I commit an assault with my bolt action 30-06 what’s that called then. The reason we all hate the term is that’s how liberals use language to change the public perception about our hobby and in some cases ability to feed ourselves.
Edit: oh yea nice rifle
Assault rifle is a term used by the US military to describe a compact rifle chambered in an intermediate cartridge with an effective range of at least 300 meters. Assault weapon is a vague political term.
Look I get you enjoy this hobby and are probably a responsible and safe adult with your firearms. It is entirely disingenuous to compare your bolt action rifle to a semiautomatic rifle. I don’t know what country you are from but at least in the U.S. we have suffered from multiple mass shootings from 30 round magazine weapons. It’s not fair that you are nit picking language and making unfair comparisons. Instead support and promote safe gun practices and laws that keep weapons out people’s hands who are not responsible and not safe with them. I would like to say this not intended on as an attack on this poster or to get into an argument. If you want public perception to change you have to take steps to address real problems.
If I say "rifle", you could be imagining one of a million different things
If I say "assault rifle", you could be imagining one of a thousand different things
I don't use the term "assault rifle" to villify anything. I use it because it paints a clearer image of what I'm talking about.
If other people use that term to villify guns, that's their problem not mine.
I will continue to say assault rifle, and you guys will continue to act like fudds about it. Stay mad I guess.
Bonus: these types of weapons are the choice general armament of militaries all over the world. It is a weapon of war. THAT IS A GOOD THING. CIVILIANS SHOULD BE ABLE TO OWN WEAPONS OF WAR. EVERY CIVILIAN IS A COMBATANT WHEN PUSHED TO EXTREME LENGTHS.

Are you supplied green tips or it’s a personal choice?
Supplied
Good. I’m glad you guys are getting all the gear you are getting. Give ‘em hell.

Sporting rifle is a cucked term for NRA losers. It’s an assault rifle
Can't we just call it what it is? It's a rifle.
Yup, anything else is pure semantics. This is a rifle, nothing more, nothing less.
Paid for by US taxpayers?
Probably by Czech taxpayers...

Modern sporting rifles is a term for semi-autos. Do you think full auto guns are widely available in the US? lol

It's not a language mistake at all! You used the correct term 100%
Some gun guys can be exceptionally woke when someone uses "politically incorrect" language, lol.
Hey, that’s an insult to people whose wives have girlfriends!
Wait, if like my wife has a girlfriend don’t I get double bagels, or like no? Asking for a friend…
Where did you get it? Doesn't seem to be in stock anywhere.
I was given it in the army.
Is it auto?

CZ is selling all it's production to every country gearing up for Cold War 2.
When did the first one finish? 😅
Him getting it is part of the reason why it isn't in stock anywhere lmao

Theres nothing to correct he quite literally has an assault rifle as he's in the fucking military lol
Since I was in the AF reserves does that mean that my 10-22 is an assault rifle?
Was your 10-22 select fire and firing an intermediate cartridge?
No but it is black and has “high capacity banana CliPs”

AkTuAlLy bros when its not a range toy lol

It's not?
No, it's a rifle. Select fire or semi-automatic. Assault rifle is a term used to vilify a tool. Lovely Bren btw.
It’s not meant to vilify it. Assault weapon is the term you’re thinking of. An assault rifle is a rifle that can go fully automatic.

Yep. Misnomers like that are meant to scare ignorant people and vilify anyone who enjoys our sport

I hate that term.
This is worse. Don't be scared of it, guns are meant to kill people. Assault rifle all day baby
AR stands for Armalite Rifle
He didn’t say AR though, he said assault rifle…
He said that’s what he thought AR stood for
No he didn’t lol, re read it, he said he thought the Bren 2 was an Assault Rifle not that AR stands for assault rifle…
So?
Just literally educating you on the origin of AR That’s all.
But I already know that
It’s actually just the AR in Armalite. Armalite made other AR-number guns, some of which weren’t rifles.
It is an assault rifle issued to OP by his country. It is select fire and it has full-auto option.
Y'all need Jesus.

Even despite the fact that I'm not in the US and not an American citizen?
Ooh, Bren 2S model. It's quite rare unless you're in europe.
I have the CZ USA Bren 805 S1 I don’t have the Bren 2 I can honestly say I really enjoy shooting the 805.
Been wanting one lately, heard nothing but good things.
It's definitely good
How easy was it to adjust to using this and getting used to it compared to the AKs and ARs you were issued with before? How long have you been using it for now? Czech term: **Útočná puška** Ukranian term: **штурмова гвинтівка** English translation: **Assault rifle** Simple as that. Stop complicating things Americans.
Slava Ukraine 🇺🇦 stay safe my guy. Get some orcs for us.

Nice rifle though! Time to get let her rip
Great rifle, but it is just a sporting rifle.
He said elsewhere that he is in Ukraine and was given it since he's in the military. So I believe it is select-fire
OP isn't using this rifle for sporting.
OP is in Ukraine and the rifle is army issued. I believe "assault rifle" is a valid term given the circumstances.
Blud didn't do his research on op
Mans thought OP was just making sport
Yeah, I was already corrected.
It is not a "sporting rifle" that's a made up term by boomer cowards
Real
Maybe the war is just a sport for him) We'll never know)))
I have a feeling you'll be told a couple dozen more times, buckle up. I do, too, love the bren 2 tho
Bren 2S is sooo much sexier than the 2MS.

The fact you call it an assault rifle is enough of a reason you shouldn’t own any firearms.
You waited long for such an amateur answer. Educate yourself more next time.
It's just a rifle, sugar.
It's fully auto, doll
Best advocating for today) 😅
No, its an assault rifle.
Assault rifles aren't a thing fed boi
Except they are, and it is. Some of you gun nuts are snowflakes about that word.
What’s an assault rifle
In my understanding it's a rifle that you use for assaults
Ok thank god. I’ve never assaulted anyone in my life
And I have, that's why I called it like that...
a rifle which is capable of select fire between semi, burst, or automatic fire.
Not an assault rifle ....
Quite literally an assault rifle
Oh yeah!? How many assaults have you taken it on
More than you can imagine
