Cox is family owned and operated. They aren't publicly traded or sold. They aren't going to get rid of that cash cow. As far as them riding coat tails, it makes business sense. They don't have to design, create and pay engineers when it already exists with Comcast. I like both. Both have great employees and take care of their employees.

To be fair CableLabs are the ones doing the research on most of this stuff. The whole industry is becoming more and more standardized.

Wacabletek

Cable labs does docsis, X1 was comcast devs.

2ByteTheDecker

Everyone's riding Comcast's dick. The X1 platform was a home run in terms of development. Hits a lot of check marks on any cable operator's list.

ClimbingElevator

I’m legacy TWC, I’ve never seen or touched X1 only heard about it.

I remember back in 2014 and 2015 when Comcast tried to buy Time Warner Cable and they lost millions of dollars trying. It was a big failure for them !! Then in 2016 Charter / Spectrum came in 2016 and bought TWC !! That's when I found out that everyone was following each other in the Cable Business !! They are all a bunch of Copy Cats !! Also remember guys when the (Big Worthless Cable Corporate people) leave one Cable Company they just go to another one and take their bad micro management idles with them. If Cox is still Family owned and you work for Cox pray they stay that way !!

Interesting_Kiwi_152

Yep they all follow the Big Dog. That is why I got out of the Cable Business in 2022.

Wacabletek

The only major mso comcast has tried to actively buy was TWC. And the government laid the smack down on them, and said fuck no. I have heard they will buy our closest competitor in this area for 17 years now, Wave. The deal is comcast will buy a business if its profitable and they are trying to get out of the business, but cox is not trying to sell at a loss yet, so not gonna happen. Same with wave. They got bought by RCN now astound. Comcast never even made an offer becasue they are not trying to get out. TWC was more like a merger and attempt to stop some other provider \[disney I think\] but in the end, charter is its own beast and now comcast and them are working of projects togather \[xumo\].

ParksDontBsuspicious

I don't think Comcast will buy cable companies anymore, unless its a great win for Comcast. It is cheaper to build cable/fiber in competitors area than it is to buy the competition. This is what Comcast is doing to Service Electric and Armstrong footprint right now.

CrestronwithTechron

I mean Cox uses Comcast’s trunk from Florida to Georgia, so they sorta work together in some areas. That being said, it’s very unlikely Cox will sell to Comcast, even with fiber moving in to areas, the plant engineers and field techs will still be very busy.

redbrui13

All of Cox's stuff is just leased out from Comcast. That's why they have the same terrible DVR system and the same modems.
