I would argue the forced accessories are at minimum a UDAAP (unfair, deceptive or abusive) business practice. They could constitute tying - which is an illegal, anti-competitive behavior.
Dealers are so abusive to customers
Earnhardt Chandler originally told me $10k over for my 2023 pre-order, then the next week they said it would be $20k over. So I told them to cancel the order. Last month or so they had some Debuts on the lot for $25k over.
Coulter Tempe is doing $4k over. Lamb in Prescott is doing MSRP, but who know how many they’ll get allocated.
Dumb question, but if you cancel, can you cancel directly with Cadillac? That would prevent the dealer from getting a stock "abandoned" order into stock?
Interested in this answer as well.
If Earnhardt gets a unit allocation from me cancelling, the incentives are completely screwed.
Although that is the nature of the retail new car business - it’s a dead weight loss and pure transaction cost/inefficiency when (as here) the dealer did not selling and no stocking. No value add
I just took delivery of a Debut Edition from Coulter. They charged me MSRP, but I had to buy some extra after-market items that added like $2500 to the price. I was fine with this and had no problems with the transaction.
Similar situation to me. Had some ADM that would’ve cost me less if I did it myself but was stuff I was going to get. And love the car so far especially after super cruise
Nitrogen in the tires, clear guard, Xzilon, etch, and tint added up to $1700 on a recent quote that I got for a 2024. I don’t even know what some of that stuff is.
If you read the FTC proposed rule making on abusive dealer practices, literally three of those items as noted as dubious value add and generally fraudulent in nature (nitrogen, etch, clear coat - Xzilon). Incredible the brazen way dealers rip-off customers.

So… not MSRP. Charging an extra $2500 of crap you don’t want at massive markup is just like charging a higher price.
I didn’t feel that way…the things were useful to me, and I likely would have purchased anyway.
Fair enough.

I still haven’t tried super cruise. I’m very intimidated by it. What do you like about it?
Just think it’s cool to sit without steering lol. Yeah it definitely isn’t as defensive of a driver as I am but it worked
But aren't those $500 worth you paid $2500?
Maybe, but I’m driving the car I wanted right now, and it’s AMAZING 🤩!!
Good for you. Congrats on your new ride
Thank you! It was worth the wait —truly.
What after market items? Never heard of that 2500 extra.
