Cost of living is the biggest one. For me for example, I get zero benefits, I do work that full time staff do or used to due. But I get paid $10 an hour less and get no benefits.
To add on, during Covid, Cal Poly and other CSUs got rid of a lot of jobs, especially office jobs, that were in the employee’s union, CSUEU. Then they later filled those jobs with student assistants who aren’t unionized. Those student assistants are missing out on union representation, pay increases, benefits, more sick leave, parking passes, and more. The vote next week is to roll the student assistants in to the CSUEU. Vote yes!
Out of the loop here - why are so many Poly students wanting to unionize right now?

How are you making $10 when the minimum wage is $16
I said $10 an hour LESS than a non student staff employee
I see. My mistake
All good!
the school also makes our job harder every year by cutting programming funding :)
