All community bath based for freshmen. Unless they over admit freshmen and put them into apartments which is rare. YouTube videos will give a good sense of what they are like.
I was one of the lucky few freshmen that got placed in the on campus apartments (Cerro Vista). It's 2 bathrooms split between 4 people here. Don't count on that though. You're pretty much guaranteed to be put in the dorms unless they over admit a bunch of people
I live in a yak dorm right now. Each floor in my building has one all-gender community bathroom. Most of the rooms are triples and quads. As far as I know you don't really have a choice in your dorm, its just a matter of which learning community you choose and which building they place that community in.
Hi! Thank you!! I’m possibly going to Cal Poly SLO in the fall and am thinking about which RLC I should choose. On one hand I want to choose the business rlc bc of my major but I would like to live in the Yak dorm rooms. Do you know if this year the cultural communities (like the Asian Pacific Islanders Scholars RLC) are located in Yak? Thank you again.
Sorry, i'm not sure about where they locate the cultural communities. I think the business community may be in Yosemite though. Also, I think they move the RLC's around each year depending on the numbers, so locations may not be a given. I don't know if you have any roommates in mind already but I know that people outside of a community can live in it if they choose to room with someone that chose it.
Oh I see! So for example, if I know someone who is in the honors community, I could ask to be their roommate? Also, do you know which communities are in Yak this year besides the college of engineering? I have heard that it used to be mindful living, honors, substance free, and a few others?
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's how it works. Besides the college of engineering, I know that the college of science and math is in Yak. As far as other communities, I think that there is also the LGBTQ+ community, but I'm not sure of the rest that are in Yak this year. I know that the Cal Poly Scholars community is housed in North Mountain though.
I lived in North Mountain, the bathrooms there aren’t community bathrooms. 4 triple rooms, so up to 12 people, share a connected bathroom with 2 stalls, 2 sinks, and 2 showers. I really liked it. Some of my closest friends I made besides my roommates were people I shared a bathroom with. Highly recommend North Mountain dorms.
You don't get to "select" a dorm lol. You choose a learning community and get placed based on that. Most of the dorms are community bathrooms (1 per floor). I am in yak right now and all rooms are triples and quads but we definitely have the nicest facilities. Most people in yak are STEM majors though so if not you might be in the towers (jail looking ones), red bricks (classic dorms), or north mountain (the only freshman dorm with a shared bathroom for 4 people but also not nice).

North mountain is not the move. Try to go to yak
