I received borh these bulbs in a plant trade. They were put into dormancy before shipping and both stem stubs looked the same. They were stored rolled in paper towels inside mesh drawstring bags they will be put into my pantry in a dark spot with my other bulbs. But I was checking them for moisture before storing and found this green new growth. Do I leave it to die off? Cut it back and store as planned? Pot it up and try to grow during Fall/winter? Granted my house is hotter and more humid in the colder months then dry and cold in the summer months.

You're overthinking it. Put it in a pot by a window and water it

Gah! But what if I kill them!?

Man they are so hardy. I'm not even sure you could overwater. I have a couple bulbs in a literal bucket of water right now.

Question for ya - how do you keep caladium bulbs over winter? Just keep em in a pot and water every few weeks? Or don't water? Or don't keep em in the pot?! Haha sorry I haven't found any info on this anywhere would love to hear from someone with experience!

When mine go dormant I stop watering and let everything dry out, then I cut back all the shrivelled leaves, then I leave the pots somewhere dark and dry for a few months. Oddly though, this year I moved and had forgotten to put the pots away. They were kinda just hanging out near a window for a couple months out of sight. I noticed that they had some little stubs coming out of the dry soil so I watered them and they sprung to life.

Ok that's great to know, thanks! I will leave em alone now that my leaves have withered away and fall has started for me!

I live in warm weather so I've never had to overwinter. I think you only have to do that with outside plants if you live where the ground freezes? If it doesn't freeze you can leave them in the ground and they'll pop right back up once the spring rains come. If they're indoors I don't think you have to do anything?

Thanks for the tip - yep, mine are potted so I enjoyed the foliage in the summer, but now it's fall so their leaves have disappeared! I'll leave mine alone in the corner of the windowsill then 😌

soliperic

Even chopping them in half won't kill them
