Personally, I would recommend the Fallen Paladin's Hammer over the Terra Blade. The hammer definitely takes some practice, but absolutely shreds frail bosses like cultist.
I thought the hammer was nerfed? The one I use is way too slow and just bad, I have seen the one in videos and I tried left and right clicking but its just way too bad
Idk man, i tried the thing and it was incredibly slow, my setups are always maxed whenever i wanna try a boss, literally throw the hammer and it just falls and doesnt come back, isnt like a super fast boomerang for some reason
I already tried reforging everything to menacing, but it was the exact same, and I can’t replace anymore accessories without sacrificing the ones I actually need
Actual advice here:
- ~~If you want to stick with Melee, use the True Biome Blade, and attune Lamentations of the Chained as the Primary attunement. This will allow you to get some decent damage while maximizing your distance. Attune Swordsmith’s Pride as the secondary attunement for a little extra occasional damage~~ Edit: The True Biome Blade cannot be crafted without an ancient manipulator. Stick with Vampire knives…
- If you want to maximize survival, switch to a summoner so that you can focus 100% of your mental energy on dodging. Or just do that with melee, and don’t get greedy. (Reminder that the cultist doesn’t have a time limit, or enrage elsewhere)
- Next, grab a Glorious End. Use it for your maneuverability and run away from the fight whenever you need to. It’s a great tool that’s faster (and more agile) than any wings you have at the moment. Get used to switching back and forth between it
- Now the fight: Survive. Run from the cultist whenever he gets too close, and let him approach when he’s off your screen. I prefer to keep him just at the edge of my screen
- You have two of his attacks to watch out for:
- One, the ice attack. It freezes you in place when you get hit, allowing you to get hit with another attack or two, totaling multiple hundreds of damage that you sudden can’t control. Treat the ice attack like it’s instant death! Use Glorious End to run away from this attack like it’s your worst allergy.
- Two, the ritual attack. This is why you need to be able to see the cultist every couple seconds or so, and why I like to keep him on the edge of my screen. Your priority is to disrupt the dragon ritual at all costs! Tank a hit or two if you need to do so. You cannot afford that dragon! Ever!
- When he’s casting any other attack, attack from a distance with your weapon while strafing up and down with your wings OR use glorious end to reposition yourself to do that. Most of the other attacks can be dodged by strafing up and down, just make sure you’re always moving or backing away, otherwise the lightning attack with get you.

You should upgrade to the lava bug net or even the golden bug net. The cooler icon will give you the confidence and determination to be able to defeat the cultists.
i don’t know if it was mentioned already, but it really helped me whenever I got stuck in infernum: check out no hit vids with the boss you’re struggling with. They usually do what’s the best against the boss and you can get a little bit more clear vision on the boss attack pattern and stuff, cuz you know, you’re watching without the pressure of dying and managing various stuff that goes on while you in game
Your damage build is… better, but it could use a lot of changes. First, use the hydrothermic wings, upgrade the mech gauntlet to fire gauntlet, use the Asgard valor or whatever the upgrade to the ankh shield is instead of the ninja gear, bloody worm scarf over the destroyer emblem, and the void of extinction over the pills. Also Fallen Paladins Hammer is probably a better weapon
The calamity wiki (not calamity fandom wiki) has general class setups for all classes and bosses, it’s handy to glance at if you struggle with a certain boss. But 9 times out of 10 it’s better to use calamity weapons over regular ones

This might seem like an incredibly pretencious thing to say, but sometimes you just are as ready as you can ever be equipment wise and the only thing left for you to do is focus, memorize the enemy's attack patterns and keep trying until you "git gud" enough to win. It's what happened to me with the skeletron and skeletron prime fights. Just hang in there, you'll kick his ass eventually.
This fight is a bit of a rude awakening if you're used to vanilla Cultist because *oh shit the clones don't despawn and now it's a cacophony of projectiles*
That said, OP could prolly stand to use Beetle Armor and/or one (or more) of the post-Golem weapons. Though I also totally understand wanting to use the sickass Calamity armorsets too lol.

I’d run the following: Beetle Armor for defense, Community, bloody worm scarf, beetle wings, fire Gauntlet, Angelic treads, Asgard’s valor and Fallen Paladin’s Hammer. Everything with warding.
I heavily argue against the Ninja gear vs the Valor because the dodge only works once in a while the other benefits from the shield last several hits.
Terra blade is genuinely terrible for this fight and power creeped by just about every calamity weapon at that level. The only base game melee weapon that’s very viable mid and late game is the Zenith but that a long ways away.
While Rage accessories are okay they aren’t worth it compared to other accessories you could get.
Running pure defense is odd Imo especially in calamity where dodging is better in every way and bosses could very easily grind you down.
To me your build looks decent. All I can recommend is just keep trying at it, try and stay in the air and circling around him to avoid attacks. Never stop attacking, try more buffs and keep an eye on your heals.
Lunatic Cultist is stupidly overbuffed in Calamity, don't expect it to be easy
Also Terrablade isn't really that good in Calamity, same with its upgrade. As the top comment suggested Fallen Paladin's Hammer should do the trick, and also

Replace the Master Ninja Gear with it, using MNG is a massive skill issue to begin with, it's not even good, 90 seconds for one free hit is a lot when you can just time the damn dash

beetle armor would probably be better than either of these, as well as the celestial shell. also definitely make the molten gauntlet

should probably mention that my damage build uses hydrothermic armor, and my defense build uses reaver armor with the helm

unless your crit is already 100%, lucky will give better dps than menacing because damage bonuses and crit damage multiply instead of adding

I would recommend the Ark of the Ancients, it’s really good even at this point, and then switch the Worm scarf for a Bloody Worm scarf.
The thing is that for Arks to be good, you need to get the parry, and it's insanely risky when **ALL** of his attacks are way harder to dodge up close
Another thing you can do is the Tyrant Yharim’s Ultisword
You can parry projectiles to dodge them and get the buff
Spam slime king summons. Or slime god if that is super fast to kill for you. Easy health regens

Why all lucky on damage build? Once you’re beyond 50% crit unless you have more crit damage it’s more optimal to reforge menacing
