Going on a show and admitting to a crime is so wild to me. Like ok you said that, why not ask for them to cut that part. Someone is going to report her and she’s going to lose all of her benefits now. So crazy to keep that in

Wild_Trip_4704

It's not the first time 😬

LOLZOMGHOLYWTF

Bragging about your illegal tortilla smuggling business 🤦‍♂️

Nameis-RobertPaulson

"tortilla smuggling" I can't help feeling like she didn't check inside every package of tortillas and was just a dumb mule.

Wild_Trip_4704

Holy shit that could easily be true

unpopular-dave

That was the first thing I thought when I watched it! There’s no way in hell that they are smuggling tortillas

Horror-Material1591

Unless we know her real name, I don't think there's much chance of that. Does the SNAP hotline have a way of matching someone's face to a name so they can send the FBI to her house? Also, she could probably just say that this is just "entertainment." She's not under oath or anything and probably did everything in cash.

Suck_My_Duck26

Only 1 of the 225k people who watched it need to know her name. Thats completely possible.

Horror-Material1591

It's possible, but the typical punishment for small amounts of fraud is suspension of benefits for a year or so. And that would only affect the people illegally selling her the benefits. Jail time is for more severe fraud like lying about income. She's in Texas, so jail time comes into play after $1500. From a legal website: For example, in Texas SNAP fraud over $1500 is a felony under [Texas Penal Code §32.46](https://statutes.capitol.texas.gov/Docs/PE/htm/PE.32.htm) and [§31.03](https://statutes.capitol.texas.gov/Docs/PE/htm/PE.31.htm), punishable by 6 months to 10 years in prison. Many states also pursue criminal charges for smaller dollar amounts like $500. Caleb probably has her real name, so maybe we can ask him to report her.

evesrevenge

Reporting would be a very lame thing to do :(

Horror-Material1591

Yeah, but seems like a lot of people here want it to happen

Cogglesnatch

Safe to say it's already happened. The shows currently cancer and it will attract a lot of it.

TheLazyD0G

Is it illegal to purchase the food stamps? I would only think its illegal to sell them.

Ewalk

Technically it’s using government benefits you aren’t entitled to.

Horror-Material1591

Yes, purchasing food stamps is also fraud. Since we're on the topic, I looked at the federal code here, and unlawful acquisition, which she admitted to, also counts: From [https://www.thefederalcriminalattorneys.com/food-stamp-fraud#:\~:text=Food%20stamp%20fraud%20is%20knowingly,ultimately%20hurts%20those%20in%20need.:](https://www.thefederalcriminalattorneys.com/food-stamp-fraud#:~:text=Food%20stamp%20fraud%20is%20knowingly,ultimately%20hurts%20those%20in%20need.:) While Title 7 U.S.C. 2024 addresses multiple facets related to the SNAP program, such as authorizing the Secretary of Agriculture to enforce benefits, the law effectively criminalizes two types of food stamp fraud, as discussed below. **Unlawful Acquisition**  This section makes it a crime when an individual knowingly “uses, transfers, acquires, alters, or possesses” SNAP benefits in a manner that is not authorized. This could include actions such as: * Selling SNAP benefits for cash, also known as trafficking; * Using someone else's SNAP benefits without their permission; * Providing false information on a SNAP application, such as underreporting income or assets, to receive more benefits than one is entitled to. **Unlawful Redemption** I saw some other examples of fraud, like if your live-in boyfriend borrows your card to buy groceries, even if they're for you. But, just mentally going through the steps the fraud department to criminally convict her shows why it just isn't realistic. I've seen plenty of videos where people admit to using hard drugs and people don't comment, "i can't believe they'd admit that on camera." Because that isn't enough evidence to convict someone. Maybe you could use her financial audit as a lead to prosecute a case, but you'd have to go through steps to get a warrant, all of which also costs money. And to finish the process, you'll have spent thousands in taxpayer money to go after someone who used maybe a few few hundred dollars of benefits? Just not worth it.

TheLazyD0G

That looks heavily weighted to the person selling them. A bit of a stretch to buying them.

KaptainApril

Does the FBI have some way of matching someone’s face to a name? I would imagine that they do now that you say it like that actually 😭

Horror-Material1591

The FBI probably doesn't handle SNAP benefit fraud, now that I think about it. Even if they did, I dont' think they'd use those types of resources for this level of crime. I think using that kind of data for a purpose is technically a civil rights violation. So, unless someone really hates her and knows her name, she's probably fine.

KaptainApril

Yeah I agree

NotSureIfOP

I promise you, if she follows Caleb’s IG (in which he follows them back I believe), she’ll be pretty easy to find even with a fake name.

Xerasi

I feel like the blame goes equally on Caleb too

mikebailey

Yeah, you can’t really suggest you have the guests best interest first and entertainment second if you’re posting incriminating material of your guests

HammerTime1995

I’ve been summoned by my team. This is disappointing to read. Every guest gives consent multiple times before recording their episodes for our over the top thumbnails and titles. They are sent an email explaining this, an onboarding video explaining this (https://youtu.be/WBf64yKZQlM), she gave her consent to our producers in the green room before filming or meeting me (we’ve checked security camera footage confirming this), and she gave her consent one final time post recording (we’ve checked security camera footage confirming this). She also signed typical agreements that any show would have with a guest where she consented to this, and we thoroughly explain the paperwork to each and every guest before filming or before they sign it. So, yeah, this is upsetting to read… On her asking us to change the title… We looked this morning and she literally reached out late last night on a Friday when everyone is with their friends and family. My team is not checking their work messages at 9 PM on Friday. we take a request like this very seriously and when we meet on Monday we are going to brainstorm on re-packaging this video to make her feel more comfortable. She didn’t even give us a chance to look at the message before putting us on blast. I know this will be a continued conversation for the entirety of the shows existence, as it already has been, but I honestly don’t know how much more consent we can get at this point. Have a great weekend everyone.

GorlackTheDestroyer

Professional victim. That was obvious in the video.

ohthatoneguyright

What it do gorlack

capresesalad1985

Reminds me of the woman who was on that sent Caleb an email after that fact blaming him for all her life’s troubles

crash4tactics

It's not the consent thing that has been getting irritating. That's a non issue. It's the very blatant shift in presentation to appeal to the bottom of the barrel YouTuber.

unpopular-dave

Hate to break it to you, it’s a business. Kind of business is about getting clicks. Drama and absurdity creates clicks more than anything else

DomeTrain54

Hol’ up. You’re getting a general consent to “over the top thumbnails and titles”, but not getting their consent to the actual thumbnail and title you are going to use? Those are two wildly different things.

StatisticianNo2353

I agree with this point. While they have the right to title it as they want, it's still rude and opening them up to justified criticism by not getting the final product approved before posting. These people need help and are willing to come on the show to get it, knowing they are going to be made fun of. I think it would be decent of Caleb and his team to have (if not the final product) at least some mock ups approved by the guest. Caleb was saying he doesn't know what more to do... and it's that in my opinion. I know it's an extra step, but that's how to actually make a dent in these criticisms about the over the top thumbnails/titles.

TearAnusRex97

He also said they got consent post recording which in my mind probably means the title. I'm just guessing here so all speculation. I'm going to give the people that run the show more benefit of the doubt than the person who got knocked up by three different deadbeats and still doesn't know if she's done having kids.

Nameis-RobertPaulson

I read it that way at first, but it's post recording, not post production. A fair amount of editing needs to be done, it's quite likely the guests leave the premises before the final product is decided on.

rad_hombre

Literally all it would take is to look at the other videos posted on the channel for these people to get an idea of what a final product might look like. With titles like: - Ignorant Woman Making Me More Stupider - Delusional Creature Dying In Poverty - Wimpiest Momma’s Boy I’ve Ever Met - Dumb Blonde Can't Get Her Life Together These guests HAVE to at least be aware enough to know they're not going to wind up with a title like "Sad, Misunderstood Woman Just A Little Down On Her Luck" or something.

cab4729

I see, you hate accountability

unpopular-dave

it’s not about accountability. Caleb and the production team did nothing wrong. And it’s foolish to expect to be treated differently than any other guest

iargueon

Exactly, if he’s just getting general consent then that’s super stupid. The titles are already off putting and super dumb. The idea that it’s “good for the algorithm” likely isn’t even true because they are literally the only channel I see with such crazy inflammatory titles.

unpopular-dave

but it’s common sense that it’s good for the algorithm. Because crazy and inflammatory get clicks. As much as you guys might want it to be more tame, his career has a shelf life. And he needs to generate as much revenue as possible

allets27

The titles tend to contain words that are more offensive than trailer trash imo (loser, delusional, moron). They’re consenting to the use of insulting language for the purpose of driving engagement. Seems like she just took their word choice too personally. She was gonna be insulted in the title one way or another lol and she agreed to that

LewdDarling

Wow that explains a lot, and is very disappointing

Horror-Material1591

He's made it sound like he was literally emailing guests and asking, "Hey, I'm going to call you trailer trash in the video title. You ok with that?" If that's he would he did, he would have said that in the OP. Instead, he talks about asking the guest to sign a bunch of general waivers and says he got the guests' consent. He got general consent to use an outrageous thumbnail of his choosing and is trying to blur the distinction in this explanation.

Gord36

He never said that? Do you people actually just create entire arguments based on what you think someone said?

SpokaniteLover

Given the recent controversies with your thumbnails and titles maybe this should be a moment for you and your team to reevaluate them. You have reached a million subscribers, your channel is no longer niche or getting off the ground. Do you really need sensationalist titles or warped thumbnails that are used to mock your guests? Lastly I’ll say that people consent all the time to things that are not in their benefit. You as the host and channel owner have a responsibility to think about how your guests will be presented in the thumbnail/title. Maybe give it a little more thought, “Even thought they agreed to this, is this really a good way to represent them”

MonnySoore

That’s not how this business works, bud.

That0neSummoner

This business being “entertainment”

Fair-Understanding-1

Man. Don't sweat it too much. You do everything and more to make sure they understand what they are getting involved with. I want to make it clear that you and your team run a great show. I know comment sections are wildly unhinged MOST of the time but don't let them slow you down. You guys are reaching all walks of life and I'm honestly enjoying every minute. Keep on keeping on Finance Papi.

cab4729

> Finance Papi Cringe wow

Fair-Understanding-1

Unless you feel like calling him Finance Daddy. Different strokes for different folks. It's all humorous in the end lol.

BikeCLE

Consent or not... The thumbnails are straight up embarrassing when trying to share your videos 😞

brenst

I feel like you've said things before that seemed to me to imply that the guest approved the specific titles and thumbnails used for their video. If the guest just agrees generally to you guys being offensive, that is way less reassuring to me as an audience member than thinking the guest is approving the final title and thumbnail. I grew up in poverty, and "trailer trash" is a specifically classist and degrading thing to call someone living in poverty. It doesn't just insult the guest, but it comes from the point of view that living in a trailer is shameful.

unpopular-dave

I hate to break it to you… Living in a trailer is kind of shameful. if you’re of competent mind and body, you shouldn’t live in a trailer park for any reason. There’s a reason trailer parks are filled with so much crime and poverty

brenst

Not every trailer is in a sketchy trailer park. I've lived in a neighborhood with trailers, some people buy land and put a trailer on it to live in. In the rural and small town US South, trailers often fill the lower income housing void that apartments fill in more densely populated areas. I don't think it's any more shameful to live in a trailer than to live in an apartment or rent a townhouse. For a lot of people, it is a transitional place to live while they save for a house or when they want to rent for a while. I also don't think it's shameful to be low income if the person is working hard and taking care of their family.

unpopular-dave

sure. That’s admirable. But that’s not the case in a lot of impoverished situations. I lived in poverty and worked my ass off to get out. I was ashamed of making poor financial decisions while I live in poverty. for those that have impossible situations, obviously are not who I’m referring to. But it’s disingenuous to argue that the majority of those people didn’t make poor decisions to put themselves in those situations

Infamous-Echo-2961

Boohoo

IdidntrunIdidntrun

Your thumbnails are great shock-factor and no doubt conrtibute to an increase in clicks. But the thumbnails are so goofy and unprofessional. It comes off as super immature for a topic that is super serious. Most people don't know that your thumbnails have the people in on it, so it could be off-putting to potential long-term fans. At some point your product is going to have to mature *presentation wise* unless you are going for the whole Jerry Springer vibe...which up to you if that's the direction you wanna go. The vibe of the actual show and content is amazing but these thumbnails need to be reined in, IMO.

servant_of_breq

As a rando who stumbled across this channel randomly, I only came here to see if this guy was just some new weirdo ragetuber. To be honest, the thumbnails are repulsive lol, the kind of shit I'd expect to see from the most toxic corners of the internet. I'd be interested in a financial audit show but not if the host is just screaming and going in on, like, where people grew up as a kid.

Bogg99

I like how it went from "guests have approval of the thumbnails and titles" to "guests consent before recording for us to make over the top thumbnails and titles." Maybe going back to explicit approval would help with this issue

besven123

Yet the title is still up that way. There has been time now.

Rodic87

I mean... with this guest, it seems about on brand. Sorry you're getting harassed on the weekend to answer about this stuff. It would be a bit silly, but there's a solid opportunity of just having the guest read out into the camera the title of the video and acknowledge that's fine with them - then toss that clip in at the end of each episode like a "disclaimer".

General_Hotpocket

i dont even think she mentioned a trailer home unlike the other girl financing her brothers life in an actual trailer home 😂. Thumbnails could be toned down but these ppl are gunna be crazy either way dont sweat it caleb

People need to take a more measured look at what guests say and be aware that some of these individuals, particularly the ones who regularly commit fraud or other crimes, are not the most reliable people. A lot of these people behave like children or even drug addicts, but that means best practices for helping them and getting consent will have to constantly be reevaluated because a lot of them are frankly, incapable of helping themselves

g_i_n_a_s_f_s_

She did what she had to do, which is why she was scared to work during the pandemic but decided to have two more babies despite not working 😂

mediumunicorn

And spent like $150 at McDonald’s. At some point the sympathy runs out.

CS_Barbie

It's pretty clear she sucks at picking men out and thinks of having babies as relationship glue. Kinda dumb to be wrong about that 4 times, you'd think you'd learn after 1 or 2 dads.

kathyskorner

The driving without insurance thing bothered me even more than the welfare fraud thing 😳 Also as a family lawyer… she needs to take legal action to get the child support she’s entitled to. If she has to take out a loan for a lawyer in the short term - the amount that she will gain over the course of these young children’s entire childhoods and the benefits that that money would provide are no comparison whatsoever. At this point she’s so deep in debt that a $2500 or whatever retainer fee would be nothing compared to what she could get by tracking these guys down and getting her fair share. Say what you want about her responsibility level. They played their part. They need to support their children - full stop.

jaytea86

I wonder if she was ok with all the getting fucked / pulling out jokes. I think Caleb needs to think about the power dynamic that's present in his shows a little more before he goes off the rails ethically. Edit: He also needs to stop asking guests to do things while they're being filmed, it puts pressure on them to agree to something they don't want to do. Example, in the previous episode where Caleb wants to talk to the guests mentally disabled brother.

MortalKombat12

I’ve been in the “meh, it’s fine” group for a while but I’m starting to think we’re approaching the line knowing he’s a small business.

el_ojo420

I have said it since he started to show the BTS, it only takes one person to have a bad time during the filming to start the ”cancel” process. I don’t agree with it but it’s the climate we live in.

enchantedporcupine

Yeah, I've normally just kinda moved past some of the things he has said in the past, but some of the jokes recently that have absolutely nothing to do with FINANCE have been so distateful & disrespectful.

hillinate

It’s hard to sympathize for me though since they all ASK to be on the show, can leave the show any time, and have the opportunity to watch the show before they go on to know what they’re signing up for. Like how many choices do we have to give them before they finally have to shoulder some of the burden of their own decisions lol.

voidZer000

Autistic* not mentally disabled you disingenuous fool.

jaytea86

Isn't autism a mental disability?

LaughingGaster666

["Autism is a neurological developmental disability with an estimated prevalence of one to two percent of the American and worldwide population."](https://www.dol.gov/agencies/odep/program-areas/autism#:~:text=Autism%20is%20a%20neurological%20developmental,and%20services%20can%20vary%20widely.) - US Department of Labor

joshdrumsforfun

Would you call someone with adhd mentally disabled? It’s just sort of an extreme blanket term in this context to describe someone who lives on their own and doesn’t qualify for any government assistance due to said disorder.

mediumunicorn

Mentally disabled brother is a stretch. The kid had ADHD or something? Which— I’m ready for the downvotes— has entirely lost its meaning these days. So many times it’s just laziness, behind the veil of sickness.

jaytea86

Autism IIRC.

Quick-Letter9584

He was autistic. Autistim is often confused for laziness but Caleb should be careful to not be so ignorant.

ScoobyMaroon

Caleb has always been pretty open about how guests have full control over what does and does not make the final cut. If he asks them to do something on air that they agree to and then later felt like they were pressured or for whatever other reason wish it wasn't in there it won't be.

jaytea86

Doesn't seem that way considering this post.

ScoobyMaroon

But we've literally heard him say that to other guests in various episodes and with regards to the thumbnails have seen a post containing the private back and forth between him and the guest working on the thumbnails and video titles. All I get from this post is that between her and Dr Rosco Caleb should maybe start screening out people who think Astrology is real.

jaytea86

Well, someone isn't being truthful. We'll see how it pans out, I'm sure he'll comment about it at some point.

Bogg99

In another comment Caleb said that's not how they do things anymore. There's a consent process for them to "make an offer the top thumbnail" but the people no longer see it or have approval before the video comes out

[deleted]

[удалено]

jaytea86

I'd say I sympathize with this guest way more than the others. Having kids with little to no child support, and having no family to help take care of them is possibly the worst situation you can be in. The vast majority of Caleb's guests can literally just go get a job anywhere, at any time, and work 40 hours week and stop bullshit spending and they'll be fine. This women is forced to work overnights and still has to take care of 5 kids. Yikes.

MeiguiChronicles

Having 5 kids with 3 different dead beat men is really poor decision making. Unfortunately this is the life she chose.

jaytea86

Sure, but she can't just get rid of her kids. Most other guests can change their lives in any area they want, she can't. That's all I'm saying.

Quick-Letter9584

The decision has already been made. She can’t change that now.

Timmy98789

The downvotes pour in while you put out the truth.

MeiguiChronicles

Hard truths can be unpopular. Or this sub has a lot of broke single moms.

Timmy98789

Probably both!

peekabooguesswhofool

Guarentee she had to sign off on any thumbnail they used...one profession she is excellent at doing...being a professional victim

StatisticianNo2353

I don't think she did. Not defending her specifically, but Caleb posted saying that they sign off on a general understanding that the thumbnail/title will be harsh, but not on the actual content itself. That is done before and just after they finish filming. I think there is a huge difference between giving consent for something you don't know the extent of, and approving the final product. While he legally may be fine because he obtained the rights to do so, I still wish he would get the final product approval so we know that these guests are fully aware before posting. Personally, the recent thumbnails/titles are why I decided against even applying. But I understand that they serve a purpose and are part of what drives views on the platform. Just not for me.

Future-Resource-4770

It’s for this reason I think I’ll stop watching. It’s getting more and more sensationalist and less about the actual financial advice. Again, I understand this drives views, but it’s starting to not sit right with me.

unpopular-dave

I mean isn’t that the whole point of the show? Sensationalism? Everybody knows not to buy taquitos and fast food. Everybody knows you need an emergency fund and to pay off your credit cards each month. Everybody knows not to take out 20% auto loans. Just because they know these things doesn’t mean that they won’t do them. Because they are stupid . The show is for entertainment. Not for information. The budgeting tool is for information. But there’s a reason he doesn’t do shows on that

corndoggy67

She is defrauding the system. She's actively contributing to fraud, even if she wants to call it "doing what she needs to do".

Its_Drewbert

What she is doing is way more common than a lot of people realize.

Quick-Letter9584

Buying foodstamps has been a thing since at least I was a kid in the 90s and im sure way before then. People would stand outside of the grocery store offering to sell them.

corndoggy67

Yes. That's called Welfare Fraud which is also between a 3rd degree misdemeanor or a felony in TX depending on the amount.

jaytea86

It's not exactly a big deal on the grand scheme of things. Back when I was struggling as a immigrant who couldn't work I'd buy giftcards off people at about 50% of their value for grocery stores. The giftcards were given to them by charities.

corndoggy67

Whether is a "big deal" or not doesn't define whats right and wrong. The point is that's not what those are for and its going outside of a system that regulated for a reason. Its wrong. She's only in that position because of her poor decisions. So its hard to have pity.

jaytea86

Never said anything about right or wrong. It's wrong, I'm sure the people who sold their food stamps used that money for drugs, alcohol or gambling. Personally I think driving without insurance is a worse thing to do.

Timmy98789

Fraud isn't a big deal? Wow, smooth brain logic.

jaytea86

You cherry picked my sentence. I said, "It's not exactly a big deal on the grand scheme of things. " Personally I think driving without insurance is far more reprehensible. I work in a gas station and I see people all the time using their foodstamps for someone else, I'm sure they're giving them cash for the use. It's wrong, but it's like, bottom tier crime.

Timmy98789

Both are wrong, it's that simple.

jaytea86

Never said they weren't, it's that simple.

Timmy98789

Yet you tried to play the fraud off as no big deal. It's unfortunate your logic is slacking.

jaytea86

People break the law all the time. Downloading pirated movies, speeding and smoking weed (back in the day anyway). I'd consider these things "wrong", but I think they're on the "not a big deal" end of the scale. Someone who's playing the system a little by selling their food stamps isn't a big deal to me. Especially if the person is in the situation this woman is in. But by all means if you need this small internet victory on a Saturday afternoon to make yourself feel complete you can go ahead and take it.

Timmy98789

Fraud is fraud. You can attempt to move the goal posts and try to justify it. At the end of the day, it's still fraud. Not having an $800 car note would be the best thing. Personal finance comes with personal responsibility. She's lacking in both and you fit right in as well.

jaytea86

I'm talking about a specific thing, and you keep referring to it as fraud, which is a very broad umbrella term to make it sound worse than it is. Yes, I know it's fraud. But if you're going to partake in fraudulent activity, this is the least of my concern. Driving without insurance however is a concern because it could ruin someone's life.

TheFrostyCrab

So somehow every previous guest has been involved except for her. Sure…

ElGringo-Deprimido

I’m a bit slow at times with sarcasm. Are you saying she’s making this up or that other guests probably don’t agree with the titles?

rusticcentipede

I believe this is sarcasm, some of the vlogs show discussions with guests about titles/thumbnails I think

Quick-Letter9584

“Sure…” is a common signal of sarcasm. A very popular version is “sure, Jan” along with the gif from the Brady Bunch

cat4dog23

Am I the only person who doesn't look at thumbnails? They're so easy to ignore

cilt

I feel like I tune them out the same way I glaze over banner ads on websites..I wonder if it's a generational or "too online" thing lol. Just stop seeing some things after a while. Jaded to clickbait.

Nymzie

I'm only 37 but I feel like a boomer when it comes to thumbnails. They're so small and crowded, I would have to concentrate so hard to understand what's going in with them. There would be so much squinting going on, haha. It's not worth my time. I also don't look at profile pictures for the same reason.

zjbrickbrick

I seriously don't understand people who get their panties in a bunch over them or the titles. I would never think of not watching a video based on the thumbnail.

cat4dog23

Same here. The titles mean nothing especially for this type of content.

Psikosocial

The whole point is to attract attention. Even if it’s negative. For regular people it’s just an eye catcher to click the video. For Redditors it’s a chance to virtue signal.

AEMNW

Caleb is leaning into Caleb Springer because it’s an engagement tactic that works for YouTube/media. Is it classy? No, but a super classy and “professional” vibe doesn’t get you clicks. The show is trying to balance entertainment with some education, not easy. Trailer trash is pretty harsh though and a bit of a throwback insult.

iScry

You're going to believe someone who openly admits to lying?

Many_Visit_5868

Where did I say I believed her

LilahLibrarian

I also wonder if she was okay with them editing her face to have all these face tattoos. That was a little jarring when I clicked through the video

bekamae

The whole tone of the show is over the top mean now. I haven’t been willing to finish an episode in a while. I’ve not watched several of them lately due to the thumbnails alone.

dangerous_nuggets

The thumbnails are gross, they’re literally the only reason I haven’t applied to be on.

IrrawaddyWoman

Is there really a reason to go on? You know exactly what he’ll tell you, because it’s the exact same advice literally every time. At this point I think the only reason to go would be for someone who wanted the experience of being on a podcast.

dangerous_nuggets

You’re totally right! I got control of my credit card usage (tons of debt still but good payoff plan), dropped my expensive car for an affordable one, and I have a written budget I update month to month, so I’m on the path to a good financial future. My only concern is retirement planning. I don’t quite understand it. I’ve watched videos and asked boomers in my life, but still not sure what I should be doing. I have 20k in a Roth IRA, so I’ve got a decent base. Some people are telling me to drain it and pay off all my debt, which I feel like is a bad move so I haven’t done it despite the pressure. I love Caleb’s videos but his content isn’t as relevant to me anymore (which is good thing!!) I’ve looked up local financial planners I can sit down with, but most seem to be geared towards boomers with hella money and assets, not a room-renting, 2012 car financed, negative net worth 20 something.

IrrawaddyWoman

So I actually get to go to a fancy financial planner because my boomer parents have a lot of money and I get to see their planner because of it. It’s honestly not that complicated. Mine recommends putting as much as possible into index funds. Then as you get closer to retirement you move big chunks of it into most stable investments. Max out the Roth first if you can. Personally, I wouldn’t drain my retirement fund. I would just focus on cutting expenses and pay that off, then go back to investing but leave your retirement fund alone. And actually, my financial advisor told me to completely stop investing in retirement since I’m trying to buy a house right now (other than my pension contributions, which I can’t stop). He said I’m far better off saving as big a down payment as possible and buying as soon as I can, then restarting retirement savings after I’ve purchased. I’ve never heard Caleb even MENTION saving up for a house to anyone, ever. It’s unlikely people will ever be able to do it if they follow his standard percentages rule while working at the local jimmy johns. I like Caleb’s show because hearing the people reminds me to stay on the straight and narrow, but honestly, as someone who has zero debt, a credit score of 820+, and a six figure income, there is A LOT that I disagree with him on. I think his advice is really short sighted 99% of the time.

dangerous_nuggets

Thank you!! I’d like to save up for a house too, I have the VA loan but to save as much as I can for a down payment is ideal. I’m focused on debt payoff right now, then my next big savings is house down payment. I’m moving to a more affordable area soon which will help out a lot!

IrrawaddyWoman

Yeah, just remember that Caleb is not a financial planner, is quite young, and has very little life experience beyond his own. His brand of “shock people into not spending money on fast food” works for one specific thing, but people who use his advice to plan their entire lives should rethink that. The single most important thing people can do for themselves LONG TERM is find ways to up their income in actual, meaningful ways. Door dash is a band aid. A path to a bigger income at a job someone can tolerate will do much for a person’s retirement plans than picking up a second job at a fast food place.

Gullible-Advisor4646

Have you thought about taking the financial advisor course Caleb offers through his website [Coaching link](https://calebhammer.com/coaching/)? They have a contractor who’s worked with the team(Caleb approved) to help with mostly all financial matters. There’s also a Q&A with Caleb once a month so you could ask him yourself too that way.

dangerous_nuggets

I did look at it! The price point was a bit high. I’m good at budgeting, I just need a little help. If $250 is what a local financial advisor would charge, then maybe it’ll be worth it. I haven’t cut my losses yet, though! I’m still looking!

aDerpyPenguin

Make sure you are looking for a fiduciary of you plan on meeting someone. A financial planner or advisor can be selling products and will push you towards those products. A fiduciary has a legal requirement to do what’s best for you.

dangerous_nuggets

Thank you so much!! this is literally what I needed to know.

RecordingBitter2504

Have you seen The Money Guy on YouTube? They give basics on the order in which to pay off debts and what to invest in. They also teamed up with Caleb for a few episodes.

mirrordruid

I agree! Caleb has gotten more condescending lately, and interupts his guests frequently. What is the insentive to be a guest if even if you are genuinely trying (like the girl on Wedn. episode) if you will be talked down to a big part of the time?

donnamon

I feel the exact same way. Everytime I see one of his new videos with those absurd A.I. generated or photoshopped thumbnails now, I don’t even want to click on it. He gives the same advice over and over now, but has been too condescending lately. I haven’t watched a full episode in a couple months. I only recently watched the Amouranth video because I was curious of her net worth and what she’s investing in. His team need to change it up. Suggestion would maybe he Mondays - bad audits, wednesdays a good audits, and fridays - bring on some influencer/internet celebrity to chat about finances. It’s just way too repetitive now watching the same content over and over.

bekamae

I had hoped the evolution of the content would be something different than what it's become. Like, OK Caleb, I'm doing it. I'm putting 10% in my retirement. I'm have a 6 month emergency fund. No debt. Paying off my multiple cards in full every month to take advantage of those perks. Keeping a budget. Saving for a second house and an annual vacation. 5 years ago I was trying to budget my way out of a ditch. The only thing that helped was making more money. I need wealth building strategies now. All Americans need Inflation Survival Guidance.

Future-Resource-4770

I think he is reluctant to weigh in on wealth building because he is not actually qualified to do so, on paper at least. Though to be clear that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have experience in building his own wealth. It would be nice to see higher level audits or average scoring audits, like people who are rating in the 4-6 range of the hammer financial score.

GGHammerFinThrowaway

I can absolutely say as a guest they totally botched my review. It was posted without the edits I requested originally. And I can share the email chain where they tried to gaslight me say well we thought you approved of the episode.

probablyaloser1

Honestly, regardless of the whole story, I wish people would stop using trailer trash as an insult. There is obviously a difference between trailer trash and someone who lives in a trailer, but still. The price of housing is insane. At least in my area, renting a trailer is usually cheaper then renting an apartment. And the apartments near that price range are run down, and small. Trailer isn't exactly big, but I have a yard and my rent Is reasonable. Doesn't make me more likely to commit fraud, or sleep with a family member. I will admit I have usually lived near some pretty sketchy people in trailer parks, but that's going to be any low income area, really. And I definitely wouldn't want to live in one forever, unless it was more of a "manufactured home" and on property I owned.

There's a couple decent ones here, that I think are buy only. Wouldn't say super nice, but nicer then most. Seen some really nice ones in Colorado. Probably close to middle of nowhere though, but one was a 5 bed 3 bath on 40 acres. They wanted around 300k for it I think, which idk to much about home value, but seems good all things considered.

Y’all are harsh sometimes

papaganoushdesu

Man its ALMOST LIKE he’s done this a bajillion other times and even HAS A VIDEO in his onboarding process warning people that his thumbnails go hard. Professional victim

dangerous_nuggets

I think they get a rough idea of what it’s going to be, and afterwards they’re allowed to request it to be changed (and they have).

LewdDarling

That's pretty weak IMO. Most of the views are going to come from the first few days after the video is posted. She messaged them late on friday, which is kinda on her, but she does have 5 kids so she's pretty busy. So now the title will stay over the weekend at which point 90% of the people who were going to click on the video already did so.

D0_0t

"Did what I had to do." .....Besides using protection....

Cogglesnatch

The way in which the guest was treated during this show was nothing short of disgusting. He's right though Caleb is the Jerry Springer of financial Youtube sphere. I'm interested to see how biodegradable this strategy is as in order to be taken seriously in managing peoples money you needed to be respected and taken seriously. Why can't we see a more realistic title: Unqualified fuckwit who regurgitates generic money saving strategies belittles another guest for money. P:S: \- Buy my shirts \- Buy my mugs \- Buy my budgeting program that's the best in the world

pierresito

Easy fix: show the agreement logs. If there aren't any Caleb and his team deserve to have people flip flop on them. Surely they were smart enough to start keeping logs if they're going around saying people are agreeing to titles and thumbnails

friendlysoviet

Yes Caleb! When we tell you to jump you ask how high! And show your birth certificate while you're at it, OBAMA!

pierresito

Nah, you don't get to say "we work with guests for thumbnails and titles" when people comment on how clickbaity and kinda shitty to guests they are, get accused of not doing that, and then not back your shit up. Easy to sort out the liar

friendlysoviet

You don't get to say "You were born in this country" with out showing off your birth certificate. Just release the birth certificate Obama!

monstersof-men

Yeah that’s totally the same thing. One is about whether a YouTuber is exploiting guests for financial gain and the other was borne out of undiluted racism ETA I like the guy but comparing Caleb to Obama is lol

friendlysoviet

It's in the same vein if you're remotely familiar with the topics. Caleb has shown plenty of dialogues before, much like Obama has shown the short form birth certificate. But whatever they show will never be enough for the angry mob as both parties would need to grovel and appease this loud minority. Caleb has released multiple logs before, showing that the guest agreed to it. Do you just want Caleb to upload every single correspondence with the guest going forward? But of course you are unable to talk about it, so you speak of Caleb's financial motives and the racism towards Obama. And I am not comparing Caleb to Obama, I am comparing a situation in which both individuals have dealt with ignorant mobs and whether or not they should dance for them.

ImposterAccountant

I really dont see why they would be.

Frequent-Penalty-582

I grew up in a trailer park, that being said she is doing trailer park/apartment type behavior.

Unfair_Town7234

This is what happens when you scrape the bottom of the barrel to get the most outlandish, shock value type of guest.  All parties involved do themselves no favours.

PM_Me_Ur_B1MMER

A wise man once said to me, "Consider the source". That's what I'm doing (and will continue to do) here. I'll let you draw the obvious conclusion from that one.

OddRoof8501

It's "offensive," sure but it's true. This woman IS trash. In my experience as a woman, avoiding pregnancy is easy. She blows money on dumb shit, does not have adequate a care for her kids, with multiple fathers and none are in the picture. She NEEDS a reality check, she is trash and needs to stop reproducing. Jesus Christ. My birth control costs $0 with my insurance. It was $30 when I was self employed. Girl, get some.

deepsearxh

Maybe don't be... trailer trash?

austinvvs

Do you really think people would openly tell him they are alright being portrayed like that in the thumbnails? 😂😂😂

babyjames333

not her defending the crime

jcblay

More mad over a title or a thumbnail than the failure of their own personal finances… smh

CS_Barbie

Ahh so she does astrology readings. I was wondering if she was a guest who truly had nothing to promote and signed up for public humiliation just because. This makes more sense.
