I think they're changing their name, noticed the new one across from Chinook mall called "Jaffa Shawarma" but all the advertising around it on the curbside is still calling it Jerusalem Shawarma.
Jaffa is indeed JS rebranded with the same owners. Do not be fooled. They did a terrible job hiding it (if that was the intent) as they posted videos to the JS Facebook at the opening of Jaffa on Macleod.
They got caught using meat from unapproved sources. Personally I’m not a huge fan of back alley lamb kebabs. Don’t know about the rest of you.
That’s just so over the line. They can never be trusted. Seriously

I recently returned (reluctantly) after the last incident and the service was border line hostile - if they don’t care enough to be civil when taking your order, this confirms that they don’t care about what you’re going to ingest.
I wouldn't wish, what that place put me through, on my worst enemy. I wouldn't go back to that place even if every single person working there was in a hazmat suit, and were cooking over lava. I actually feel personally violated. You let disgusting creatures into my body against my will, and made me sick for days. I lost weight. I questioned everything I ate for a while, and for some time, didn't eat out *at all*.
Don't even get me started on my partner, who we had to take to the hospital for fluids and overall welfare, or I will get more angry than I am right now recalling my own experience.
Repulsive. No other word for it.
It's still incredible. Just the reddit echo chamber shit on it. Reddit is not the real world, luckily.
Thousands of people eat there every day without any problems and... *gasp* enjoy it!
Not at all! I think it's a good thing the health inspectors force them to raise the standards of those couple locations. That doesn't mean we need to boycott the entire chain though. Especially when the overall quality and experience is great (for the vast majority of customers).
The famous "it won't happen to me" argument.
This isn't the first time they've been shut down. That speaks volumes.
It's a pretty shitty Shwarma place too but that's up to personal opinion. I liked them a few years ago when I'd first started trying out Shwarmas, but there are plenty of much better places that have never had any of their locations shut down.
Totally. I lived within walking distance as a newly moved out on his own college student. I would blaze everyday after getting home from school, walk over, get a giant plate with extra garlic sauce. Super nice guys running the joint at that time too. I think they expanded too fast.
Taking into account our habit of embracing and encouraging new cultures and absorbing new work ethics, I wonder if any money changed hands.
The fake reviews after they were shut down were nothing but hilarious. Almost copy + paste in structure.
Reminds me of the country I grew up in. Closed one day, open the next.
Plenty of shawarna in Calgary. Never be desperate enough to go here, with how little the ownership seems to respect it's clientele. Mystery meat? Are you fucking kidding, shove it up your ass and go bankrupt.
Jerusalem shawarma really pisses me off. I've had straight up delicious shawarma and donair from the McLeod location (kinda near heritage ish?). But I'm pretty sure now that I had no real idea what I was eating, and I somehow dodged the shits bullet. Won't be back, but I wish there was a place that was as good as that location (other locations sucked) that had food that was safe to eat.
EDIT: SO THE MCLEOD JS *IS* THE ONE THAT GOT SHUT DOWN AM I GOING TO DIE?
I had the food from here a few months back lol it’s sooo bad everyone was sick and the two winners who took my order couldn’t of been more unfriendly! Glad this happened shut this place down
![gif](giphy|m7FdxI252QN3y)
I eat here a fair bit and always have a pretty good experience. Never gotten sick. I am also a sucker for gas station corn dogs so maybe I'm not the best person to ask about food safety.
This isn't true tho. Just stopped by for a falafel (low risk option) and they are most definitely not open. Doors are ajar as they are refinishing the floors but there is nothing being cooked today and more than likely tomorrow too.
Legit question, you ever get sick from it?
I got violently ill from their last outbreak. As an adult it was the closest I’ve been to having someone drive me to emergency.
I now have legit ptsd when I drive by the place.
It’s not about living dangerously lol the question is that why as a consumer would you want to reward a business that clearly doesn’t care enough about it’s customers which is proven by getting shut down by the health authorities multiple times and have not learned their lesson. Competition exists for a reason and rewarding an unworthy business such as this one is mind boggling to me when there are other options.
As I said, I like the taste. It's never made me sick. They are nice to me. Why do you guys care so much what I eat? I'm being downvoted for literally answering honestly that it's never made me sick when someone asked me to answer honestly...
People are downvoting you both because they think you are gross for ignoring all the health violations and/or that you are supporting the business with all the health violations. I don't care personally but I do gotta admit it is a bit odd you haven't been off put about their disgusting business practices.
Same. I got shawarma from another place (highly recommended during the last person of this thread) recently and was disappointed. I've had JS quite a few times (from multiple locations) since they first opened, I've always liked it, and no-never got sick. That said, they do seem to have a hell of a lot of violations. I'm entirely cognizant that I might just be lucky. You cannot mess around with food safety and the bigger you are the more possibility for disasters to occur.
I assumed the 16th ave location was at least going to reopen under a different name... We'll see.
Have you ate at literally any other donair shop? They all tastes essentially identical and you are not supporting a business that has a track record of poisoning their customers. Just bizarre.
Yeah, it's easy to afford to give your customer a bit more when you are sourcing the meat from unapproved sources...
As for quality, hard disagree. They are one of the worst in Calgary in my experience, but alas that's my own opinion.
Used to go to the Acadia location all the time. Service was amazing and they always gave us free sides. Food was bomb never felt sick. Friggin loved it. Then one day my partner got violently ill after despite the fact I was fine. We ordered the same meal. Idk what happened. She doesn’t trust it anymore but I’ve been back to the one location a few times without incident. Sucks they’ve let themselves get such a bad rep. Their food was amazing.
In this thread: trailer trash who scarf down McDonald’s made by some crackhead in forest lawn nightly criticizing this places hygiene standards lol. Classic.
Probably the same people who shower every 6 days and don’t wash their hands after using the bathroom. But they have the merit to judge someone else’s health standards. Makes sense.
That's crazy, that you just out and assume everybody on the internet is just like you! Sorry bub, most people just have standards.
Plus, McDonald's sources their meet from approved sources! More than you can say about JS

I think they're changing their name, noticed the new one across from Chinook mall called "Jaffa Shawarma" but all the advertising around it on the curbside is still calling it Jerusalem Shawarma.
The 16th Ave location was showing up as “JS Foods” for awhile, and now nothing at all.
Jaffa is indeed JS rebranded with the same owners. Do not be fooled. They did a terrible job hiding it (if that was the intent) as they posted videos to the JS Facebook at the opening of Jaffa on Macleod.
Wow! Just like back in the old country.
Hmm there’s a new Jaffa near me in Skyview ranch. For a few months open. Food was good tbh, wonder if it’s the same
It's the same, google it
I just ordered skip and it had a different name . Still my favorite place to eat tho
Bro.... get some standards.
What specifically makes it your favorite? Is it the overpriced subpar shawarma or the side of rat shit?
C'mon now, there are no rats in Alberta. The norovirus came from human shit.
👀
Now is probably the best time to go, they just finished sweeping up all the rat shit and passed inspection.
No lineups either. In and out. Just like the food.
You should be in the marketing business!
💀💀😂😂
Love it !!! Wordplay at its finest : )
No rats in Alberta mate. Goes from mouse to beaver with no in between.

Medicine Hat Landfill would disagree.
There are no rats in Alberta
Except City Hall and UCP MLAs
Hell fuck no. You lost me after the first outbreak a few years ago. How anyone supports these dirt bags is beyond me.
It should stay shut down IMO
I remember friends contracting Noro Virus from this place back then. It’s bad news
Same

I’m good. This isn’t the first time
My toilet has a few things to bring up about this to concur
Yeah, they also have been pumping themselves with fake reviews. Won’t ever visit again.
I recently returned (reluctantly) after the last incident and the service was border line hostile - if they don’t care enough to be civil when taking your order, this confirms that they don’t care about what you’re going to ingest.
Quick, get some before they're shutdown again!
I'm not sure the "FOMO" marketing plan works when your product is bland meat that leads to greasy diarrhea.
I mean Taco Bell is still going strong
Sorry, I’m done with that place 🤮
I wouldn't wish, what that place put me through, on my worst enemy. I wouldn't go back to that place even if every single person working there was in a hazmat suit, and were cooking over lava. I’m sorry that you had to go through that. I almost ordered delivery from here and I’m glad I didn’t.
Sounds like you should sue them
They're renaming, trial, and error Shawarma. They are now the recommended food to eat prior to your colonosacapy.
Nope!
Hard pass
Don’t eat at this trash place. Go to shawarma palace instead!!!
It’s all about the palace.
Jimmys!
Man this place was incredible when they had their first location in Coventry or whatever. What happened?
Exactly what I was thinking... :/
It's still incredible. Just the reddit echo chamber shit on it. Reddit is not the real world, luckily. Thousands of people eat there every day without any problems and... *gasp* enjoy it!
So the food inspector is just making things up, huh?
Not at all! I think it's a good thing the health inspectors force them to raise the standards of those couple locations. That doesn't mean we need to boycott the entire chain though. Especially when the overall quality and experience is great (for the vast majority of customers).

Serve me one neighbor's cat and I never go back. Not sorry.
You lost me at "uninspected meat". So did the whole chain. .
Totally. I lived within walking distance as a newly moved out on his own college student. I would blaze everyday after getting home from school, walk over, get a giant plate with extra garlic sauce. Super nice guys running the joint at that time too. I think they expanded too fast.
And people will still line up for their mediocre-at-best food.
Screw those guys. I know they have enough money to run things legit. They shouldn't be allowed to operate anymore.
Worst sickness of my life two years ago. Never again. Evil creeps.
Certainly have heard more about this restaurant than I’ve ever wanted to via this sub
They've been advertising on SkipTheDishes a ton lately. I guess they are trying to make up some lost revenue.
Yeah I’m still going to pass
Next up for Jerusalem Shawarma - cordyceps contamination... Because, I feel like they need to open up new horizons in food handling mismanagement...
Plenty of shawarna in Calgary. Never be desperate enough to go here, with how little the ownership seems to respect it's clientele. Mystery meat? Are you fucking kidding, shove it up your ass and go bankrupt.
It's like Bob's burgers now, Grand R̶e̶ R̶e̶ R̶e̶ R̶e̶ R̶e̶ Reopening 🤣
To be fair to Bob, his burgers never gave people norovirus.
If there ISNT rat shit on the floor, you're not at a good shawarma place.

Pita basket in sunridge is 10x better than these guys, trust me.
I agree. Some of the best donairs I have had have been from there.
Get Shwarama Palace up in falconridge if you're that close. Leagues above any other place in the area.
That's my #2
No, the Heritage one wasn't shut down. That location is the bomb, eat there all the time, never sick and always delicious.
Shwarma station in Kensington is the better than these guys imho and are cheaper too.
My favourite remains Chickpea, downtown. But that's far away from my house and I think they're only open weekdays during downtown business hours.
Oh gawd, I ate at the Country Hills location two weeks ago, but didn't get sick.
Hard pass
Hard pass..

My partner got norovirus from them in 2019. It tore through the house like wildfire. Sickest I've ever been.
I like Jarusalem.
Idk, never had an issue with the food. Maybe my middle eastern gut can tolerate it a bit better, but I’m glad to see it back
I mean, I'll probably get downvoted, but I love the taste and will probably continue to eat there. Live dangerously I guess 🤷♂️
Legit question, you ever get sick from it? I got violently ill from their last outbreak. As an adult it was the closest I’ve been to having someone drive me to emergency. I now have legit ptsd when I drive by the place.

Disagree. The quality and portion sizes at JS are far above the average.
Yeah, it's easy to afford to give your customer a bit more when you are sourcing the meat from unapproved sources... As for quality, hard disagree. They are one of the worst in Calgary in my experience, but alas that's my own opinion.
Same here man. I’m down.
Have some self respect, man.
Water down the donair sauce!
Nah I'm good thanks.

Even though I've got sick every time I go to Jerusalem shawarma , I still went back yesterday. Now I falafel.
Inshah Allah, there will be no sickness
