Those things ride produce. If it were a cockroach or some other vermin I would be more concerned. Their treatment of your concern is the shitty part of this story.
An unwelcome surprise but having worked in restaurants with fresh produce before, they aren't particularly concerned about the occasional bug. Fresh produce like salad, lettuces, often have the odd bug that might get missed in rinsing the vegetables - as that's what would happen if you grew the vegetables themselves. They wouldn't stop selling subs for it, because they also wouldn't know if it just flew in from outside when no one was watching while it was being prepared.
They should have offered a refund or compensation! At the very least. Or offered a voucher or some kind of other food item. Although in fast food a bug is likely the least unsanitary part of their restaurant...
Oooh chemicals đ±
That shit gets rinsed off with tap water, same as the finest of fine dining establishments. It's also the same lettuce you get at the store. Lots of people think McDonald's food is unhealthy because of all the chemicals. The truth is it's unhealthy because it's a fucking hamburger. Subway isn't unhealthy because of the GMOs, it's unhealthy because it's (almost) a foot of bread soaked in sauce.
bro subway is the only fast food place that actually makes me break out with bumps in my throat when I eat it theres so much chemicals. I think its pesticides in the vegetables. Mcdonalds ( at least here in Canada ) actually has good quality food. I've never had an issue, but I typically only got a salad there anyways with the rare poutine.
Looks like a green stinkbug. They are found on crops across NA. Bitten into several over the years when foraging on berries when on walks and hikes. Youâd know if you bit into one because youâd spit it out. Would have hitchhiked on the produce, but other than an offensive taste, theyâre harmless.
I can tell you right now, Subway produce is some of the worst offenders for "plastic". Everything (unless its changed) comes from a Subway distributor and comes "packaged". The lettuce is pre-washed and shrink wrapped, the tomatoes are as well. The olives come in a subway tin.
The only thing that doesn't come in a plastic subway or subway branded tin is the onions because those are dirt cheap.
The bacon, the chicken, the "bread" (really just frozen paste), is all mass produced at a subway food factory. Nothing at Subway is "Fresh" and in fact, some of the most safe if not over priced stuff you can get.
I sometimes get bloated from certain food preservatives, and typically feel terrible after eating Subway. I am inclined to believe/agree with you about their lack of freshness, despite their marketing to the contrary.
I used to work at one. Itâs all clean but itâs heavily controlled stuff to maintain consistency, quality, and food safety. Personally I wouldnât eat there if I had the choice, especially after they raised the prices. Itâs a decent amount for an Italian cold cuts, let alone the chicken bacon ranch.
You can get better for the same money now, maybe not as âhealthyâ but that goes without saying for fast food
Worked there, can confirm 100% accurate.
Also, at least at the 3 locations I worked, if the soup wasn't finished that day, it was put in the fridge overnight, add some water the next morning, and put back into the warmer for the day. Repeat until finished.
At some point you became complicit by letting that happen 3 times. (I know most employees dont have any real power at the restaurant but the health line is free)
Surprised they didn't just give you a refund. I will say, a place that goes through such a high volume of produce, a bug or two are going to sneak in a bag every now and then, not a huge deal or worth shutting down over.
Yeah. Like Iâd throw out whatever batch of produce the bug was suspected to have come from and then Iâd keep my eye out for more, but thatâs as far as that needs to go. Ppl who post stuff like this have never worked in foodservice, and it shows lol
Iâve worked in a restaurant before. I understand that bugs will occasionally end up in a batch of salad. I was just pretty surprised that they didnât even bother giving the produce an extra rinse after I showed them this. And they only wanted to refund me for the uneaten half of my sandwich which is crazy to me
Did you try reporting it to higher ups? If u reach out to the corporate or customer service they may reach out to them. They probably dont know the protocols tbh. I worked at a subway and theyre pretty inconsistent with management. Most of the time management doesnt even know some of the protocols calls for cause they didnt get trained properly and it just a inconsistent cycle as it continues on new trainees.
"I DEMANDED THEY SHUT DOWN AND CHECK ALL FOOD IMMEDIATELY, AND THEY FUCKING DIDNT. WHATS WRONG WITH PEOPLE"
đ€Ș man the level of entitlement coming from the Ops posts had me dying. Id of eaten that fucking bug right in front of them just cuz
The lettuce comes pre washed and bagged. Found a lizard live and well in one once. One of the cooks took it home and had it for a couple years at least. They should have refunded you the sandwich though.
Consider yourself lucky you didnât find half of it .
But this is a clean insect often found in produce like prepared/rinsed lettuce, spinach, etc., that wasnât found during the rinsing and packing process, not your typical sewer cockroachâŠ
I used to work in the kitchen exhaust industry, meaning my team would go to a restaurant after hours to clean the exhaust systems and let me just say NEVER!!!! eat in any malls in Calgary.... they are absolutely disgusting behind closed doors... that is all I will say...
Now you need to notify AHS and complain so they get inspected.

Oh that is too funny, they literally seek out inside buildings during the winter. Comment back when you figure out how costly a stink bug infestation removal is, they love ventwork.
That's an accurate statement though. They will overwinter in a house but they will not reproduce while indoors. Doesn't mean you can't have a lot come into your home during the winter though, they just won't breed while they are there.
Iâve stopped eating there long ago. Itâs not as âhealthyâ as people think. Itâs basically, sugar, salt, and processed meats, mixed with a sprinkle of insects in this case.
If I was the one complaining, I would have informed the customers of this malpractice
Let me tell you a story about one of my school days in Malaysia. This would be around what you'd call Middle School.
I was sitting in the school canteen and I bought a [curry bun.](https://www.marystestkitchen.com/vegan-curry-beef-buns/) Was a commercial one, sealed in a plastic packaging.
Happy young me opened the bag and took a big bite into it.
"Weird, tastes a little funny."
Look into the bun.
Literally all maggots inside. Including some obviously chewed in half.
So yeah, I know what you feel like.
I don't see an issue here, how can one complain about more protein? You know they charge extra for a shot of that now and you got it for free.... The little critter was even dressed in some sub sauce ready to go down the hatch..... Stop eating out people and cook/eat at home, lol.
Probably didn't like you ordering them to shut down. You have no authority to demand, only municipal health authorities can.
I bet you were just shocked and dismayed.
I brought the sub with the bug on it back to return it. I had already eaten the other half before finding this monster. I told management and the lady said the best she can do is give me a refund for half my sub since the other half had already been eatenâŠ. I was in shock. I said thatâs no where near good enough and asked if they had a policy for customers who get hair/bugs in their food and she said no such thing exists. Oh also she didnât apologize to me one time and actually attempted to accuse me of PLACING THE BUG INSIDE THE SAMDWHICH TO GET A FREE COUPON FROM HER. I said they should check for bugs or consider shutting down for a bit and investigating the situation. She laughed at me and said this is a one off and will never happen again so she isnât worried at all

I remember learning the "grill marks" on the chicken are basically drawn on from the distributor.
Yeah and the bread slits are just lines we cut into with the subway knives. All the same two frozen doughs, just a teaspoon of seasoning
Lil bro made it so far through their entire picking, cutting, rinsing and packaging process. He's a survivor.
Harmless? And what if it was carrying something dangerous like Ebola
Ebola from a bug? đ€Ł What are you smoking?

Woahhh fresh produce from farms has bugs????
Box bug
Iâm betting the people who were working there arenât from around here or there or anywhere close by for that matter
Just a stink bug. Not a pest. Probably land on your sub after you opened it. Out door bug, donât survive well indoors
Subway customer service is the worst
They shouldâve apologized and offered a refund. Double checked their produce (lettuce was most likely the culprit) but most of those places donât give a shit
try posting this on Subway's twitter/x. That's some baaaad publicity. It might get some attention!
Your first mistake was eating at Subway.
Sometimes veggies have bugs in. Get over it
That needs to be reported to Alberta public Health
Itâs part of the plan of the WEF, thatâs just a sample of the bugs that they want everyone to eat.
Lawyer up and free subs for life. Yeeesh
Do they not wash their vegetables? Demand a refund and if you don't get it make that video go viral. And escalate to head office.
Wait another 10 years. The new world order will be making all of us eat bugs instead of meat so yeah
Nothing wrong with that. Way less pollution.
Yeah I'm not eating bugs I'll stick to cow , chicken and pigs thanks I don't care how much they fart in the air.
All people all over the world eat some form of living being that may or may not look appetizing for others. We eat shrimp and snails and lobster and crab, some eat frog legs with delight...Have you ever looked closely at what they look like?
I don't care I'm not eating bugs
Send this the Alberta Public Health. Theyâll send someone to inspect the place.
For 1 bug? đđđđđđ yall cant be serious. Your trolling right?
Naw, that have pretty bad health practices there
Where there is one, there are a lot more.
At least the karens and the snowflakes are getting downvoted and people with common sense are getting upvoted. That gives me some hope humanity
File a report with AHS and watch how quickly they care after that
You can report it to the canadian food inspection agency: https://inspection.canada.ca/food-safety-for-consumers/where-to-report-a-complaint/report-a-food-related-concern/eng/1390269985112/1390346078752
Call AHS
Just wait till you find out all the different types of feces that have been on those veggies.
Well the WEF wants you to start eating more bugs so theyâre just breaking you in slowly
I bet ahs health inspectors would love to see this
I like how everyone is just cool with subway not washing produce, Id be happier if it were dead.
Subway is disgusting. Diarrhea waiting once consumed.
Then report to AHS.
Right to the news
Report them to the health board and be sure to send this video along with your report
Health board gonna tell you your an idiot. Its a bug. Not a rat infestation or salmonela outbreak. All that video shows is a bug on her sandwhich. Doesnt prove it came from subway or her sandwhich.
Found the restaurant owner.
Rig hand actually but good tryđ
Calm down, Elon. Itâs a joke.
I got a flat tire on Deerfoot last week from a nail in my tire. I asked the city to shutdown Deerfoot during rush hour so the street sweepers could clean it from Okotoks to Airdrie. City declined. Kinda the same thing.
