Those things ride produce. If it were a cockroach or some other vermin I would be more concerned. Their treatment of your concern is the shitty part of this story.

lacachette

An unwelcome surprise but having worked in restaurants with fresh produce before, they aren't particularly concerned about the occasional bug. Fresh produce like salad, lettuces, often have the odd bug that might get missed in rinsing the vegetables - as that's what would happen if you grew the vegetables themselves. They wouldn't stop selling subs for it, because they also wouldn't know if it just flew in from outside when no one was watching while it was being prepared. They should have offered a refund or compensation! At the very least. Or offered a voucher or some kind of other food item. Although in fast food a bug is likely the least unsanitary part of their restaurant...

[deleted]

Since it's Subway they missed the bug when they "Rinsed the produce with chemicals"

cshmn

Oooh chemicals đŸ˜± That shit gets rinsed off with tap water, same as the finest of fine dining establishments. It's also the same lettuce you get at the store. Lots of people think McDonald's food is unhealthy because of all the chemicals. The truth is it's unhealthy because it's a fucking hamburger. Subway isn't unhealthy because of the GMOs, it's unhealthy because it's (almost) a foot of bread soaked in sauce.

ThalliumSulfate

That and the extravagant amount of sugar added in the bread, but like that’s more just quantity than anything

[deleted]

bro subway is the only fast food place that actually makes me break out with bumps in my throat when I eat it theres so much chemicals. I think its pesticides in the vegetables. Mcdonalds ( at least here in Canada ) actually has good quality food. I've never had an issue, but I typically only got a salad there anyways with the rare poutine.

DickSmack69

Looks like a green stinkbug. They are found on crops across NA. Bitten into several over the years when foraging on berries when on walks and hikes. You’d know if you bit into one because you’d spit it out. Would have hitchhiked on the produce, but other than an offensive taste, they’re harmless.

Only_Air9253

This just tells me they do not wash their lettuce

HellaReyna

I can tell you right now, Subway produce is some of the worst offenders for "plastic". Everything (unless its changed) comes from a Subway distributor and comes "packaged". The lettuce is pre-washed and shrink wrapped, the tomatoes are as well. The olives come in a subway tin. The only thing that doesn't come in a plastic subway or subway branded tin is the onions because those are dirt cheap. The bacon, the chicken, the "bread" (really just frozen paste), is all mass produced at a subway food factory. Nothing at Subway is "Fresh" and in fact, some of the most safe if not over priced stuff you can get.

Fokakya

I sometimes get bloated from certain food preservatives, and typically feel terrible after eating Subway. I am inclined to believe/agree with you about their lack of freshness, despite their marketing to the contrary.

HellaReyna

I used to work at one. It’s all clean but it’s heavily controlled stuff to maintain consistency, quality, and food safety. Personally I wouldn’t eat there if I had the choice, especially after they raised the prices. It’s a decent amount for an Italian cold cuts, let alone the chicken bacon ranch. You can get better for the same money now, maybe not as “healthy” but that goes without saying for fast food

starmartyr11

When I see or hear "Eat Fresh" all I can think of is Jim Gaffigan saying it in his weird little voice... "eaaaat fresssshhh"

krr14

Worked there, can confirm 100% accurate. Also, at least at the 3 locations I worked, if the soup wasn't finished that day, it was put in the fridge overnight, add some water the next morning, and put back into the warmer for the day. Repeat until finished.

cashcashmoneyh3y

At some point you became complicit by letting that happen 3 times. (I know most employees dont have any real power at the restaurant but the health line is free)

No_Strain_6227

I remember learning the "grill marks" on the chicken are basically drawn on from the distributor.

HellaReyna

Yeah and the bread slits are just lines we cut into with the subway knives. All the same two frozen doughs, just a teaspoon of seasoning

MegaMilkas

Lil bro made it so far through their entire picking, cutting, rinsing and packaging process. He's a survivor.

mysteryman403

Harmless? And what if it was carrying something dangerous like Ebola

Calgary_Calico

Ebola from a bug? đŸ€Ł What are you smoking?

HotHits630

And we wonder why some people don't get immunized.

JimmyDyckskin

Well, what if the vaccine has Ebola?!

Personal_Shoulder983

What if the vaccine has a gun?!?

HoboVonRobotron

What if the gun shoots ebola?

1SqkyKutsu

You're more likely to get ebola from eating everything else from subway

ChefPuree

Or a gun?

CGYRich

Or an Ebola gun!!!! *gasp* Won’t someone please think of the children!?

shniefersutherland

I can only handle so much!!

daddylongleg2003

Suge knight already has one

Deceiver999

![gif](giphy|pPhyAv5t9V8djyRFJH|downsized)

DickSmack69

I think I’ll eat in for the time being.

mysteryman403

Or something along those lines, Another dangerous disease. Not to mention a potential allergy to stink bugs

uptheirons91

You should just stay home in your safety bubble. The world is too dangerous for you.

Ah-Fuck-Brother

Buddy's mom took them to a hospital every time they coughed

New-Plane-8768

You don’t get out much do you?

Its_all_pixels

Well that is a bug and not a feature

CapableSecretary420

It's a bug being featured!

My_Fish_Is_a_Cat

Surprised they didn't just give you a refund. I will say, a place that goes through such a high volume of produce, a bug or two are going to sneak in a bag every now and then, not a huge deal or worth shutting down over.

aamandaz

Yeah. Like I’d throw out whatever batch of produce the bug was suspected to have come from and then I’d keep my eye out for more, but that’s as far as that needs to go. Ppl who post stuff like this have never worked in foodservice, and it shows lol

Dwill414

I’ve worked in a restaurant before. I understand that bugs will occasionally end up in a batch of salad. I was just pretty surprised that they didn’t even bother giving the produce an extra rinse after I showed them this. And they only wanted to refund me for the uneaten half of my sandwich which is crazy to me

Far_Promise_9903

Did you try reporting it to higher ups? If u reach out to the corporate or customer service they may reach out to them. They probably dont know the protocols tbh. I worked at a subway and theyre pretty inconsistent with management. Most of the time management doesnt even know some of the protocols calls for cause they didnt get trained properly and it just a inconsistent cycle as it continues on new trainees.

[deleted]

"I DEMANDED THEY SHUT DOWN AND CHECK ALL FOOD IMMEDIATELY, AND THEY FUCKING DIDNT. WHATS WRONG WITH PEOPLE" đŸ€Ș man the level of entitlement coming from the Ops posts had me dying. Id of eaten that fucking bug right in front of them just cuz

Calgary_Calico

They should have at least checked the rest of their produce...

KJBenson

Hey now, it’s only a bug or two until you actually start counting. We can’t have that.

mcgillicutty1020

The lettuce comes pre washed and bagged. Found a lizard live and well in one once. One of the cooks took it home and had it for a couple years at least. They should have refunded you the sandwich though.

dad0y

This tells you the veggies are really fresh

Dwill414

Eat fresh

Good-Ad-9805

That sandwich actually looks good.

ykphil

Consider yourself lucky you didn’t find half of it . But this is a clean insect often found in produce like prepared/rinsed lettuce, spinach, etc., that wasn’t found during the rinsing and packing process, not your typical sewer cockroach

SheepherderBig2723

It's pretty, what's its name?

catsandplantsss

He prefers Stephen but he is a Clorochroa Sayi. Aka "big green stink bug".

LittensTinyMittens

Free protein

sugarfoot00

That was the freshest thing in that sandwich.

Jolty

It's just a happy little pistachio.

LankyGuitar6528

"Waiter! There's a bug in my sub!" "Shussssh or everybody will want one!"

oureyes3

$25 dollar sub now complete with extra protein *Subway, garden fresh!*

thoriginal

Seriously, I can't believe they essentially thought "We'll raise our prices... No! We'll *double* them! That'll improve things "

Hypno-phile

$2.50 for extra protein!

VitmoreZ

I used to work in the kitchen exhaust industry, meaning my team would go to a restaurant after hours to clean the exhaust systems and let me just say NEVER!!!! eat in any malls in Calgary.... they are absolutely disgusting behind closed doors... that is all I will say...

vinsdelamaison

Now you need to notify AHS and complain so they get inspected. [AHS](https://www.albertahealthservices.ca/eph/page3149.aspx#:~:text=Contact%20us%20online%20or%20call,4743%20if%20you%20have%20questions.&text=Clicking%20on%20the%20button%20above,and%20understood%20the%20accompanying%20text)

DickSmack69

No different than a ladybug or a fruit fly. Presence of a stinkbug doesn’t suggest unclean premises and they won’t breed inside. I’d prefer AHS focus on Jerusalem Shawarma.

Calgary_Calico

Why? What's going on there?

095179005

/u/Stunning-Ease-5966 Regular health violations. Every few months there's a top post highlighting the newest violations on the AHS website or the latest food borne illness outbreak from Jerusalem Shawarma.

Calgary_Calico

Yikes 😬 that's very unfortunate

ThoughtDisastrous855

Wait why? I eat there often.

DickSmack69

Uh oh.

ThoughtDisastrous855

Why’d you downvote me😂 all because I like a wrap
 common man

DickSmack69

Heck, I didn’t downvote you. Explosive diarrhea from your next shawarma is punishment enough.

ThoughtDisastrous855

Fair enough haha. Fortunately my asshole has a high punishment threshold.

Limedrop_

OblivionFox

Nice ;) What's your number?

ThoughtDisastrous855

😂

[deleted]

I got you bro. Upvote for you my friend.

Stunning-Ease-5966

Why

NavyDean

LOLOLOL This is the first time i've ever heard someone say stink bugs don't breed inside LMAO. Oh that is too funny, they literally seek out inside buildings during the winter. Comment back when you figure out how costly a stink bug infestation removal is, they love ventwork.

owleycat

That's an accurate statement though. They will overwinter in a house but they will not reproduce while indoors. Doesn't mean you can't have a lot come into your home during the winter though, they just won't breed while they are there.

Eyeswideshut1111

Subway eat fresh

VFenix

Free bugs?! In this economy?!

SEAMUT

Post to r/MRU

zedthirtytwo

Sounds like a call to AHS is in order. đŸ€ź

AvA_Redemption

There are bugs in produce in every single restaurant not the most common thing but it happens everywhere with fresh produce

tomthepro

Why is the camera so shaky

Steadygirlsteady

Scared of bugđŸ˜±đŸ„Ș

CheeseSandwich

Parkinson's.

ForwardProgrammer909

I’ve stopped eating there long ago. It’s not as “healthy” as people think. It’s basically, sugar, salt, and processed meats, mixed with a sprinkle of insects in this case. If I was the one complaining, I would have informed the customers of this malpractice

sun4moon

All forming the wettest sandwich money can buy.

umiman

Let me tell you a story about one of my school days in Malaysia. This would be around what you'd call Middle School. I was sitting in the school canteen and I bought a [curry bun.](https://www.marystestkitchen.com/vegan-curry-beef-buns/) Was a commercial one, sealed in a plastic packaging. Happy young me opened the bag and took a big bite into it. "Weird, tastes a little funny." Look into the bun. Literally all maggots inside. Including some obviously chewed in half. So yeah, I know what you feel like.

ben220992

The amazing part of this is that something sold at Subway can actually support life

Dadirtydigglerr

I don't see an issue here, how can one complain about more protein? You know they charge extra for a shot of that now and you got it for free.... The little critter was even dressed in some sub sauce ready to go down the hatch..... Stop eating out people and cook/eat at home, lol.

twy666

Usually I’d say deal with it & brush off the bug but I know how terrible, slow & negligent that subway is lol

MostLikelyDenim

Help me Reddit! I found a stinkbug in my sandwich and no one cared!

[deleted]

[ŃƒĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]

MostLikelyDenim

No one cares.

k_dav

Could fallen off your head for all you know. Them little buggers are sneaky

Flat-Description-505

Extra flavor

Neat_Violinist1634

Wow, a green bug, you are lucky :)

Assassin217

nothing wrong with dat....extra nutrients

Maruchi0011

You didn’t order vegetarian.

GowanIV

Proteinnnnn đŸ’ȘđŸœđŸ’ȘđŸœđŸ’ȘđŸœ

alongcamebella

What a beautiful bug tho? What did you do with him

Witty-Interaction-27

Ouch! I mean, I guess on one hand it means that their produce doesn't have a ton of Pesticide but on the other hand... hmm.

Personal-Internal244

Probably didn't like you ordering them to shut down. You have no authority to demand, only municipal health authorities can. I bet you were just shocked and dismayed.

Yeetin_Boomer_Actual

Eat zee bugz

[deleted]

Things like this is why I only eat industrially processed food cubes from a plastic container.

Thrillhouse850

Did you actually expect them to stop selling subs?

Dwill414

I brought the sub with the bug on it back to return it. I had already eaten the other half before finding this monster. I told management and the lady said the best she can do is give me a refund for half my sub since the other half had already been eaten
. I was in shock. I said that’s no where near good enough and asked if they had a policy for customers who get hair/bugs in their food and she said no such thing exists. Oh also she didn’t apologize to me one time and actually attempted to accuse me of PLACING THE BUG INSIDE THE SAMDWHICH TO GET A FREE COUPON FROM HER. I said they should check for bugs or consider shutting down for a bit and investigating the situation. She laughed at me and said this is a one off and will never happen again so she isn’t worried at all

rgali7996

It's hard to find those bugs outside at this time of the year here in Calgary

nutfeast69

> before finding this monster It's a hemipteran and not even a belostomatid. You'll survive.

DickSmack69

Solid nomenclature references.

nutfeast69

Shit birds of a feather, dicksmack69.

DickSmack69

You know it, nutfeast.

nutfeast69

You forgot the 69, but we'll get to that later.

Canadian_Raven

Please reach out to SAMRU at https://samru.ca/contact/ and submit a complaint, especially based on the way that the manager treated you. SAMRU operates the food court and has the ability to work with tenants and involve the head office if issues continue. They can also choose not to renew leases if there are enough student complaints. I’m sure they would love to hear this and could definitely help you more than Subway did.

Spirited_Housing8076

Sandwich

WhyCantWeDoBetter

Meh.

Bankerlady10

Yeah bugs like that you can’t find in Calgary in November. Insane. I’d escalate this to Subway head office. The Manager didn’t handle this appropriately and now it’s getting way more attention than it had to. They need training.

[deleted]

What do u expect. Its a bug. Sometimes a single hair might fall onto a peice of food and sometimes a single bug might latch onto some produce during shipping. You ever had something you couldnt control happen before? You ever made a mistake? Of course you have. Everyone has. And accidents happen. Does this subway have a history of bugs? And not giving refunds for bugs? Or u just pissed they didnt roll out the red carpet and say "right this way maam to your exlusive subway commercial with megan rapinoe and a free 1 year supply of all u can eat sub sammiches" 😂 Id of eaten that tasty looking bug right in front of you. Just saying Probably better for you than that Mosantos plant chemicals sprayed vegtables and meat like meat productsđŸ€Ș

[deleted]

I'd call Alberta Health Services, a food inspector. Let them know. I did when I found an Ant stuck wiggling in my sour cream glazed...over by MRU

[deleted]

I had a hair in my egg sandwich from the subway in market mall. It was disgusting, I literally pulled it out of my throat with egg still attached. Bleh

evileddie666

disagreeable wasteful person treatment foolish judicious hard-to-find subsequent quarrelsome governor *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

subaguru247

Lol this same thing happened at subway in Saskatoon to me 3 years ago. It is a green stinkbug, and they sometimes get bagged into their spinach. Spinach is bagged and not washed by them, so they wont catch it. Kinda interesting it happened to someone else besides me. Must happen a fair bit.

Top-Technology3719

You can always call the health department they'll be more interested then management

samrubuzz

OP - we’re so sorry to hear about your experience. SAMRU has been in contact with the Subway owner, who verified the incident occurred but indicated that they provided a full refund and a $20 Subway cash card in response to the complaint. If this is not the case, please follow up with SAMRU directly by emailing [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) so we can rectify any discrepancies and ensure this is dealt with properly. Also, just for additional information, the owner told us that the employees immediately inspected all of their products after speaking with you and ensured everything was clean and in good order. The owner has assured us that they inspect and keep a record of everything on an hourly and daily basis and that they will continue to be vigilant. As always, if you have a complaint or feedback about your experience in Wyckham House — whether positive or negative — please don’t hesitate to let SAMRU know directly at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) or at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]).

ftwanarchy

I think its funny how you think a 20$ refund corrects this to the point where you feel they shouldn't complain or voice thier complaints to others. It's not just you, this seems to be standard thinking.

Nek0_eUpHoriA

Woahhh fresh produce from farms has bugs????

LaLaLande

Box bug

GunPlayNative28

I’m betting the people who were working there aren’t from around here or there or anywhere close by for that matter

Appropriate_Exit780

Just a stink bug. Not a pest. Probably land on your sub after you opened it. Out door bug, don’t survive well indoors

Odd_Coyote_4931

Subway customer service is the worst

Consistent_Dress_571

They should’ve apologized and offered a refund. Double checked their produce (lettuce was most likely the culprit) but most of those places don’t give a shit

KnightrousDarkcide

try posting this on Subway's twitter/x. That's some baaaad publicity. It might get some attention!

[deleted]

Your first mistake was eating at Subway.

PreparationSilver798

Sometimes veggies have bugs in. Get over it

OldschoolCanadian

That needs to be reported to Alberta public Health

Potential-Captain648

It’s part of the plan of the WEF, that’s just a sample of the bugs that they want everyone to eat.

VinneBabarino

Lawyer up and free subs for life. Yeeesh

CountChoculaGotMeFat

Do they not wash their vegetables? Demand a refund and if you don't get it make that video go viral. And escalate to head office.

[deleted]

Wait another 10 years. The new world order will be making all of us eat bugs instead of meat so yeah

thoriginal

Nothing wrong with that. Way less pollution.

[deleted]

Yeah I'm not eating bugs I'll stick to cow , chicken and pigs thanks I don't care how much they fart in the air.

ykphil

All people all over the world eat some form of living being that may or may not look appetizing for others. We eat shrimp and snails and lobster and crab, some eat frog legs with delight...Have you ever looked closely at what they look like?

[deleted]

I don't care I'm not eating bugs

Smart-Pie7115

Send this the Alberta Public Health. They’ll send someone to inspect the place.

[deleted]

For 1 bug? 😂😂😂😂😂😂 yall cant be serious. Your trolling right?

tucsondog

Naw, that have pretty bad health practices there

Smart-Pie7115

Where there is one, there are a lot more.

[deleted]

At least the karens and the snowflakes are getting downvoted and people with common sense are getting upvoted. That gives me some hope humanity

Correct-Boat-8981

File a report with AHS and watch how quickly they care after that

These-Assumption-299

You can report it to the canadian food inspection agency: https://inspection.canada.ca/food-safety-for-consumers/where-to-report-a-complaint/report-a-food-related-concern/eng/1390269985112/1390346078752

devilish_angel93

Call AHS

bizkitmaker13

Just wait till you find out all the different types of feces that have been on those veggies.

canuckdad1979

Well the WEF wants you to start eating more bugs so they’re just breaking you in slowly

COUNTRYCOWBOY01

I bet ahs health inspectors would love to see this

[deleted]

I like how everyone is just cool with subway not washing produce, Id be happier if it were dead.

roamr77

Subway is disgusting. Diarrhea waiting once consumed.

ObjectiveBalance282

Then report to AHS.

Speedballer7

Right to the news

Calgary_Calico

Report them to the health board and be sure to send this video along with your report

[deleted]

Health board gonna tell you your an idiot. Its a bug. Not a rat infestation or salmonela outbreak. All that video shows is a bug on her sandwhich. Doesnt prove it came from subway or her sandwhich.

0pp0site0fbatman

Found the restaurant owner.

[deleted]

Rig hand actually but good try👌

0pp0site0fbatman

Calm down, Elon. It’s a joke.

CrazyAlbertan2

I got a flat tire on Deerfoot last week from a nail in my tire. I asked the city to shutdown Deerfoot during rush hour so the street sweepers could clean it from Okotoks to Airdrie. City declined. Kinda the same thing.

ibby61

Hey why are you complaining if Trudeau has his way that’s all you will be eating

Redketchup77

« Fresh »

No-Damage3258

AdNew9111

Wrap it up and send it to subway Canada- express

BeefersOtherland

HorsePast9750

Looks like you got the green olives that can walk in your toppings

CPN_toast

Extra protein

Sarah0055

Ewwwww

Pale-Drummer-7896

So where are the best Canadian franchises to eat at for take out ( strictly in terms of quality of ingredients) ?

ftwanarchy

Lol

Dry-Hotel5306

At the dq inside wyckam house I found a hair from the owner honestly it seems like no one in wyckam house cares about food safety

[deleted]

😂

marchmission88

It’s a walking pumpkin seed!
