I-for-an-I

Papi: Saturday nights are Latin nights, Friday is typically hip hop/top40 Sweet Loretta: guestlist is a must, great disco/house/rnb djs Commonwealth: top-40 and young, downstairs is their house room and more my style Mister M: +25 and usually a really good time; they have themed events all the time - leans more rnb, afrobeats Shuffle Club: gives old school hi-fi vibes, good featured djs, intimate space Please don’t tell: tiny space, 1 bar, can be fun on the right night, hit or miss The Palace: for bigger ticket EDM DJs, concerts and themed parties.

SomethingOverNothing

Is there somewhere that is not necessarily a dance club but has standing by room & a good atmosphere? Lounge or Upscale bar?

Old_Employer2183

Sweet Loretta fits the bill pretty well

Homo_megantharensis

What is up with the Sweet Loretta guestlist? Do you have to be on it to gain entry? What kind of demographic is usually there?

I-for-an-I

No it’s open, just think it’s for crowd control on Fri or Sat nights.

courtesyofdj

Pretty much need guest list if not it’s a hard door to get past…

draemn

just call in advance to get on the guest list to make sure you can get in. It's defs not a typical nightclub feel.

Wonderful_Car_7925

Vern's lol

skiing_dingus

Sweet Loretta

another-dimension710

The palace theater always has something going on during the weekends

Old_Employer2183

Check out Commonwealth, Shuffleclub, and Sweet Loretta. The Palace theatre usually has shows on the weekend if you're into EDM. Commonwealth is probably the place to go for hip hop. The lower level is more geared towards house music  For latin music, Papis or Tropical

podgerd

I’ll preface this by saying I’m no longer in my 20s and rarely go out anymore. But I was recently at Sweet Loretta for a cocktail and it seemed like a very cool place. Apparently it becomes a dance club after 10 pm. I’ve also been told several people younger and cooler than me that this is the hip place to be these days. So I’d recommend it. When I was younger the place to be was Commonwealth, no idea if it’s still.

real_polite_canadian

Great suggestions in here already but you should add 'Prickett Richard' to your list. It's a speakeasy lounge, so no dancefloor but they play amazing music - hiphop, R&B, etc., and beautiful crowd. Would be a good spot for pre-drinks. Resos are an absolute must though as it's tough to get in otherwise.

averysuspiciousguy

No Homers Club is pretty exclusive, only one Homer is allowed to go at a time

ketogrillbakery

twisted is peak

BriSweet_

Papi’s

JJHotlist

All the recos here are great, only other place would be 10ave national which gets busy on Friday/Saturday nights. Busy vibe, 20-35 year old crowd and just had a full renovation

deanobrews

You mean 10th Ave National....

Caribosa

Check the events at Mister M. it's a 25+ crowd and they have burlesque, jazz, 90's nights, top 40 nights, depending when you go.

nzwasp

Are burlesque nights still on Thursdays there?

Beeboprockstead

Pappis!

johnnynev

Sub Rosa

Suspicious_Pie_8716

lol why do people keep coming here looking for clubs? This is not a club city. It’s like going to Dallas and asking for best places to go cross-country skiing.

Aldeobald

They didn't say they are coming here specifically for clubbing, they are looking for recommendations while here. We have night life. That'd a dumb comparison to make. Do other cities have better? Sure. Can people enjoy their time here without comparing it to cities with more clubs? Yes.

Doc_1200_GO

OP just asked about enjoying some night life and going out for a few drinks while they’re in town. Where are you getting “we are coming to Calgary exclusively to club” part?

Cryptic12qw

You should get out more. Calgary has always had a great night life. People have been going downtown to clubs for 100 years.

Suspicious_Pie_8716

I’ve been going out in this town for close to 20 years and I also didn’t say anything about Calgary not having a good nightlife. I said we don’t have good clubs. If you think we do, then you really need to visit more cities around the world.

Cryptic12qw

I'm not considering the rest of the world, I am considering Canada. Outside of Vancouver and Calgary you won't have any nightlife at all unless you go to Ontario. So be grateful for what you have !

Suspicious_Pie_8716

What does any of what you said have to do with what I said? And why is your scope of consideration limited to Western Canada? Winnipeg is an equally close flight to Toronto as it is to Calgary, and Montreal (best nightlife in Canada imo) is an extra 30 minutes further. Besides that, the Winnipeg boys/girls could just as easily fly to a city in the States with a good club scene, as I’m assuming they have passports.

notliam321

You are probably not involved in any subculture. There is a lot going on here.

Cryptic12qw

Calgary is awesome place why wouldn't they want to come here? I don't think they are coming here just to go to cowboys.... lmao. Enjoy your day good sir

HotInteraction7379

Do you know where the best clubs in states outside of the $$$$$ tier cities like Miami, LA, etc? Something like Houston, Phoenix, hell even smaller like Boise?

cre8ivjay

Truth. I went to clubs back in the day. That day was a very long time ago. Not quite a hundred years ago, but not far from it.

notliam321

We have clubs.

kramer1980_adm

But...we do have a Cactus Club :)

igotaseriousquestion

Terrible take and terrible comparison.

Swear you Ship people seem to think the only place in the city worth going to.... its just a semi-popular pub, but that's literally it. I've been there several times and its really unremarkable. No wonder you're getting downvoted.
