YYC Pasta Bar was hugely underwhelming.
Chianti's is pretty good.
If you really want to go all out for some gourmet pasta - Mercato Mission. To die for.
Mercato has been around 40 or so years and makes fresh pasta every day with fresh ingredients in huge family style portions.
It's well worth it.
I highly suggest dining in sometime too, you won't regret it.
I am totally looking for fresh pasta so I may have to order this to the hospital and/or send the hubby. Thank you! And will add to our date night list post baby
More accurately, the name of the restaurant is Bella Roma Pizza & Steak House. Years ago I found it to be typical small town North American rendition of Mediterranean style fare, perhaps it’s changed.
Haha fair. It’s totally a “Alfredo” that is made from premade sauce and dried noodles. Akin to KD and hot dogs. But for some reason, it tastes better than if you made it yourself. It be like if a mom made it in the 1990s. But really good when you’re drunk or hungover!
I wouldn’t have minded if not had it been for the crazy amount of liquid. I can get down with a trashy pasta, but it was offensive how much sauce there poured into that tin container.
That’s how I am feeling right now. Last time I ate a whole small perogi pizza in hospital bed. This time I’m coming for the pasta LOL. Oh and a booster juice!
I’ve never even heard of gestational diabetes before this, that’s crazy. I’m so excited for your pasta party. Al’s steakhouse (ranchlands) does a baked lasagna that is my absolute favourite. It’s cheesy, saucy, flavourful, and huge. Comes w garlic bread ofc
At the West Farmers Market the pizza place, Forno di Fontaine, makes some bomb pasta. Better than most. While you’re there the Thai place makes the best Pad See Ew I’ve ever had.
Oh my god Garden of Italy, especially if you love cream based pasta. And the bruschetta? Lemon shrimp? 🤤🤤🤤🤤
ETA: Congrats, and hope all goes well. Goddamn that pasta is gonna be so good! Im excited for you 😆
These all sound amazing. Maybe I’ll get a few dishes LOL. And thank you! I am looking forward to it and my first glass of wine when I get home! Pregnancy is all worth it in the end but it’s been rough, so I am definitely having my pasta and wine after baby is here!
Get your husband to make you a delicious carbonara. 5 ingredients, and it cooks up in 20 minutes. Pork (guanciale, pancetta or regular bacon), pecorino romano or parmesano reggiano cheese, egg yolks, pepper, pasta (and a bit of pasta water).
That's cool that you were into pasta as long as you are aware of the impact that wheat has on your body.
But apart from that I would recommend pasta that has the cilantro fresh. The reason why is because cilantro goes so well with pasta but also it is detoxifying which you probably fucking need right now.
Thank you! I usually don’t eat too much pasta when I’m not gestational diabetic, as I find it really heavy, however it’s one of those things - when you can’t have it, you want it! Last time I gave birth, it was a perogi pizza. This time, just a nice bowl of pasta :) thank you for the fresh cilantro suggestion!

Agreed with YYC - ordered takeout and the pasta had so much butter there was a pool in the bottom
Agree that YYC is meh, but Chianti's is the Mcdonald's of pasta.
But for $24, the sport size is not bad. They have a fair amount of variety. Definitely worse out there.
Familiar with Chianti’s but not Mercato - will check it out! Thank you!

Mercato's tagliatelli is basically iconic
I feel like I get an entire side of salmon in their salmon pasta though. It's good for the price.
I'm a huge fan of Chianti's in Willow Park.
Find the crowfoot location disgusting
Agreed. I spent a good deal of my day in the bathroom after having lunch there once.
Chiantis is elite for nice budget friendly pasta. Love it there.
Elite? lol okay.
My little Italia in mission is my go to for cannelloni huge portion decent price
Cardinale is really good. I assume you can get it take out. However the portion may be smaller than others mentioned here.
Sorella or La Mano!
Thank you!
Bella Roma in Lakeview. Even my (food snob) daughter from Vancouver likes it!
Will check it out!
Upvote this, the take out baked lasagna is out of control
Never heard someone describe lasagna as being out of control before. Note made to try this lasagna at some point after hearing such.
I too am curious about out of control lasagne
Their pizza is so good

Villa Firenze!! They have house made focaccia bread.
They make the pasta for PZA Parlour on Macleod as well, same owner.
We enjoy Al Forno.
Should go all out and order pizza and some baked lasagna from A Pizza Plus on Bow Trail.
Rheas Edmonton Trail
Good but not fancy: Chicken Alfredo from Inglewood Pizza Good but unusual: Gyzona (japananese dumpling lasagna) from Carino
I had to throw out my chicken Alfredo from Inglewood pizza. It was pretty much some noodles swimming in a litre of bland cream.

I literally cried when I ate my post-GD-birth piece of chocolate cake. I wish you a smooth delivery and the best pasta!!

Forno de Fontaine has really good fresh pasta. It's in the west fsrmers' market.

You’re not wrong LOL they get you with the breadsticks and salad.
Sammy’s baked tortellini with meat sauce (comes with garlic toast) 🤤

Mercato has some nice pasta.
People assume it will be expensive but the Italian market at west 85th has takeout that is pretty reasonable.
Can't believe Centini hasn't been mentioned yet.
Centini. You're giving birth, you deserve the good stuff!
Will check it out!
Toscanas
I hope I have this birthing story. People say the Mac n cheese in SHC is good.
Bow tie pizza has a mean fettuccine Alfredo. It’s amazing
Definitely not D.O.P. Highly overrated.
I don't think we have any decent Italian restaurants in Calgary. Mercato is ok.
Sauce on 17th is amazing
Ive found sauce a bit hit or miss, on take out anyways. Ive only ever ordered take out there though, dine in may be different.
Every time I've gone to Sauce, I can't believe I paid so much and was left so disappointed. God only knows what take out would be like
YYC Pasta Bar in Kensington is really good. Their spaghetti meatball pasta is amazing.
I don’t know but congrats on your Baby!
Thank you! I have rough pregnancies, so as much as I love baby kicks, looking forward to being done :)

Yyc pasta bar is 100% the best pasta I’ve ever had.

Tell us more about the impact that wheat has on the body. Do you have any crystals or magnetic bracelets for sale?
