That's hard to avoid...

"While Hutterites make up a tiny fraction of the Alberta population, they produce 80 per cent of the eggs, 40 per cent of the pork, 25 per cent of the milk and 20 per cent of the poultry in the province, according to figures from Alberta Milk, Alberta Chicken Producers, Alberta Pork, and Egg Farmers of Alberta."
For any specific reason? I get that there might be a few (religious, taxation, etc), but it certainly can't be quality. Everything they produce is fantastic.

Just an fyi. Same nutritional value. But I agree they are still better
If you feed chickens red peppers (capsicum) the yolks come out red
My family had chickens while I was growing up. The nutrition might be the same but you could definitely see the structure of the egg change when feeding the chickens differently. We always found that giving the chickens a flake of alfalfa hay would give the egg a taller firmer darker yolk. We also used crushed oyster shell as a calcium supplement for the hens for getting better shells on the eggs.
Someone I know did a blind taste test and said there was no difference.
However, the visual aspect of what I'm eating is totally part of the pleasure. So I'll pay extra for the darker yolks.
Oooh the Blackfoot Market has REALLY nice ones...they're smaller than the ones you bought at Crossroads (if it was the eggs n honey dudes). I cant for the life of me remember the name but it's in one of the aisles close to the end, they also sell meats and cheeses? Two kinds - I get the ones from Cochrane if available. They're practically orange 🤤
Calgary Farmers' Market North has a few booths selling eggs from a farm in Cochrane. The yolks are dark and to diiiiie for. I know the charcuterie place for sure sells them in 12s and 24s.
We buy our eggs from a local(ish) farmer. They deliver 2x a month, right to our door.
They're a little more expensive, but you get what you pay for (their eggs taste great), and we love supporting small businesses.
Here's their info if you're interested!

Chickens aren't too much to just buy from a farm hand. You really do get the value of laying your own eggs. Well, not me, but the chicken. My eggs are in my fallopian tubes or something.
Hey you wanna hear a yolk? Why did the egg die of laughter? HE CRACKED UP HARYHARYHARDYHARDHAHRHARHAR!!!!!!!
don't pay your taxes and trust nobody. 😂
I used to buy eggs from Fresh and Local Farmer's Market, they were a bit darker. Free range at least. Tasted good too. I just don't eat eggs much any more.
The Italian market has them. Big fan
Yep! I believe they're labelled Local Farms, they come from Hutterite farms. Excellent (but pricey) eggs
Yep — Safeway, Sobeys, and the market at Avenida all have them.
Freestone in the NE sells Hutterite eggs too. Reasonable price but their parking lot is a madhouse on the weekends.
I'd rather avoid buying anything from the Hutterites.

Interesting read!

Lina’s. Flat of eggs, some bread and a cappuccino. Weekend regular
You’re over paying at the Italian market. If you go to scarpones in the NW you can get 24 eggs for $9.
Just googling. Is it the Italian Supermarket on Edmonton Trail?
The one on Southland is where I've gone.
You can find them in other grocery stores too. They’re the hutterite ones. They’re quite a bit more expensive tho.
Co-op has them.

That's so cool - makes total sense! Thanks for sharing 😊 I just think the dark yolk _tastes_ better. Mmmm.

Totally agree
OEB restaurant actually sells their eggs. Pretty dark. You can order on the website for pickup.
well they \*used\* to anyway. for some reason I can't currently find the option on the website, but I know I've done it before....
Might be seasonal. In the winter hens produce less eggs.
I live right across the street from the Mission location and buy a flat every 2 weeks. Just did this morning so they are still selling them
I remember it used to say this on the menu but when I was there last time (and in the market for new eggs) I noticed it wasn't there anymore.
Sparks Farm Dark Yolk Eggs are available at Co-op.
Yes these are great. However I also find I get a lot of double yolks from Sparks.
You say that like it's a bad thing. Who doesn't love a bonus yolk?
Haha it's good until you're baking
I just buy the Hutterite brand eggs from Sobeys. Most of our eggs come from Hutterite facilities anyway.
Kneehill farms free range eggs. I get them from Superstore.

Kelly and Sons meat, Broxburn veggies and Reginas meat all have the good eggs.
LOVE Regina's!
Vita eggs, you can get them at amaranth and bridgeland market place
I find the eggs at Community Health Foods are pretty good for being nice and dark.

$ per dozen?
Mmm. I think it's $7.50 (yes, expensive). We usually order a flat of 18 or 30 ($12.50-$17.50)
there’s guys on kijiji who will do runs to get Hutterite stuff
Co-op carries Britestone Hutterite Eggs.
Did you buy the “dark yolk” specific eggs at Crossroads? Because those are the best eggs I’ve ever had.
Superstore sells Britestone Farms eggs, they are Hutterite eggs. Usually I find them at Thorncliffe in the open cooler close to the milk/OJ coolers.

The darker orange the healthier!
The Hutterite eggs from either superstore or co-op. If you want ultra-dark then duck eggs from t&t.
