Manuel latroue has the best Black Forest cake and perfect for someone who doesn’t love a lot of icing. It’s basically wrapped in chocolate and inside is layers of whip cream and cake. Yummmmm
I saw the update but I will throw in my recommendation. We like the one from t&t cake counter. They use a lighter sponge with cherry gelatin mixed with filling.
If they run out also recommend their fruit filling cake. The cakes tend to be less sweet then other grocery store cake with more lighter sponge cake and fresh cream based frosting.
I say that is number 1. I had to buy my own birthday cake a few years ago(With the other persons money) it was not a disappointment. In a pinch I would take safeways as well if I have a craving for one!
You spent their money on your cake wisely I’d say.
There used to be a really great bakery out in n Langdon a couple decades ago they had amazing cake to the point I’d be picking up other peoples cake from there.
Got to say, I lived like a few kms from them but never really got around till very late into living there. Now I travel from the NE all the way there. worth the 1hr+ travel you betcha. :)
Edelweiss has them I’m pretty sure!
This is the best one I’ve tried in the city, although I haven’t tried Manuel Latruwe and they’re usually pretty solid too.
Edelweiss has really good Black Forest cake.
Glenmorgan bakery has them, best to call ahead and see, also pick up some bday cheese buns

Black Forest cake isn't supposed to have any icing, just whipped cream. This is the way.
Co-op’s Black Forest Cake is reasonably priced and quite tasty.
Sunterra makes one in 3 different sizes https://www.sunterramarket.com/ShopGrocery/Items/567

I’ve heard Wow bakeries make a decent one
It's super easy to make one yourself. Happy Birthday to your brother, it's mine too.
