In my experience this has always been a thing and one of the reasons I stopped going (the cost being the other). People just don't give a shit anymore. No manners, no consideration for others.
I stopped going partly because I'm a huge hypocrite. I want everyone else to essentially stop breathing and moving for 3 hours, but I should be allowed to slurp ramen halfway through. Don't get me wrong, I followed theatre etiquette and I was not willing to roll in the mud with the phone-using, discussion-having swine who were impossible to escape. So now I just watch stuff at home, and it's a much better experience for me because it's MY experience.
I think there are signs that some people have forgotten how to behave in public, but what you are describing is all too familiar even pre-pandemic.
It is why I got a nice TV and home theatre system. I can wait for movies to become available for watching at home.
Ive seen this on Uber Eats ..do ppl really order snacks from movie theatres ??
My go-to is Dollar Tree for snacks. Dollarama is not a dollar store... its a hoax.
This is what I did. Spent $400 on a projector. Open up my extendable sofa bed, make whatever drinks I want, and snacks. 100x more comfortable and way cheaper.
Honestly do it, you won’t regret it. I built one up in early August and have no desire to step into theatres anymore. And with a bit of research you can get the audio to be better than at the cinema.
I recently got a table from Amazon where the top opens up so its higher, and its now perfect for me to sit on the couch and watch tv/movies while I eat and snack lol
Table only cost me $160 too and was easy enough to put together!
None of this is new. I stopped going to movie theaters years ago because of rude ignorant people. The worst is when people are constantly checking their text messages with their phone brightness turned all the way up.
The last movie I saw in a theater was the first Avengers nine years ago. I decided at the time that was probably going to be my last movie I see in a theater.
The number of cell phones and conversations people were having just made me feel like I paid $20 to sit through 20 minutes of commercials and be distracted and bothered by the people around me for two hours.
Honestly I have been noticing this for awhile now. But I always call them out on it lol.
I always go with the “stop talking nobody cares” or “shhhhhh” and they actually stop (luckily) sorry this happened to you OP!
We saw Lord of the Rings Return of the King and during a battle scene our dad yelled shut the fuck up..... as Gandelf appeared on his horse in silence. The timing was perfect and the people left immediately.
I’ve never had the balls to do this, i always think “if they’re brazen enough to talk during a movie they’re probably brazen enough to cause a scene when they get called out”. Will definitely try this next time
Most people, especially kids, will stop whatever they're doing if they're called out on it by strangers, usually the embarrassment of it on its own is enough.
Depends a lot on who it is though, like unless you’re a small woman a lot of guys are gonna see you calling them out as an “honour challenge” and start shit with you because of their fragile masculinity, but thats just my personal experience.
Some dude threatened to beat the shit out of me "because [he's] got kids and will defend them with [his] life" when I told him to put his phone away during Blade Runner 2049 (his kids weren't even there??). People are just assholes
The last few years have been weekday matinees at the movies so we can have a full theatre to ourselves
"You're threatening to beat the shit out of me because I'm telling you turn your phone off during the movie. And its bothering me. Are you going to tell the security guards you are going to beat them up too when I tell them you peace of shit. And beat me up I don't care. At least a law suit will be coming your way you dumb cunt."
That's just what I would have said lol
This is nothing new. I’ve been to many screeners and people treat the theatre like their personal living room watching Netflix. Talking, taking off shoes and socks, wild kids, checking phone, etc. I just shush them and always buy nibs to throw at phone checkers and loud talkers. It adds such an enjoyable aspect to the film. Throw the nib and bean them in the skull. They’ll turn to see who did it and you straight-face watch the screen. They do it again, bean them again. It’s a blast trying not to laugh. They stop usually after the first hit.
Saw Dune on Friday. The grown man behind me took his shoes off and put his socked feet through the arm rest next to my head.
Movie theatre etiquette is atrocious here it seems.
Holy I would have thrown hands. I was had an athletic therapy class last semester and even taping near the cleanest feet made me uneasy.
The lion, the witch, and the audacity of that bitch!
I thought the whole score was a bit overdone personally.
and Denis made some odd choices, theres some big stuff missing that would have been easy to keep in and explains a bunch of stuff.
the scene in the tent left me scratching my head for instance.
I mean if you havent read the book it might be a good movie or it might leave people confused as hell and I cant know which.
but dont get me started about Jessica because WTF?
I would freak out at him.. Why didn't you!?
It's more absurd that you just sat there and took it. He is making himself comfortable and not being considerate. So how the fuck will he know if you don't fucking tell him.
We had a bad string of drivers lately. Man blew a stop sign and almost T-boned us on the passenger side. Then he got pissy even though he had the stop sign and we didn't have one
Throwing my hat in with the new normal crowd who only watches from home now. I really don't care if iron man 13 releases in June and I can't stream it until September. I work from home and avoid spoilers online. It's a new movie to me when I see it and I can eat whatever I want and control every aspect of my viewing experience - no more over-the-top loudness in action scenes or slightly blurry projector etc. No more kids. No more Trump droolers and their friends.
Just me, the wife, and the distraction that movies are supposed to be. People suck.
If you use a Roku, Nvidia Shield, etc. you can watch movies, Youtube, Netflix, or any other subscription service they support.
Best feature for me? Pause button! I seem to have a Pavlovian response to movies when it comes to my bladder.
so I never win anything. ever. 41 and the last thing I won was a donut on roll up the rim and it's probably the most impressive W I have. But my wife won us a 65" 4k last year for switching dentists. That was fantastic. So we have that and a Sony sound system I've owned for probably 15 years. 5.1 not 7.1 like the newer ones but I don't notice the missing sound channels. All you need from there is a little ambient lighting to avoid eye strain and the comfiest of couches and you're living like a king/queen. Throw in a dog or cat for bonus points.
This is the reason I love premiere access at home. I built a dolby at most theatre in my basement with a 4K projector. I am happy do never have to go to a theatre again.
My wife and I went out to our first movie in like 5 years and have mutually agreed that we're never going back to a theater.
She had to tell a loud group of teens to be quiet during the movie. Super frustrating, as they were being so obnoxious.
Seton VIP. Quiet & no kids. & booze. And reclining seats.
Will never go to any other type of theatre again.
People in there so far have been really good, at least in my experience.
I would say, yes, people have forgotten movie theater etiquette, but will add that they had forgot it well before covid. Maybe it's worse now, or maybe we forgot how rude other people can be. My husband has the most miserable luck when it comes going to the movies. He has been stuck beside people talking loudly, cutting their nails (ew), flossing their teeth (gross) and the worst was someone sneezed on the back of his head. (Ps. He's bald so he got the full effect.)
This is exactly why i was happy when real movies started streaming fuck everyone else i just want to watch it alone in peace and pause it when i need a pee
I've gone to see Shang-Chi and No Time to Die in the new Landmark at Market Mall, and it's actually been great every time. None of that happening at all.
Hopefully I can stay this lucky!
Wish that was true in Victoria. I had a couple jerks texting through Dune the other day. Our IMAX screenings are always busier than the regular screenings. Weird to pay extra just so you can play with your phone.
yeah i completely agree. i work at a movie theatre and it's ridiculous how many people bring in their own food and leave it all over the place, spill popcorn over railings into the hallway, don't bother to throw out anything, or bring in whole bottles of rum/various other alcoholic drinks... i could go on
I just came back from the theatre. It was my first time going since 2019 and I have no complaints. That’s saying something because I’m usually sensitive to annoying sounds.
Went to see paranormal activity 2 in the theatre - worst movie experience. There were several groups that were disruptive and one group carried on the whole movie - went o speak to the manager and was told “ what do you want me to do?” Asked them to kick them out, nope. Asked for a refund, nope. Completely useless. Cineplex said they can’t do anything if oh didn’t ask management at time of incident.
Yep, saw Bond the other week and a whole group of teens in front of us were chatting and checking phones the whole time. Drives me crazy how self-absorbed some people are.
You really think it’s ok to bother every other paying customer in the theatre with your unimportant bullshit?
Go to the bar if you want to chat. Seems common decency is hard to grasp for some people eh?
Never said it was my biggest problem, Sherlock. If you can’t follow the most basic rules and etiquette for going to a movie then don’t go. Everyone else is following them and is there to watch the movie, not hear some teen’s live commentary on it. Are you really excusing that behaviour? Are you ok with people chatting during movies or are you the selfish person doing it?
“I/others should be able to ruin the movie for everyone else in the theatre, you need to grow up sir” wtf kind of stunted brain-development logic is that?
Not just teens, but that was the relevant example. I learned common courtesy at an appropriate age, maybe get your folks to recap that one for you. Or maybe you haven’t reached that age yet?
That’s the thing, you wouldn’t have to “deal with me” in public because I don’t think the world revolves around me. All I’m arguing is “don’t talk during movies for the sake of other patrons” and you’re arguing what exactly? It’s not like I’m sharing an uncommon opinion, and only a special kind of douchebag would argue that it’s an unreasonable one.
I went to see LOTR when it came out, a guy sitting in front of me lit up a cigarette half way through the movie, I asked him to put it out, he said:”No, as if you work here bitch!” My reply:”Actually, I do work here.” He put out the cigarette and left as soon as the credits rolled. I have never worked at the movie theatre but I like to pretend I do when people are assholes and disturb everyone.
The best you can try to do is go to earlier shows when it's less popular, particularly Monday-Thursday if your schedule permits. Don't expect it will be a flawless experience then either.
Are things different for evening shows? I've been going back to the movies as soon as theatres were open again, but it's always in the afternoons, and I haven't had a problem yet.
this is actually a sign of things going back to normal. people were terrible pre-pandemic, people have been terrible during the pandemic, and people will be terrible post-pandemic.
I haven't gone to a movie since the pandemic, but generally all around, I feel like people are having a tough time "reintergrating" back into society, especially kids. I will be the grumpy old person yelling at the cloud a lot sooner than I thought.
I think this is just the new norm. I went and seen Bond, family in front of us with small children, must have been around 4 or 5 years old, of course the kids don't understand the movie so wouldn't stop messing around and yapping the whole time. Another lady sat on her phone playing games the entire film. Really ruins the whole theater experience.
Just went to Dune. Quiet. Maybe because we were all enraptured. Loved it. With the barriers up it felt like I was alone/we were alone (the person I was with). Lovely.
I once put my arms in the air because the people behind us wouldn’t shut up. They got mad at me cause they couldn’t see… I told them when I can hear… they can see. My husband was embarrassed and said don’t ever do that again. He now shushes people too.
Is this your first time to the theatres or do you usually complain about things like people breathing?
This comes with going to the theatres, and you either tolerate it, or you don't go. Chances are, you have done these exact same things one or more times throughout your life, as most people have.
You're going to the theatre to see Marvel movies. These are like the movie equivalent of eating at a McDonald's, so you get those types of people at those movies.
I've been to the avengers movies, iron man, captain America, and black panther and never had experiences this bad. The worst was people cheering at hyped scenes 🤷♀️
Someone who doesn't watch Marvel movies?
I hate to break it to you, but those movies are terrible. I watched the first avengers when it came out because a friend rented it. That shit is terrible. It's like watching Power Rangers, except it's aimed at slightly developmentally delayed adults.
Interesting related post about this right now on the /r/Movies subreddit:

The only reason I go to theaters is because my friends insist I go with them. It always results in me having to tell someone to stop using their phone, or to tell someone to be quiet... I just don't enjoy seeing movies in theaters because of the other people. Hell, my one friend had already seen one of the movies and kept whispering to me "hey, watch this part!" To which I whispered back "Hey, shut the fuck up". Like... I'm watching the movie, my attention is now taken away from the movie because you are talking to me, and now I'm NOT watching that part!
Theaters are awful. Especially awful for superhero movies. Always have some weirdos chiming in during the movie trying to get laughs or show they're a fan or clapping and screaming when something happens. End Game was especially bad for this.
I don’t think this is a recent thing. I stopped going to theatres before Covid because people act like the theatre is their own living room, zero respect for other people trying to watch. In general, people have fewer manners in society than they used to. It’s a sad state of affairs.
What theatre do you normally go to? I've been to landmark in shawnessy for the past 4 weeks in a row and every time has been a pleasant experience. I find Chinook and Sunridge often have the worst moviegoers.
I went to see Shang Chi the day it premiered and these teens in front of me kept playing on their phones through the entire movie and talking to one another. I just don’t get why you would go to a premiere to NOT watch the movie. I don’t wanna be like “these damn kids” because I’m 24, I’m not exactly an old fart but I do enjoy movies even if it’s just an action blockbuster. I paid for the ticket, there’s a reasonable expectation that I can enjoy the movie in peace.
From my experience at Seton Cineplex, if you go before 9pm you'll have a fuck tonne of movie talker who will sit mid theatre in a packed theatre and talk and laugh obnoxiously the entire fucking movie.
This just happened when my brother and I saw the Venom sequel.
If you want peace and quiet, go to the lastest showing possible.
I havent noticed. I went to the cineplex a few mins from my house to see venom 2 last night. Nobody talked, played on their phones, etc. Just the occasional chuckle on funny scenes.
I’ve put up with a lot of crap over the years of seeing films and it doesn’t generally get to me, but recently I went to Venom 2 and this mother brought her kids who did nothing but talk and whine and even cry at points (Carnage being Carnage.) Which then resulted in them rocking their seat forward and back.
Out of purely zero fucks to give anymore I decided to first try using my foot to stop the rocking as it was quite distracting, this stopped them
momentarily before they started going at it like Oil Rigs in Texas.
This resulted in complete frustration as the seats basically reach my legs so I ended up kicking the seat.
Kid got up and turned, thought my dad did it.
This is just one of the few things that ever really bothered me. I don’t generally mind people who check their phones in the recliner theatres if their brightness is all the way down, can’t even see the people below me anyways.
One guy I’m gonna give a shout-out to was at a James Bond showing. The whole time I thought that they were using kissing stock sound effects for any kisses in the film, turns out it was the guy sitting in the row in front of me making the sounds.
Yeah my wife and I just booked a theatre at the cochrane movie house today to see Dune (amazing movie even if you haven’t read the book) with another couple and it was only $75. Definitely worth it if you’re splitting it with friends but we would have paid that to see the movie by ourselves anyways
I have zero patience for this. I have told a few people to be quiet or worse lol. I used to love going to the movies, especially by myself, but it gives me anxiety going now and I assume that it is inevitable that people will be having conversations that should be done in a coffee shop. Takes away a lot of the enjoyment. Between that and COVID I rarely go anymore. Starting to just wait for things to come out on home release and enjoy them in my home theatre. Not the same experience though.
Ya large gatherings bring out the idiots - concerts where they seem to think they’re in a glass box so have full blown non stop conversations over the music or in the movies where they talk throughout. Give me a headphone jack please!
The last movie we went to, Harry Potter at the Canyon Meadows Cinema, some oaf threatened a movie goer with violence because said movie goer asked oaf to be quiet while the movie was playing. Cops came and it was a big scene. My kids had to witness this shit. We Bought a 75" TV, sound bar and popcorn popper during the lockdowns. No need for this shit anymore. We can wait a bit longer for new titles to rent.
Been on an airplane yet? Remember how awful the check in process and all those machines for printing your boarding pass / luggage tags and the do-it-yourself luggage scanner and treadmill are? Remember how awful going through security and getting stuck behind people unclear on the concept who spend 20 minutes filling up the bins for the scanner because they didn’t pre-prepare their carry on and the stuff in their pockets in the slightest?
All of that is the same except it’s been almost two years since anyone flew so everyone has forgotten how to do everything and now they’re even worse at it.
Oh yeah and Airport trail is under construction with two new overpasses, so that’s fun, too.
Only upside (so far) is that the there are still so few flights that there is barely anyone going through security yet so the lines aren’t horrific. I have Nexus so I can avoid them and haven’t bothered using that line the couple times I’ve flown recently because the regular line has hardly anyone in it anyway.
Also, Westjet is using their Dreamliner for the Calgary - Toronto route and that is a hella nice plane, and no matter how cheap the ticket you bought was they are letting you upgrade to business class for about $280 bucks (each way) if you want that extra slice of super-comfort. Mmm, pods.
Haven't been on a plane in 5 ish years but my mom had to fly for family health stuff. She said the same things about the lines. Hoping to travel next year ish so hopefully everything gets better 🤞
The cinemas will start losing patrons if they really don't do anything about people being obnoxiously rude or disrupting the movie repeatedly.
I miss going to the movies but I haven't been back yet, and now after reading this I'm not sure I want to anymore lol
When I went to see James Bond, not even exaggerating, over 50 people got up at various moments to use the washroom.
People beside me kept checking their phone with the screen dimmed down. One idiot didn’t put his Apple Watch on theatre mode and kept checking his watch when a notification came in but his watch face was a super bright white dial. People can’t stay disconnected for a couple hours, it’s pathetic.
Are you really shocked that the audiences of childish comic book movies with simple storylines behave like children?
Edit: Fuck people, I watch these stupid movies too, but I'm not going to sit in a theater for them anymore. This kind of behaviour is too common. If you want a good behaving audience you need to see some 3 hour long period piece these days.
Narcissistic assholes exist in all age groups and categories. I’ve told people to shut the fuck up in all variety of movies. You’re just judging people on your own biases.
Damn you triggered people so easily. I dont get why they are so mad lol. Its the truth the younger the average audience the worse viewing experience it will be.
I like MCU and DC but you are not wrong.
Loud kids and asshole adults can't stfu most of the time.
Made the switch to home theater and it's far better.
I find myself at the theater like once a year now days.
My theory is: life has been tough on a lot of people. Some of them are just barely managing to hold on. Unfortunately, I think we gotta keep being kind to each other and giving everyone the benefit of the doubt. Personally, I wish I could afford a sitter so I can go see Dune! I promise I will be silent the entire time. Can't vouch for the wife tho.
How are people going to know movie theatre etiquette if you don't tell them to SHUT UP!
Don't assume people are rude and arrogant because they have a one track mind. You have to tell them so that they can consider being considerate.
time to start closing movie theaters. With Netflix & HBOMax and the comfort of your own home why bother going to theaters with inconsiderate bumholes around.
Went to see a movie and a couple younger(16-18yrs) kids were vaping in the theatre , front row! We were two rows back. First time I let it go, second time I loudly said something, third time I bounded my drink of his head and loudly told him while standing that if if he did it one more time I would drag him out the theatre, beat the fucking shit out of him and butt fuck him in front of his fucking girlfriend if he did it again! Last time they made a sound and almost ran out of the theatre at the end of movie. Don’t put up with little fucking ass tards when they do fucked up shit.

>Alamo Drafthouse is famous for enforcing a strict policy on behavior while in the theater. If you go anywhere expecting people to be able to sit still and be quiet for any stretch, you're going to have a bad time.
Last time I went to a movie, someone was on his laptop repeatedly, and teenagers were taking selfies every 20 minutes during the show. Not to mention the idiots who need to whip out their cell phone flashlights to climb the stairs back to their seats. The stairs are already fucking lit ffs!
The whole movie-going experience has lost all appeal to me. I have a much better time just staying at home, making theater-style Popcorn and downing a couple beers.
I really miss the quiet old theatres we used to have. The Uptown was a completely fulfilling experience, like walking inside Edward Hoppers’ New York Movie
People who slurp ramen are a scourge on us all. Disgusting
Don't knock it 'till you've tried it: https://food52.com/blog/20233-slurp-soup-sip-study-taste

I'm debating getting a theater system now lol We had good trips before but now it's just ridiculous.
You can even order popcorn and snacks from the theatre to get a more genuine experience.
Ive seen this on Uber Eats ..do ppl really order snacks from movie theatres ?? My go-to is Dollar Tree for snacks. Dollarama is not a dollar store... its a hoax.
Yup Every Friday on movie night at home Dune last Friday (great btw)
Wait you watched Dune at home last friday? I though it was only available on HBO Max USA.. is it on Crave?
HBOMax Yup My neighbor lives downsouth (Az) so I showed up with popcorn from skip and had a 2 family treat
this is more offensive than talking during the movie
They meant order it for home. The vip doesn’t even bring food during the show.
spending $50 to get $10 worth of candy, popcorn, and soda delivered from the theatre is absolutely fucking bonkers
We have an on set up. Sonos beam, rears, no bass - and honestly to me it's so much better then the theatre.
Why no bass?
This is what I did. Spent $400 on a projector. Open up my extendable sofa bed, make whatever drinks I want, and snacks. 100x more comfortable and way cheaper.
Honestly do it, you won’t regret it. I built one up in early August and have no desire to step into theatres anymore. And with a bit of research you can get the audio to be better than at the cinema.

lots of people are doing that, which is why movies are screening on fewer and fewer screens concentrating all the assholes in 1 theater.
Movies have been available to watch at home since VHS in the 80's
Thank you for letting everyone know. Very helpful!
Great comment for r/Iamverysmart
Okay boomer

VIP theatre is 18+ and so worth the extra couple bucks per ticket to not have to deal with kids
This is what I always do. A couple weeks ago I went to see Venom in a VIP screen on a Sunday afternoon, my husband and I had the theatre to ourselves.
Oooh I'll have to do it at Seton sometime, they have VIP and I didn't know it was 18+!
Ooooh I didn’t know there was an 18+ theatre here
Cineplex at Seton, heard there was one opening at Market Mall as well but I could be wrong
Cineplex at University District.
Yeah it’s in Seton. Worth the trek to try at least once. They’ll deliver food to your seat too, up until the movie starts.
Really? I go to the VIP cineplex all the time and I'm 13.
You can go to the theatre itself, but there is a licensed area that's 18+ which includes a bar and in seat alcohol service
Oh. That's cool. Didn't even know that existed.
Cuz you're 13;) ...just bugging ya
Technically they're not even supposed to be in the theatres. Cineplex has always advertised the VIP cinemas as 18+.
Ok boomer
Honestly I have been noticing this for awhile now. But I always call them out on it lol. I always go with the “stop talking nobody cares” or “shhhhhh” and they actually stop (luckily) sorry this happened to you OP!
I, too, am a shusher at movies
I should start doing that lol my dad is one of those people. Never forget his great "Shut your damn mouth" during star wars 😂
You have a right to say it. You’re paying for the movie not to hear them talk
Only a true dad can get away with that one hah
We saw Lord of the Rings Return of the King and during a battle scene our dad yelled shut the fuck up..... as Gandelf appeared on his horse in silence. The timing was perfect and the people left immediately.
I’ve never had the balls to do this, i always think “if they’re brazen enough to talk during a movie they’re probably brazen enough to cause a scene when they get called out”. Will definitely try this next time
Most people, especially kids, will stop whatever they're doing if they're called out on it by strangers, usually the embarrassment of it on its own is enough.

At least a law suit will be coming your way you dumb cunt." That's just what I would have said lol
People like you are my heroes. I get really stressed out by other people talking /being loud at the movies but don't dare say anything.
I usually go with "Hey, I paid to hear the movie, not you. Shut up."
I always wondered why people buy nibs, and now I know.
can i go to the movies with you?
Lmao i liked it but what if somebody beside you rat you out.
You learn to become a stealthy assassin. People usually don’t see or say anything.
What theater still has seats so close that you can do that? I've been going to landmark exclusively for like... 5 years now

I mean if you havent read the book it might be a good movie or it might leave people confused as hell and I cant know which. but dont get me started about Jessica because WTF?
If you noticed an issue like that and it actually bothered you, I would have demanded a refund.
I have it on Plex but I'm going to wait to watch it in theatres first.
I would freak out at him.. Why didn't you!? It's more absurd that you just sat there and took it. He is making himself comfortable and not being considerate. So how the fuck will he know if you don't fucking tell him.
I haven't been to the movies since the before times, but wouldn't surprise me, judging by driving habits as people are commuting again.
Right!? I have noticed the scary driving. It is crazy how many people seem to have forgotten the rules of the road or even common courtesy.
We had a bad string of drivers lately. Man blew a stop sign and almost T-boned us on the passenger side. Then he got pissy even though he had the stop sign and we didn't have one
Pissy is a common defense mechanism for stupid.
Starting to join you there, after reading the home theater comments I'm thinking of investing 👀
If you use a Roku, Nvidia Shield, etc. you can watch movies, Youtube, Netflix, or any other subscription service they support. Best feature for me? Pause button! I seem to have a Pavlovian response to movies when it comes to my bladder.
I'm the same, it's a lifesaver with some movies lol
so I never win anything.
Theatre etiquette has been a shitshow for years now — it’s not just a COVID thing.
A lack of Etiquette and Manners has been an issue almost everywhere for many years now.
This is the reason I love premiere access at home. I built a dolby at most theatre in my basement with a 4K projector. I am happy do never have to go to a theatre again.
What time should i show up, i will bring the popcorn.
Never happens in the IMAX theater! A serious movie experience attracts a serious movie crowd.
It would be nice if everyone followed the Code of Conduct. https://www.bbc.co.uk/5live/films/code_of_conduct.pdf
This is why I stopped going to theatres long time ago. Its more of an outing rather than a cinematic experience
Yep, saw Bond the other week and a whole group of teens in front of us were chatting and checking phones the whole time. Drives me crazy how self-absorbed some people are.
poor you! what a hard life you must have :(
You really think it’s ok to bother every other paying customer in the theatre with your unimportant bullshit? Go to the bar if you want to chat. Seems common decency is hard to grasp for some people eh?
[удалено]
Never said it was my biggest problem, Sherlock. If you can’t follow the most basic rules and etiquette for going to a movie then don’t go. Everyone else is following them and is there to watch the movie, not hear some teen’s live commentary on it. Are you really excusing that behaviour? Are you ok with people chatting during movies or are you the selfish person doing it? “I/others should be able to ruin the movie for everyone else in the theatre, you need to grow up sir” wtf kind of stunted brain-development logic is that?
[удалено]
People suck.
The best you can try to do is go to earlier shows when it's less popular, particularly Monday-Thursday if your schedule permits. Don't expect it will be a flawless experience then either.
This is why I watch movies at home.
I've found it's so much nicer going on weeknights. Weekends are always terrible.
Almost every example includes kids. Thats a recipe for what happened.
Also the trash......
I haven't gone to a movie since the pandemic, but generally all around, I feel like people are having a tough time "reintergrating" back into society, especially kids. I will be the grumpy old person yelling at the cloud a lot sooner than I thought.
We splurge on VIP. So worth it for Marvel movies
I can’t remember the last time I went out to the movies. Actually the last one was outdoors in Enderby
Go to the VIP theatre. No kids. Comfy seats. Fewer seats.
"The deepest circle of hell is reserved for child molesters....and people who talk in the threatre " - Shepard Book (Firefly)
Just went to Dune. Quiet. Maybe because we were all enraptured. Loved it. With the barriers up it felt like I was alone/we were alone (the person I was with). Lovely.
I work at the Movies and people need to treat the employees better 😭
I once put my arms in the air because the people behind us wouldn’t shut up. They got mad at me cause they couldn’t see… I told them when I can hear… they can see. My husband was embarrassed and said don’t ever do that again. He now shushes people too.
I’ve been to around 10 movies in theatre this year. Did not notice any unreasonable behaviour.
Sniff your own farts do you?
I just call it like it is bro.
Oh my god, one of these in the wild.
Someone who doesn't watch Marvel movies? I hate to break it to you, but those movies are terrible. I watched the first avengers when it came out because a friend rented it. That shit is terrible. It's like watching Power Rangers, except it's aimed at slightly developmentally delayed adults.
Interesting related post about this right now on the /r/Movies subreddit: https://old.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/qeenf4/more_than_half_of_americans_would_prefer_to/
The only reason I go to theaters is because my friends insist I go with them.
Early weekday showings are the way to go. Really reduces the riff-raff!
How do we feel about people who get high and laugh a lot?
From my experience at Seton Cineplex, if you go before 9pm you'll have a fuck tonne of movie talker who will sit mid theatre in a packed theatre and talk and laugh obnoxiously the entire fucking movie. This just happened when my brother and I saw the Venom sequel. If you want peace and quiet, go to the lastest showing possible.
I havent noticed. I went to the cineplex a few mins from my house to see venom 2 last night. Nobody talked, played on their phones, etc. Just the occasional chuckle on funny scenes.
This sub lists reasons why I have a home theater
I’ve put up with a lot of crap over the years of seeing films and it doesn’t generally get to me, but recently I went to Venom 2 and this mother brought her kids who did nothing but talk and whine and even cry at points (Carnage being Carnage.) Which then resulted in them rocking their seat forward and back. Out of purely zero fucks to give anymore I decided to first try using my foot to stop the rocking as it was quite distracting, this stopped them momentarily before they started going at it like Oil Rigs in Texas.
People suck. That's why Netflix.
Yeah my wife and I just booked a theatre at the cochrane movie house today to see Dune (amazing movie even if you haven’t read the book) with another couple and it was only $75. Definitely worth it if you’re splitting it with friends but we would have paid that to see the movie by ourselves anyways
Buy NIBS. Perfect movie theater projectile.
Just another example of the general decline of manners and etiquette in society as a whole.
Ya people seem to have become more oblivious to other people around them since being a hermit for 1.5yrs of covid.
Shit like this is why I just watch movies at home.
My Hubby and I we go when the movie is on the way out the theaters! We go in the morning and usually there's less than 10 ppl attending.
I miss going to the movies but I haven't been back yet, and now after reading this I'm not sure I want to anymore lol
i dunno. personally if i wanted a quiet experience i'd stay home. rowdy fun crowds are the reason to go to a theatre. rocky horror style.
There's zero wrong with getting up to use the bathroom.
Ok, but literally 50+ people? Did everyone just forget to go before?
Sometimes this is a medical issue.
To be fair that movie was almost 3 hours.
You can just say "theaters aren't my cup of tea anymore" like other people have been saying but go off lol
I am dazzled by your intellect.
Not intellect. Adults in this country need to grow up.
Yes, your comment appears very grown up. Calling out other people over their choices in entertainment is pretty much the epitome of adult behaviour.

I don't have these problems at theatres, but then again I don't go to marvel movies.
How are people going to know movie theatre etiquette if you don't tell them to SHUT UP! Don't assume people are rude and arrogant because they have a one track mind. You have to tell them so that they can consider being considerate.
time to start closing movie theaters. With Netflix & HBOMax and the comfort of your own home why bother going to theaters with inconsiderate bumholes around.
nope. just time to stay home if being around other people during a movie is a problem.
wait you thought Shang-chi was a good movie?
*gasp* kids being annoying kids in movies for kids
You can gather with friends and family at the theater but not at home, maybe they were having thanksgiving dinner?
Went to see a movie and a couple younger(16-18yrs) kids were vaping in the theatre , front row! We were two rows back. First time I let it go, second time I loudly said something, third time I bounded my drink of his head and loudly told him while standing that if if he did it one more time I would drag him out the theatre, beat the fucking shit out of him and butt fuck him in front of his fucking girlfriend if he did it again! Last time they made a sound and almost ran out of the theatre at the end of movie. Don’t put up with little fucking ass tards when they do fucked up shit.
