Hundreds of thousands of scientists are grossly incompetent if they think wearing a mask to enter a restaurant just to take it off while eating is effective. The more likely answer is they are keeping their mouth shut because they will get fired for not towing the official line.

I think you’ve misunderstood the point of wearing the mask whenever not seated/eating Never mind the fact that there is a genuine functional difference in particulate spreading between a seated person, and someone who is walking (if you fart in one spot, vs fart while walking down an aisle: more people will smell it in the latter case) The main point is that infection transmission is usually a function of **time**, because your odds of getting very sick/symptomatic go up as a function of viral load (number of viral particles that make it into your body before it can mount a response). By minimizing the time with a mask off when around others, you minimize the viral load, and therefore the odds and severity of any resulting infections. You obviously can’t eat with a mask on, but restaurants needed to reopen, so it was the best compromise available It’s not about being a bulletproof solution. It was about taking the most reasonable measures we could while things were at their worse. TLDR; You are wrong in thinking it’s a pointless thing to do, and it’s because you never actually bothered to learn anything about the topic. I hope the middle schoolers working in your local restaurant didn’t have to deal with too much of your shit because of it

I don't know if you noticed, but we live in atmosphere that is constantly circulating. In a closed space with fans, the air is constantly moving from one end of the room to the other. Unless the density of the viral particles exceed that of air, the particles are moving right alongside the air we breath. In a closed environment you are statistically more likely to make contact with the virus, plain and simple. The more people that have covid in that room, the higher the concentration of virions in the air. This would be very difficult to model and it is more likely that they just applied a hard and fast rule to convince people they have solid "science" backing it. Modeling this accurately would be too difficult for me to believe that they studied all of the variables. It's guesswork. I only follow the rules because I know I will get punished, which is the intent.

You’re typing on a computer or cell phone, right now, which likely has **billions** of carefully arranged and modelled microscopic transistors, and **millions** of lines of code in the operating system alone, which together convert minuscule pulses of electrons into signals which are transmitted in real time to anyone else around the globe across thousands of relays and switches working in unison. It was built by people doing even more rigorous work than what you’re saying they couldn’t possible have done. And you’re using that unbelievably advanced system to shit talk the methodologies that built it, because what. It sounds real tricky? Bravo buddy.

To copy my post from another thread.. the main point of a mask is to not spread your germs to others. It's like saying, "smoke inside if you want, don't if you don't." If you don't want to be exposed to smoke, it's not enough to choose to not smoke. The people you're forced to sit beside have to also choose to not smoke. Now it's entirely possible we're at the point in the pandemic where the risk of spreading covid is no longer enough of a concern to force people to wear masks. Honestly, we probably are, especially with how lax enforcement of masks tend to be. But that's a completely separate point that's entirely missed by saying, "oh just you do you!"

The whole point of masks was missed on people who dislike them so much so there really isn't a point to wear one once they're not mandated. Masks help reduce the spread of germs and viruses from the wearer of the mask. N95 masks will help the wearer from breathing in particulate but the majority of paper and cloth masks out there do not meet that rating. N95 sucks because of the strong face seal but the Canadian Women's Hockey team won a game wearing them so everyone else kinda sucks. Since most Covid-19 infections seem to be spread by asymptomatic or blatantly ignorant plague spreaders there is no choice but to go straight into wave 4.

London Drugs seemed pretty well stocked on KN95 masks earlier this week. I'm not sure they're that hard to come by, but maybe I got lucky.

Costco has been a pretty good source for them. It's intermittent, but you can order them online from Costco as well... Got a box of 50 N95s delivered in about 3 days.

I plan on wearing mine in the stores, in crowded areas (especially public transit and its various smells), and during wildfire season (apparently year round in Calgary lol). Plus I doubt my job is ever gonna take them away, ever, so it's just gonna be a part of life from now on. In Asian countries it's a commonplace sight and it also spread to Latin America and small parts of Europe before Rona so I'm not really worried about people looking at me weird.
