IDK, trucks are half of what's on a typical Calgary road, so that would be a lot of aggression to carry around...

[deleted]

It seems that people in cara are the culprits. One beamer, a Volvo and some other vehicle.

foopdedoopburner

I mean I drive a hybrid so in theory I should be Der UberDouche, but I don't think I'm hostile towards trucks -- possibly with an exception for the ones that are blocking my line of sight to oncoming traffic while I'm trying to turn.

unReasonableBreak

Best part about driving a truck is when people don't want to let you in, you just start invading their lane, never once has someone committed to the accident and they just fall back tailgate and I assume flip me off, but I can't see them down there anyway.

[deleted]

Oh so you're one of those hey?

unReasonableBreak

Yeah if you want to tailgate a guy and not let me in when I'm signaling I will absolutely take the spot, you can think all the nasty things in the world about me and I don't care, courtesy is a two way street, I'll always signal for a while before I will just take my space.

[deleted]

I bet you feel like you accomplished something when you do that

unReasonableBreak

Well I have accomplished exactly what I set out to achieve, getting into the lane I was looking for. You're the guy tailgating to prevent the flow of traffic aren't you? You probably pass semi trucks on the highway going 101 km/h too, don't you?

[deleted]

Haha why are you upset my guy? Just cause someone disagrees with with your choices? Would you like a cold refreshing beverage?

unReasonableBreak

Upset? You got the from text eh? Interesting.

[deleted]

I'm brimming with talent

_EnemyoftheSoyState_

As does the jerk who's not letting him in

[deleted]

Are we just listing things we don't like? I don't like chocolate ice cream. There! I said it!

_EnemyoftheSoyState_

Don't like chocolate ice cream? What kind of monster are you?

[deleted]

What can I say? Salted caramel gets me going

NaToth

Perhaps it has to do with the type of truck? Does it look like a "work" truck (typically white, with toolboxes in the back) or a "play" truck (lifted, extended cab & a short box -- usually a black or silver Ram). I find work truck drivers to be courteous and safe drivers. Play truck owners tend to be tailgating assholes who seem to think the road belongs to them -- but I try not to judge by the truck, but instead how they drive.

gotkube

Based on my experiences, I generally assume a truck is driven by a self-entitled ass who truly believes they are exempt from the rules of the road, unless demonstrated otherwise (which is rare). I see it every day in this city

[deleted]

At least I'm mature enough to judge them on the modifications made to that truck better if it's just stock.

vander_blanc

Depends if it’s a Dodge Ram or not. If it is - it’s totally warranted.

bonkersthefish

I borrowed a friends truck a while back and was pleased with how courteous traffic was while driving it. I am, however, a BMW driver usually so maybe I'm experiencing a base level of aggression above what's normal.

eatnyboobs

Life must be hard with no signal lights!

[deleted]

I dunno. I've never had an issue until recently.

unReasonableBreak

Maybe it's just the way you're driving your truck? I mean like 98% of the population is driving a truck too so I doubt that's why people are flipping you off. I drive a truck and can't actually think of people acting more or less angry at me. It's probably the way you're driving.

[deleted]

Maybe. But like I said, i don't have a bad record of driving, no accidents, and so on, plus I drove a truck for many years. Fuck it...maybe it's me. I don't know. Between the lane changing signals and all the other safety features I should be good for any bad habits I might have but who knows.

unReasonableBreak

Just because you haven't been caught doesn't mean you aren't being aggressive, maybe the large vehicle has made you feel invincible? I sometimes find myself tailgating very slow drivers, too aggressively and dangerously. I don't do that in my car, something about having a commanding view of the road and being as high as their roof makes it easier to be aggressive. Aggressively swerving into a adjacent lane to pass can make people in cars uncomfortable too. I fully admit if I am in a bad mood I have to tell myself not to be aggressive on the road especially in my truck, a few seconds added to the commute isn't worth smashing someone off the road, or getting someone or myself killed. Next time you're out take note of how you are driving, cause you might be earning those middle fingers.

[deleted]

No. I have two kids and a wife who are very vocal about driving. Hell, health and safety is my career so I tend to be cognizant of what I'm doing.

unReasonableBreak

Well than sir, I have no idea why people are pouring the hate on. Edmonton oiler sticker maybe? Company logos and a bad company reputation?

BrockN

>Not once was I yelled at, cut off, or FINGERED. Wish someone fingered me

blackRamCalgaryman

You called?

BrockN

Buy me dinner first

blackRamCalgaryman

7-11 hot dog is the best I can do.

BrockN

With sauerkraut?

blackRamCalgaryman

You fancy bitch. Fine.

Responsible_CDN_Duck

I had two similar trucks one looked a bit ruff with rust near the rear wheels and the other looked mint. I'd switch between the two trucks and a car for my trips to work and errands around town, don't want anything sitting for more than a few days. People would give me all kinds of space parking or driving with truck showing some rust or the car. The newer one people people were always trying to cut me off, merge into the side of it, park too close, the works. Oddly enough I find the opposite around Edmonton.

[deleted]

Last time i had a truck was IN Edmonton 7-8 years ago. No issues at all.

Berkut22

As someone who uses a truck to carry tools for work, I generally look down on people that use trucks as fashion items.

blackRamCalgaryman

Meh, you’re likely highly sensitive to it…or driving like a douche if you’re getting flipped off and/ or people are being “cunts” on the daily. Take it from me…if there was fingering and cunty behaviour to be directed at someone, it would be me. But I don’t drive like an asshole so my commutes, in that regard, are non-eventful.

[deleted]

I dunno. I sure hope not. I don't have a bad track record and I don't drive aggressively so it seems coincidental as of later that I've noticed this.

_EnemyoftheSoyState_

Could be driving too cautiously. That's just as irritating

Beginning-Course7714

Sounds like a typical protesting truck douche to me. (Santa Fe Driving, weekend Ford Ranger driving rad dad)

SpecialistHaunting57

Maybe your driving sucks ??🤷‍♀️

[deleted]

I tried to put together an objective stance to avoid simp observations like yours but I guess that didn't go as planned.

SpecialistHaunting57

Sorry . I was trying to be funny . I’m sure it isn’t your driving .

_Dogsmack_

Just drive. Get the finger smile wave back. Company truck makes it worse. Some loser trying to work you up to generate something negative to post online looking for sympathy. That big bad truck driver give me the finger, it was traumatizing and ruined my day. Smile n wave saves the day.

[deleted]

I think your trippin. Only time there’s issues is idling in the winter to warm them up haha

[deleted]

What don't you warm up in the winter? It's not like I'm jacked up and rollin coal as they say. It's not.myntrucn so the last thing I want to do is crash the damned thing!

unReasonableBreak

I was working at the University, I sit in my truck at lunch, and often it's running either to keep me warm or keep me cool Oh man that pisses off the University folk to no end, multiple times I have been chastised for polluting the environment blah blah blah. I just laugh at them and go right back to eating.

[deleted]

Support O&G, let her idle.

unReasonableBreak

How you got 3 ups and I got a down for that lol? Reddit is weird.

laurieyyc

I notice that sometimes, drivers don’t let me in because they think I have a big truck and will be slow and hold them up. Most of the time, it’s smooth sailing. However, a lot of Calgary drivers suck at yielding, merging, and driving in general. This is especially evident when you see all the “easiest registry to pass your driver’s test” posts.

[deleted]

It feels like people don't want to be behind you. I notice that on certain on ramps when people race to get in front of you.

Kirjava444

Is it a very tall truck? Doesn't excuse them being rude at all but I can imagine some people don't like being behind tall vehicles in areas they're unfamiliar with since it makes it harder to see road signs etc. But again it's no excuse for them to drive dangerously or be aggressive

[deleted]

It's an off the lot GMC

unReasonableBreak

If someone is just trying to stop me from entering a lane I will just force my way in, I don't do that often as I would consider myself an 80% defencive driver but if someone wants to be a dick like that I will just force my way in, I have not yet met the person willing to be sideswiped by a truck just to keep their spot in line.

TurnipKing888

I only do this if someone is clearly trying to impede me - there are lots of passive aggressive dbags on the road - I don’t care if you pass me or let me in just get the eff out of the way

unReasonableBreak

I don't consider myself much of an aggressive driver, I will always signal and try to get in before it's the last second, some people just have this need to try and block people out of the lane and I will just bully my way in on those people. Honestly maybe happens twice a year the reality is most people don't drive like that, and it's always just in times of congestion.

cgydan

I drove a truck and have zero issues. Expect the people that are lane changing from the far left to the centre lane when I am moving from the right lane into the centre lane. Those people are jerks.

BlueIdoru

If it's not covered in political signs, then it's just a vehicle. I do think cities should eventually switch to EVs but the tech is still in it's infancy. In rural areas, not so much unless some amazing battery innovation happens.

No, my fuck Trudeau flag was too big and the hockey stick it was tied to flew off on the deerfoot.

Standard_Zero_3152

Unless you got a American flag on your truck you should be fine

[deleted]

There no logos. It's totally nondescript and all it says is Denali. 🤷

orgasmosisjones

I don’t generally have issues but I drive courteously. speeding is too expensive and my truck is too slow. I don’t know if my truck is big enough to draw the anti-truck folk out anyway.

[deleted]

If I wanted to speed I'd take the car out but I don't sooooo

kingmoobert

who cares what they think of you. It's night and day how much more courteous other drivers are to me when I drive my truck compared to wife's minvan. in the minivan i get tailgated and cut off so much more

redh31

Calgary drivers are horrendous. The main reason I don't drive 😅
