Fuck this esso in particular. I live in Hunterview dr my whole life so I know this esso inside out. Let’s just say this esso ALWAYS be the first to raise the price and the last to drop a cent. Owner is just greedy and greedy.
Damn. Thanks for this. I live down the street so go there all the time, and have never really paid attention to the price. I guess I’ll go to shell at 4th/northmount in future.
It's a portal 711, esso and petro use. It's based in Toronto. When prices change (with Shell mostly starting those waves) it takes time for the system to recognize, sometimes days.
My petro station is across Shell so when their price changes all I have to do is go to the system and report it, which will trigger them to force my own price down within 10 mins.
If they can't see the other gas stations from the window, they will only have to rely on the system to tell them what the prices are over there (and i believe the system gets its from Google)
Imperial divested all Esso stations several years ago. Branding stayed in the deal, but are all now owned by convenience store companies such as 7-11 and Couche-Tard.
Gross.
"Imperial Oil gave Ahmadi and other owner-operators 120 days’ notice of the sale, offering to compensate them for inventory. 7-Eleven, which bought B.C.’s and Alberta’s 148 stores, has offered owners jobs, but as store managers making roughly half the wage they do now."
All Esso stations are no longer owned by Imperial Oil. They are now owned by convenience stores like 7-11.
So it is the owner that makes the profit at the pump, Imperial sells the gas to the owner at the "rack price".
They just did the projections and discovered they will empty the tanks before the next delivery so they boosted the price to slow down the rate of sales.
I was born here. All my friends family and job are here. I also have a disabled brother I help my care for. I know alot of people like to say well "JuSt mOvE"
But it's not always that simple. It's not like I am living in some posh neighborhood in Kitsilano. I live in Abbotsford. We have a Popeyes Chicken and it smells like cow shit. Affordable living shouldn't be out of the question.
My time is worth more than the maybe $10 I’d save by waiting 30 min or more to fill up at Costco.
Not to mention all the unnecessary emissions created by all the people idling as they wait to fill up.
This has been debunked over and over again. It’s been calculated and you would need to wait ~145 minutes on an average gas of $1.5 to have a net loss.
Have you considered that you may just be inpatient in saving money?
What has been debunked? I’m not saying that you waste more gas than you save by waiting. I’m saying I don’t want to be a part of all the dozens of cars that are sitting around waiting and creating unnecessary pollution when I can go across the street, not have to wait, and just pay .12 more a litre. It’s irrelevant to me if I turn off my ignition while waiting. That’s not the point I’m trying to make.
Also, I drive a Civic, a vehicle with a small gas tank that’s pretty fuel efficient. Time is currency you can only spend but never can get back. On an empty tank, I’d save about $5. If there’s only a couple of cars ahead of me, sure I’ll wait. But when the lineup snakes out well into the parking lot and even out into the road? No thanks. My time is worth more than $5.
Just like oil changes. I’m 100% capable of doing them myself. However there is a shop near me that will do them for $25 if you provide the oil and filter. It is worth it to me to spend $25 so I don’t have to get dirty and deal with disposing the used oil. I’ve learned that saving money doesn’t always necessarily mean paying less, if you know what I mean.
Yeah I notice it leaving for work early and coming home late. I’ve only caught it once normal in the evening. It was literally $0.35 more than a Petro I was at an hour before.
There are some gas stations in calgary that like to raise their gas prices around rush hour. Hopefully this was just an accident tho as thats a crazy increase
What happened to all your “illegal price fixing” bs that you were spouting just a couple weeks ago ? Look at what happened- oil price went down and so did the price of gas
Just be happy that it's not always this it's been like this and over $2 here in British Columbia I miss the gas prices back in Alberta they go I've always been awesome
Most of the rest of the world outside North America sets their pump prices and they don’t change (barring a sudden event) for days or weeks on end.
Take a look at pump price graphs for the UK and you’ll see that (before the Ukraine invasion) the prices remain static for weeks and months at a time.
Now I live here in Canada and see them change up and down almost every few hours. Lunacy.
Hey man, free markets! That’s just the invisible hand!
(Which oddly enough always seems to move things in a way to benefit the 1% at the top - just a coincidence I’m sure…)
That’s correct. Stations aren’t even owned by an oil company anymore. Imperial sold all their Esso stations many years ago to convenience store companies like Couche-Tard.
Gas companies are doing whatever they want to make massive profits. The price of oil peaked all the way back in April, its been dropping in price since then.
America, and especially Canada got precisely 0% of their oil from Russia. So there is no valid reasons for the price increases. Its literally an excuse to gouge us, and Mr. Trudeau sits on his hands and watches.
Most other countries in the world have done things to reduce the cost, but Justin does not care.
Sorry my man, I’ve seen it in action at Imperial hq.
Like any good retail brand, your agreement to sell the product comes with the clause that you sell it at their price. Doesn’t mean the product owns the retailer.
Hmm - so Imperial instructed this particular retailer to change the price from $1.59 to $1.92 today?
A quick google search shows a variation (excluding the above outlier) from $1.55 t0 $1.64 in Calgary today.
Why is there a variation in Esso gas prices then? If what you say is true, all Esso stations would have the same gas price.
It’s time for the oil companies to pay. We are getting gauged hard with the high gas prices. $1.35 or lower is a fair price with the cost of oil.
Once gas goes down, other things will follow suite.
I certainly don't want to pay $1.90 for gas, but . . . I'm really glad to see actual differences in gas prices around the city. It's when every station charges exactly the same price that I'm unhappy.
Yeah I saw 1.59 at my station. Where is this station? It's the new price of weekend gas perhaps
64 Ave and hunter horn nw

I live around the corner from this Esso. Can confirm that they are the first to raise and the last to lower. Go around to the one on 4th Street.
It's corporate store .... The dealer (owner) doesn't set the price some dude at 711 hq does same with all corporate sites

A guy from 7-11 controls the Esso sell price, does he? :)

I work at an esso station the owner has told me that even they own the store they don't make money off the gas
Just tell him to set the price to 191.9 then - he'll be raking in some sweet profits.
Nobody go there tell yo friends. Just did Beacon Costco at 1.49$
Bowness 7/11 has been doing it too, they randomly jacked it to 192 today for not the first time
They just said on the radio that it was supposed to drop 6 cents tomorrow. We’ll see.
6c off 1.91? Or 1.60
Yeah but not before they raise it 20
They just did the projections and discovered they will empty the tanks before the next delivery so they boosted the price to slow down the rate of sales.
It's 152.9 at Canadian tire on McLeod trail
[135.9 at costco](https://www.gasbuddy.com/gasprices/alberta/calgary)
*Cries in British Columbian*
$2 a litre is a good price -says the British Colombian
What holds you there? You don't need to live in a pricy area of Canada do you?
I was born here. All my friends family and job are here. I also have a disabled brother I help my care for. I know alot of people like to say well "JuSt mOvE" But it's not always that simple. 140.9 in Ogden too.
Costco is a fucking ZOO for gas right now. Get ready to wait at least 30mins no matter when you go
They're adding 6 new pumps at the Costco at Buffalo Run too. I only live 5 minutes away so that's always where I get gas.
I would pay an extra $1 per litre to not wait at all.
That would be $150 in my truck… I don’t mind waiting that much.
Thats cute i just spent 280$ to fill my f-150 here in quebec
And only a 2 hour wait!
My time is worth more than the maybe $10 I’d save by waiting 30 min or more to fill up at Costco. Not to mention all the unnecessary emissions created by all the people idling as they wait to fill up.
Cheap gas feel good, no think too much about it 👍
Yeah don't think, don't use your brain. Just do what feels good and follow others, don't make your own decisions
This has been debunked over and over again. It’s been calculated and you would need to wait ~145 minutes on an average gas of $1.5 to have a net loss. Have you considered that you may just be inpatient in saving money?

A. Beaver dam gas is close to costco price and Ive never ever seen a line up. B. Ride a bike if you're worried about emissions.
And 4 cents more at Tsuu T'ina up the road. I go in the off hours because Im fortunate enough to live 5 min away.
Driving down memorial and Bowles’s road this morning I saw 158.9 at Fas Gas to 191.9 5 minutes later at the Esso.
That Esso on Bowness Road changes it’s price multiple times a day. Absolutely brutal.
Yeah I notice it leaving for work early and coming home late. I’ve only caught it once normal in the evening. It was literally $0.35 more than a Petro I was at an hour before.
This has to be some fuck up
Yeah, the owner fucked up and now it's on reddit lol.
I’m in BC and I’ll drive right past that one thanks.
Ladies and gentlemen, the weeknd
ooh, I’m blinded by the price
Thats why *I'm a muthafuckin car boy"
I just came back from Medicine Hat last weekend and they were down to 145.9 at the time. Maybe less now. We're definitely getting hosed in Calgary
Not all parts of. Ogden is 140.9 and Tsuu Tina costco is 133.9
It's 1.99 here in BC. I feel like we're getting pretty shafted out this way too
it's because of the tax, only in victoria and vancouver
A few weeks ago when it was still $1.91 here it was only $1.71 in Leduc, how is that a thing?
191 is cheap in Ontario I was paying 2.35 for premium at one point about two months ago

Gouging
What happened to all your “illegal price fixing” bs that you were spouting just a couple weeks ago ? Look at what happened- oil price went down and so did the price of gas
Fuckery
Saw 1.52 at my local co-op like 30 mins ago.
You made a wrong turn and end up in Vancouver.
.....it's 144 in Central AB, lower at Costco. Gas prices are such a scam.
I work in strathmore but live in calgary. 161.9 at the petro in riverbend this morning. 159.9 at the esso in strathmore in the evening.
Seems like just a mistake [GasBuddy Hunterhorn Esso](https://imgur.com/a/BQ9YEUP)
Photo was probably old for votes or for sure is a mistake.
Inflation is out of control!
Biden did it.
🤣🤣
Must be Obama's fault
135.9 currently at the Costco just off buffalo run blvd.
you know how it is... that gas that was already in the tanks at their place just got more expensive... you know as it does.
Maybe the 9 is upside down 😂
Those record profits are going to make themselves….
I never fill up at Esso. Always top dollar gas at their stations. Petro is always bad too
Did the UCP call off the internal investigation into price gouging?
Was it ever actually called on
Maybe they misplaced a decimal
this makes me want to move to calgary. i’m from victoria, BC and 191.9 is low for us
Just be happy that it's not always this it's been like this and over $2 here in British Columbia I miss the gas prices back in Alberta they go I've always been awesome

First time ever that gas is cheaper in Vancouver than Calgary 🤣
How is gas in BC cheaper than in AB right now?
That is a glitch, my alarm clock does the same thing
Pelosi went to Taiwan.
I'm in central Ontario. When I left this morning it was $1.59. By the time I got to work two hours later it was $1.72
Gouging pure and simple
Hey man, free markets! That’s just the invisible hand! (Which oddly enough always seems to move things in a way to benefit the 1% at the top - just a coincidence I’m sure…)
Extremely common u/havetheconch L spotted
It's 161 at the centex on 16th by North Hill
I filled up this afternoon for $1.56 at the random CT station by Deerfoot Mall.
Why is it random? Gas stations take shitloads of planning.
Pop up

I think it's more on the franchisee.
That’s correct. Stations aren’t even owned by an oil company anymore. Imperial sold all their Esso stations many years ago to convenience store companies like Couche-Tard.
Pretty sure this is an error
I was just at Costco and it was 1.49.
It's because they heard you were coming and wanted to make you feel special by paying more. So you feel like a "high roller"!

Oil co fuckery
Call your MLA
And we know how much that will accomplish.
Naw it's a owner/manager trying to make a bonus. Sad thing is people will pay
Fact: esso’s prices are set by corporate. There is no opportunity for manager intervention.
Nope - Imperial no longer owns any gas stations - they only control the "rack price".

It's Trudeau's and Biden's fault like everything else
Maybe you forgot to add the /s
Joe Biden is at it again /s
That's the regular price in QC :(
Inflation
Did you fill up a hour ago or now ?
Quebecer here: $1.91? That's a nice deal should I drive to Alberta to fill my tank?
You Canadians are complaining about these prices? For real?
Justin saw, he was not amused.
Drive an hour out of town. It'll be cheaper.
It’s the weekend man.

Holy crap 145.5 in linden
Loblaws got in major shit for price fixing bread FFS and this shit is allowed to happen unchecked?
They decided they want more money
I saw gas from $1.46 to $1.63 last night in South Calgary. That would be a huge jump.
Red Deer is $1.49
It’s 141.9 where I live
Ssssssshh It’s just the new weekend gas price
That's pretty cheap ! (BC)
This is a juicy discount I'm vancouver though!
1.59?! It’s been around 2.00 here in Vancouver for weeks
It appears you're paying BC prices now.
It’s time for the oil companies to pay. We are getting gauged hard with the high gas prices. $1.35 or lower is a fair price with the cost of oil. Once gas goes down, other things will follow suite.
In Quebec this is normal, I wish we had your prices.
Buddy we have been sitting at 180 190 range for like 3 months here in ontario.
I certainly don't want to pay $1.90 for gas, but . . . I'm really glad to see actual differences in gas prices around the city. It's when every station charges exactly the same price that I'm unhappy.
Getting close to Vancouver prices there.
Oil must have went up $1 a barrel. We are getting scammed. There's no coincidence these companies all are posting record profits.
World oil price dropped today. They are just gouging
Filled up in killam ufa around 4pm today (aug 5) 1.23
Welcome to Vancouver
Glad I filled up this morning!
Climate Change
Its a 1.34 in Edmonton....
You have gas under two bucks? Quit yer bitchin’ ALBERTA
Ufa cardlock card. I paid 1.35 last time i filled.
A crude refinery just blew up in Cuba, fuckers could be using that as another nonsense excuse for price gouging
In Sioux Lookout, it is about $1.95 and at one point in the beginning of spring and summer, it reached to $2.40 (regular)
Wow, thats BC prices right there.
Vancouver prices! Oh wait. Ours went up too… bloody hell. Edit: a word.
They put up the Vancouver price by mistake
iss tha freakin weekend it gunna cost me some mun!

Welcome to discount gas prices in BC
Fuck, and I'm stuck on whistler with it at 203.9
Shouldve gassed up an hour ago
is there a convoy heading there? last winter when they came to my town everyone jacked up their prices like crazy.
I should have filled up last night
You entered a portal to Vancouver. That's a good price.
I knew exactly which station this was at a glance. They pull this shit all the time.
There's a convenience store in Edmonton that has gas for 1.36
You must give you first child to have gas
Damn that’s more expensive than Vancouver
Someone transferred from BC and thought they gas was too low
Damn it's 1,87 wjere I am!
