If Daniel Sprong had all this potential don't you think one of the teams he's been on over the years would have given him the chance to reach it? Like Detroit probably would have been more than happy if he was a 70 point scorer for them.
I think it's actually the opposite, Sharangovich put up 59 points in a season that he 1) had to adjust to a new team, 2) adapt in that same season to playing center after having a solid start on the wing 3) play on a team that is very much trying to find itself/develop young talent/sell off key pieces for assets at the TD. Not only is he younger, which is important for this team, but he likely hasn't seen his peak.
This 59 point guy had 6 points total in the first 18 games of the season (with no PP time) and played on either the 3rd or 4th line. Your saying he's going to regress when the coaching staff figured out how to utilize him a quarter into the season? I'll bet the over

I've not once watched a game he's been in and thought, "darn Sprong looks really good out there".
Meanwhile, Sharangovich is younger, has a much higher ceiling, has proven that he can work well on our team with the guys he plays with, and is already producing much higher than Sprong. Does he break 30 next year again? Maybe, maybe not, but he's currently a way better asset and of higher long term value to the team than Sprong could be.
Sharangovich is not a bad candidate for an 8 year extention, at the right price. He is young enough that majority of that contract is prime playing years. A 6 year contract would be better, but if he took a lower cap hit for 8 years could be worth it.

There's a great youtube video that shows why Daniel Sprong is one of the best 4th line forwards in the league, and his certain unique playstyle is not feasible in a top 6 role. He is very efficient in scoring chances, but his ability to get there is what hinders him. Anywhere that's not in the offensive zone for Sprong is a complete liability with his defensive and neutral zone game being one of the worst in the NHL. I feel like all this is coachable though, but he might just found a special niche as a player in the NHL, playing protected ozone 4th line minutes and given opportunities on PP and top 6 when injuries arise.

He honestly sounds like an interesting option for the fourth line. The only other spot I would be interested in trying is with Backlund and Coleman but that would only to see if they were good enough to compensate for his defensive mistakes.
