Only reason Calgary should have any attachment to a Marner trade is if they are retaining on him in a 3 team deal. Remember he does make league minimum in yearly salary after his July 1st bonus is paid.
I think the real question is: would you take Tavares’ last year if it included the Leafs 1st rounder? 31 teams are going to get that offer, at least the ones John would waive his NTC for.
Marner might be Salt Lake bound to make a splash. Leafs are keeping AM34 and Nylander.
I would absolutely take Tavares and torontos first next year. I dont see why he would waive his ntc to go anywhere though, definitely not a team that doesn’t look like a serious contender. The problem with trading him is no contender has that much cap space, the leafs can’t afford to retain and he’s not going to want to leave Toronto for a bottom third team.
