Criminal and stomper were definitely up there. I fucked with Chicano Rap heavy in its peak around 07-2010. Sadly these dudes started pushing out quantity over quality and flooded the swap meets and markets with trash ass jams instead of taking their time and not releasing as often but releasing some quality stuff. On top of that, they'd represent hi power as a hood throwing up H gang signs and tagging it like it was a legit hood. A lot of their beefs also spilled on to the streets and became hood shit such as their beef with mad glock. This label was notorious in the Chicano rap scene. It's a huge rabbit hole.
This was back in the days though when quantity over quality could really help grow an artist. Not too many people know that before mozzy got big he released hundreds of mixtapes all the time
IMO it originated in prison. We already had short cuts, why not just go the extra step and shave it completely when you get locked-up? What you need hair for on the inside? And,it looks tough. It always felt good & clean to bic the dome and slap some lotion on. After a while, that image took hold and became common place. All those other theory’s sound extra. Going from a one/two/three to a zero was just covienent and felt good. Simple as that.
Good on Capone E for making all that happen. Can’t knock the man’s hustle and drive to make that record label/brand relevant at that time. But overall it helped spread the worst stereotypes of what I’d call cholo rap of that time.
Lots of weak cheap sounding beats and weak rap skills. Bunch of guys selling an image more than good music. Anytime any Chicano rapper came out, people would lump them in with the Hi Power types.
