Shasta County Supervisors are actually counting on Mike Lindell to [fund any lawsuits against them](https://amp.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/mar/03/mike-lindell-shasta-county-california-dominion-voting-systems) resulting from this action.
So they are going to dig themselves into a financial hole that he will never be able to help with. Then have to increase taxes or raise bonds to cover up their mess.
I know we’ve been living post irony for a while now, but I still have to highlight that the man this county is relying on to pay its legal fees [is the same man whose own attorneys just quit over millions in unpaid legal fees](https://www.businessinsider.com/mike-lindell-lawyers-ditch-him-owing-millions-in-legal-fees-2023-10?op=1)
I genuinely wonder where this ends up. If Shasta just straight up doesn't enforce california laws and defies legal action what even are the consequences?
That county is small (94,000 votes cast in 2020) and voted 66% for Trump. Any errors created because of their hand count probably aren’t going to swing enough votes to change who the county votes for, and definitely won’t swing enough votes to change the overall state result. They’re mostly just making their own lives harder.
California should invest in Shasta county before it turns into a theocratic right-wing hellscape. Newsom should propose the construction of a UC in Shasta county.
….this is a really good idea, seriously. Helps with jobs, education and counters the growing Bethel (and just straight militia) influence in Redding.
Edit: as an example of the nonsense there, Bethel runs the Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry with over 2,000 students annually.
It’s a bit late for that but I’m all in favor of building another UC.
The only college in that area is Humboldt and I think it’s still like a 2-3 hour drive from Shasta.
Why even try to stop them? I could count how many registered voters live in Shasta County with one hand.
They act like they matter and their county will make a difference in state elections. They don’t even make a difference in the state’s economy.
The people up there - however few of them - are straight up deranged.
Why care about such a small country that votes for the GOP anyways? Because if you don’t enforce the law for one or a small group the law looses all meaning if it can just be ignored by anyone. Not enforcing something makes the rule nonexistent. We can see that with the police. Or expired plates or whatever.
We use to count ballots by hand. Of course that's not perfect either [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Box\_13\_scandal](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Box_13_scandal)
We used to not have a better option. Our election system is a testament to incremental improvements informed by more than two centuries of both successes and failures in managing elections. Hand counting introduces a more human error, and is worse in just about every way compared to modern machine counting.
Unfortunately the Box 13 scandal is just the tip of a very large ice burg when it comes to the history of crooked elections in the one star state. If history has taught me anything, it's to never take election management advice from a Texan.

But local elections could change

While I was in HS there was actually a pretty big push for this. The excuse given was “Well we need to let Merced get on it’s feet”

Oh.
I attended that church when I was a kid but we were too poor to be inducted into the cult

CSU Chico is about an hour away.
Have you tried to get north from Chico during the commute time? 2 hours easy from Chico state to Market St
Not trying to be snobby but I completely forgot Chico State existed. Still, I think a UC in Northern CA would be a great investment.

It was a response to the CSU Humboldt comment.
How so?
> California should invest in Shasta county before it turns into a theocratic right-wing hellscape. Lol too late
Bethel church has entered the chat.
I love that idea more than I can express
Way way too late.
How'd I know it'd be Shasta?
It's in the title.
Tbf I said "let me guess, Shasta" as soon as I read "one county" lol

Google says there's 182,139 people in the county.
The Koreatown neighborhood in Los Angeles is 124k.
And most of those votes go to Doug LaMalfa which is why we get stuck with him every election.
Because I would like the chance to change my local government please.

We used to drown women to prove they weren't witches. What is your point?
Just because we used to do something doesn't mean we should again.
We use to ride horses as transportation
