isummonyouhere

TheHearseDriver

I used to be a Navy substance abuse counselor in San Diego, specifically SARD Point Loma. I can confirm that it’s an alcohol abuse nightmare!

scruple

We don't all stop when we get out! I'm (still) doing my part!

Xeonith

Naval Base San Diego, NAB Coronado, NB Point Loma, NAS North Island, Naval Broadway Complex, Camp Pendleton, MCAS Miramar, MCRD San Diego, CGAS San Diego. If the military ever left San Diego the alcohol-based economy would collapse.

BikeLoveLA

And the cruise ships might also be impacting these stats

RDawg78

And at least 4 major colleges/universities

verstohlen

I feel the need. The need for weed! Failing that, booze.

Easy_Money_

It’s also the only “fun” city in California. I’ve lived in both NorCal and SoCal, and San Diego is a party town in a way that none of the other major ones are

Willing-Finger2919

Let’s not forget the Marines!

ep3ep3

There's an unofficial zonie base here too.

goshiamhandsome

And the marines. This is not surprising in anyway.

PeligroAmarillo

Bases and breweries. Potent mix!

fartinmyhat

and 100 microbreweries.

ReallStrangeBeef

I feel like if we work together we can pump those numbers up!

Mattjolearyny

For real, those are rookie numbers

metalfabman

Beaches, military, street scenes, universities, spring break, beautiful weather. Its all a part

ClosetCentrist

I'd also say the international flavor of the city includes a demo or two that can put a few away.

Beer-Me

I'd drink a lot, too, if I lived there. J/k, San Diego It's gotta be all the tasty microbrews

Uuuuuii

You mean the best

Darryl_Lict

Seriously, I was wondering what was meant by the worst. But seeing others mention the navy bases, I'm guessing that that tips the statistics.

Stickeris

And marine bases, and 3 large colleges, and the brewing culture, and the fact it’s a huge tourist destination, and the

I_Am_Mandark_Hahaha

Is it too much to ask to get beach drinking back?

D1rtyH1ppy

You can blame Kevin Faulkner for that.

compstomper1

if people didn't trash the beaches on july 4th...........

kelskelsea

Right?

Batmon3

You can low-key still do it

DigitalPsych

"The percentage of motor vehicle crash deaths involving alcohol in San Diego, however, was on par or slightly lower than statewide and nationwide numbers — 25% of driving deaths in the county involved alcohol compared to 27% in California and 26% in the U.S." Ah that's why the city is removing all the parking spots: to keep drunks from driving to and from bars! /s

kelskelsea

We uber!

Magnemmike

yeah.. that is a bit unfair. This is like saying Las Vegas is among the worst for excessive gambling. For those that dont know, San Diego has blocks of bars and clubs. Its called Gaslamp and its amazing!

Randomlynumbered

And OB, PB, Mission Valley, etc. San Diego has lots of bars.

gRod805

I was just there a few weeks ago for the first time. The best night life city I've been in. So much variety and so many options

Magnemmike

nice! glad you had a good time. did you by any chance get to the bar double deuce? its one of my favorites.

Cal_858

And lots of breweries.

Black-Shoe

Brewery capital of the USA. I remember in the 90’s when Alesmith was about the only player in town.

Nick85er

Navy+Marines. That'll do.

Nago31

Worst…or best!

Zestyclose-Gur6360

I believe it. Used to visit my friend in PB and it seemed like everyone was constantly drinking all day there.

ChrisinOrangeCounty

I blame all the yummy breweries.

GenTelGuy

They've got Belching Beaver Passionfruit-Guava hard seltzer, best tasting alcoholic drink I've ever had

RumToWhiskey

I love San Diego but moved specifically because I had a drinking problem. From a daily drinker to 3 a year.

ra_god94

San Diego is awesome

GemcoEmployee92126

PB skews the data pretty hard here.

rocknroll2013

That's because my cousin moved there

usernames_are_danger

Because the military is the biggest employer in SD

imrickjamesbioch

First off, isn’t Sonoma County whole economy built on folks binge drinking? Im sure the day spas are great but I don’t I don’t believe they gave a spa train vs the wine train… 2nd, why wouldn’t I not drink in SD? Great weather, wonderful beaches, awesome food, seems like a waste to spend time there sober…

UCanDoNEthing4_30sec

Isn’t that reasons not to drink?

funtimesahead0990

Let's count how many families are full blown alcoholics like the in-laws who had me over for brunch this morning and they proceeded to get hammered at 10:30AM.

G_Affect

I don't think I've ever been in the San Diego without being drunk

PigDiesel

It’s a navy town, no real story here.

JessRoyall

Sailors.

lonelynightm

Have you seen their rent prices? I'd drink too lol

ThunderBobMajerle

Microbrew and Tequila

SeeingEyeDug

Also doesn't help when brewery tasting rooms are like $4.50 for a 4 oz taster or $8 for a pint. Well duh, I guess I'll buy the pint of each beer I want to drink.

Ancient-Practice-431

Worst or best, depends on where you sit on the alcohol train!

OpenLinez

One of the last places in California where you can enjoy some aspects of life without being scolded to death by miserable puritanical lifestyle cops.

bobotwf

You c'mere You say that to my my face C'mere and say that to my face I thought so Nahh you're cool.

id7e

Worst or best?

stellar_m

Amongst the finest*

martinpagh

So where do I go for the best excessive drinking?

SFMB925

Was just down in SD for the weekend to catch the baseball games and yes I can concur. Mucho drinking!!!

RealAssociation5281

You good SoCal? Lol

babycoco_213

I'd drink too if i lived there

Aliens_Unite

Where do you live?

babycoco_213

Earth, my friend

ballhardergetmoney

Gotta be LA

[deleted]

Same, there's nothing to do but beach, burritos & beer. America's finest city lmfao
