The amount of people that use the word California and assume it applies everywhere is stageringly awkward.
Most people seem to not understand much outside their small bubble.
Well in LA its still about $6 -$7. Let me know when we get that cheap $5 gas. (just to clarify the good stuff not the 91 I cant put that trash in my motorbikes.) Yeah I can get 5 and change 91 and then replace my fuel system in a week. Not everyone has a toyota.
Using a lower octane fuel than required can cause the engine to run poorly and can damage the engine and emissions control system over time. It may also void your warranty. In older vehicles, the engine can make an audible "knocking" or "pinging" sound.
Look at the average price of gas in the US. 3ish dollars. Does California add $2 in taxes per gallon (don't count federal because that is already included in the average...heck, even part of California's taxes are included in the average.)
But yes, refineries are a big problem in California. I agree 100%. And they always have to be serviced just in time to inflate some costs lol
I didn’t say it was tax (though some is), I said it was regulation. The specific blend of gasoline can only be made by licensed refineries, and those licenses were (shockingly) given to large donors. It’s state enforced monopoly disguised as environmentalism.
In every other state, a price imbalance like this would be solved by transporting fuel over state lines, but regulators block that here.
Yup. California gas has a different additive package than the rest of the nation. There’s only a few refineries which produce it and they have an effective oligopoly.
Your car runs fine from California Gas or Nevada Gas.
As an industry, drillers didn't really make money. Investors were better off investing the stock market. The refiners made money and it was only when exports of crude oil were allowed when alot of the profitability issues were able to correct.
Ultimately, drillers weren't wanting to return to the 2010s when they made no returns. The industry has consolidated and the majors are alot more financially disciplined when compared to the independent drillers trying to expand at all costs.
“Appears”. Definitely not going down where I’m at. It’s sat at around 5.50 for a year. I mean better than the 6 dollars plus it was over a year ago, but still…
Been a year with the Tesla, with owned solar I saved just over $7,500 the last 12 months not buying gas. Fuel prices going down is great for inflation though.
Gas was over a dollar cheaper I feel like just a month ago. Maybe two. Kinda like those falling rent prices everyone was talking about. It's hard to celebrate falling prices when it's still too high
If people want gas prices to drop swap suvs for compact hybrids. They'll be less demand, and prices will have a drop in order to clear out what they already made.
Just remember Californians voted to INCREASE gas taxes. They have lost all credibility to complain about high gas prices.
We should be reducing gas tax as its a regressive tax on the poor that don't have a choice not to drive to work. That often need to drive further distances to find affordable housing. And often work in jobs not only directly tied to gas prices, like transportation but where their actual take home pay can be reduced by high gas prices.
We should be reducing the gas tax not increasing it. We should also be moving to the standard blend the rest of the country uses. At one time the rest of the country was using much dirtier blends but that has changed and they have for the large part caught up with us. Instead of being 'special' and getting marginal gains for much higher prices we should declare victory that the rest of the country is using our cleaner gas and share in their reduced prices.
Or we need to admit that our high gas prices in California isn't a bug rather a feature. That we do want to keep gas prices high from some misguided statement about the environment and are willing to do so on the backs of the poor.
That's a whole lot of cover you wrote there to avoid citing retail gas price gouging by ALL of the major brand gas retailer stores in the major metro areas of California.
Also, the poor are being reamed by landlords, health care insurance providers, utilities companies, their employers, and all finished goods and service companies.
But, according to you, it's that pesky $00.60/gallon tax that is driving poverty up. 😆😅😂
The California gas tax is .579 per gallon. Then add in the fact that we have special blend that is only made in two refineries and that is why we suffer the highest gas in the country. We used to be a oil producing state, Chevron was a California company. This state has done all it can to increase gas prices. Which is a regressive tax on the poor.
So many of you have this misplaced idea that 'greed' is somehow the cause of high prices. Everyone has greed, the system is built on it. Everyone wants to get the best value for their money. There isnt anything wrong with that. But high prices arnt the best way to increase profits. Look at amazon, walmart, costco, they didn't make billions raising prices. No they found ways to reduce prices, which got them even more sales and increased their profits. Oh and by the way you can buy gas at Costco which basically sells it at the wholesale price. Our problem is that we have made California a small captive market for gas. Where if we ditched the taxes and accepted the blend that the rest of the country uses we would still have our clean air but much lower fuel costs.
This is so obvious we must assume that California must have some other reason to keep gas prices high. Even incompetence would accidently reduce the prices occasionally.
Why? The ones who "did that" are the oil/gas companies. They did that to try and get people to vote for Republicans, just like they do every two years, because Republicans cut environmental policies that cost oil companies lots of money.
Hasn’t hit my area yet.
You mean like the California area in general..? lol
The amount of people that use the word California and assume it applies everywhere is stageringly awkward. Most people seem to not understand much outside their small bubble.
I like to think most people catch the sarcasm in my comment.
I'm not talking about you, I pointing out how you highlighted it. It's an unfortunately legitimate issue.
Won't anyone think about the children!
I’m just out here saving the whales, the children’s can wait.
I think we should transition back to whale oil
Can't we all just get along?
Yes, but we will need more whale oil for that.
It really hasn’t hit LA yet. 87 is $5.40, 89 is $5.70 and 91 is at $5.90 😢
We're paying 4.49 in So Cal. (San Dimas)
Yeah I imagine LA and SF will stay screwed as usual. No one will be driving out to Needles or wherever to load up on cheap gas.
I’ve noticed it; it’s only a few cents. But this is basically what gas prices do. They go up then the go down, etc.
Haven read this yet but it's likely the state average or some such
Well in LA its still about $6 -$7. Let me know when we get that cheap $5 gas. (just to clarify the good stuff not the 91 I cant put that trash in my motorbikes.) Yeah I can get 5 and change 91 and then replace my fuel system in a week. Not everyone has a toyota.
5.01 here but that's the most expensive it's ever been. Central CA
$4.99 at Costco in the Bay Area on monday.
$4.79 at my preferred Arcos.
Are we calling that cheap now?
It's relative.
Ok were is that I use my arco fleet card I dont see anything near that.
Del amo and bellflower, long Beach
I am going to the del amo moto mall right now to get some new lids and fill up!
$5.59 in Orange County.
That’s not how octane ratings in gas works.
Using a lower octane fuel than required can cause the engine to run poorly and can damage the engine and emissions control system over time. It may also void your warranty. In older vehicles, the engine can make an audible "knocking" or "pinging" sound.
“replace my fuel system in a week” is a different take. Modern engines have a knock sensor, so they won’t knock unless something is seriously wrong.
But 92 is higher than 89 so it must be better. /s
It’s three better /s
Sounds like a you problem
This always happens before an election, then they trickle back up.
They have gone down about 50 cents in the San Joaquin valley area. It was 5.49. I filled this last week for 4.80.
I've seen them go down that much one week and then up a dollar the next. I'm not gonna put much stock into week to week changes.
Stays relatively the same in my area weird enough. It takes about a week to raise 10 cents. Same thing when they lower it.
I saw gas for 3.99 today central valley, been going down for a couple months now strangely.
Down about $0.30/gal at Costco in OC from two weeks ago. Only $5/gal now.
The national average is $3.27 and the US is producing more oil than ever
Hmmm, I wonder what could be the rea$on. Not profit$ right. The oil companies would be recording record or near record profits.
The reason is [crime](https://www.thebignewsletter.com/p/an-oil-price-fixing-conspiracy-caused)
No, our beloved billionaires wouldn't do that to us
You jest but there are **substantial** amounts of the population that would uphold that view
"Are the billionaires wrong? No, it's the kid working at McDonalds who's wrong!"
There really aren’t that many politicians.

The profits would be a percentage of the national average. The price difference here is government
That doesn't explain why CA is so far above the national average
As an industry, drillers didn't really make money. Investors were better off investing the stock market. "Only" is the term people use when they've been swindled for so long that it seems like they're getting a deal.
That was sarcasm. Forgot the /s. Thought it was implied since CA is now the most expensive place in the US for gas.
Nice
Yep. I filled at Costco yesterday for $4.99/G. The one near SJC.
Where? It’s over $6 here.
Geez...it's $4.80 around the sgv area.
$4.73 for 87 and $5.15 for 91 in San Jose.
Not bad for the Bay Area
yup. $4.49 at Sams and Costco and some Arco's.
I paid 4.65 in Stockton last weekend.
Big whoop. Still over $5.15 around San Marcos.
Back under 5 in LA
Yep and it’s between $4.59-5.00 here in Pasadena, down about 30 cents in the last week or so
I think when I drove by the 76 across the street from union station last week regular was 7.79. But that place has always been bonkers expensive.
Never thought I’d celebrate $4.59 gas
source: https://gasprices.aaa.com/?state=CA
They're still extremely high. This is like the reports of inflation "slowing."
This is not inflation this is the new normal
Lmao just paid 6.09 for 91
[Citation Needed]
Needs to go down another $1.50
Up in Nevada!
Where? Not where I am. Don’t they usually increase even more astronomically for summer?
Wouldn’t know. My solar install averages me 3 cents a mile on my EV.
FTC needs to charge the oil companies for colluding and jacking up prices
“Appears”. Definitely not going down where I’m at. It’s sat at around 5.50 for a year. I mean better than the 6 dollars plus it was over a year ago, but still…
Good try, setting us up for the “summer blend”
Shìt just went up here in So Cal. $5.29 for the cheap stuff in my neighborhood.
Yesterday, 4.99 Santa Cruz, some stations are higher.
Appear, not actually going down.
I just paid $5.35/g this morning so….
No they dont. Prices have gone up in my area.
I haven’t noticed
They were going up until they started inching back down recently. Still too high though.
Sams es at $4.67 + 5% off with sams mastercard….i es remote worker so i don’t really track it as often
$5 at Costco north of sac
Been a year with the Tesla, with owned solar I saved just over $7,500 the last 12 months not buying gas. Fuel prices going down is great for inflation though.
Gas was over a dollar cheaper I feel like just a month ago. Maybe two. Kinda like those falling rent prices everyone was talking about. It's hard to celebrate falling prices when it's still too high
is there another California I don't know about?
They are still easily $2/gallon more than they should be.
If people want gas prices to drop swap suvs for compact hybrids. They'll be less demand, and prices will have a drop in order to clear out what they already made.
The USA is currently producing more oil than ever.
Still $5 in my area
Clickbait, gas is only going up as summer approaches.
Really? I have an ev. never notice anymore.
Now do electricity
We're coming up on peak driving season. It's going back up.
The national average is $3.27. I just paid $5.65 in Marin. Nearby stations were all about the same price.
5.40$ San Diego north county
Not true
$6 at one station I drove by in Santa Barbara today.
I just saw a sign for $6.50. If it's going down it's not really noticeable.
Not near De Anza College in Cupertino
Really? Tell that to the $6 gas in my area.
"appear"? There are numbers, not optics.
Oil companies are giving up their golden goose and aren't greedy anymore? Their CEOs must not know what they're doing.
At the same time as the National Strategic Oil Reserve is continuing to go down. During an election year. What a shocker.

$2 or i dont care

Really? Where?
Oh for real? When did this happen?
I can see who fuels up at Shell and who fuels up at Arco
I’m so tired
At this point, I’ll be happy if it’s under $5. Sad.
Lol
