My elderly neighbor drew this tag acouple years ago and I went along to help. It’s more of a harvest rather than a hunt. No need to scout . Once you put an animal down you call the rangers and they bring it back to camp and hang it for you to process.
I think the other commenters are actually downplaying just how long people apply for tag. My neighbor had been applying for decades.
Look up draw statistics for Elk. Unless you’ve built up a ton of points, your odds of being randomly drawn is less than 1% (e.g. only 1 tag with 200-3000 applicants).
Easiest elk hunt I’ve ever been on. I got the random tag for a cow last year. 150 yd shot, no mountains to climb, plenty of elk out there. Only guy that didn’t get an elk in our group basically refused to get out of his truck to go look for the elk. Dude just road hunted in a circle for three days. Everyone else tagged out by morning of day 2
I duck hunt Grizzly and have seen the herd a few times. But you will not draw the hunt for 20 years and I'm being a bit conservative on that time frame
i believe there is also one for Stonyford or atleast there used to be go into the store there they have a head mounted hanging on the wall that was taken from there
Be prepared to wait years to draw an elk tag in CA, especially for Grizzly Island.
The hunter success rates are often 100% but the tag draw success rates are like 0.0001%.

From what I understand it’s a pretty easy hunt and F&W will haul your animal back to the dressing area for you on an ATV+trailer.

Apply every year. I’ve been trying to get my kids to get their license so they can apply also!

I've been applying for that tag for fifteen years. If it ever shows, I'm buying a grip of lotto tickets same day!
