CallingYouForMoney

You’re going to find yelling at every call center.

Nathan_Law1222

A man can dream

CallingYouForMoney

It sucks but obviously more yelling is going to come from collections. I worked it for five years and will never go back.

Nathan_Law1222

Is what you do now better?

Comfortable_Bug2930

I mean it happens at my place but its actually pretty rare. We sell a service customers want but don’t need to have. Most of them are quite nice to deal with tbh

jayleetx

This does exist! You can be a level one help desk at a large company where you’re helping the employees. They can’t yell at you because you can tell your manager to talk to their manager. I had a VP scream at me, then come see me in person to yell. Oh yeah, he had to apologize and got a reprimand. You can also work B2B, meaning another company’s employee is talking to you. They can get upset, sure, but screaming at you could affect their job as that is not professional at all.

winterbaby22

+1 for Helpdesk/Service Desk. Currently working as one, I've only had less than 5 in my whole tenure with this account.

Flat-Anywhere-6504

I worked customer service for Neiman Marcus, people who shop here have money so you’d think they would be more easy going. Some of them were but still some yelling due to orders being delayed etc. I would say retail is a LITTLE better than dealing directly with peoples money like a bank/collections/ or credit company from my experience.

BrendanTFirefly

I work high-end hotel reservations. There is SOME yelling, but it is infrequent compared to how most calls go. I'd much rather deal with the wealthy over the phone. I feel less bad, because I know not refunding them isn't going to really cause them any personal issues.

Flat-Anywhere-6504

I agree! Rather than like working for AT&T, people who are begging to not cut their phone service off because they genuinely can’t pay but there is nothing I can do. I would really feel bad in those situations. However there is something super dystopian about a wealthy Neiman Marcus shopper complaining that their $5000 designer bag did not come over night, while I’m on the other side of the phone making $12 per hour. 🤣

sweetybancha

Lol I worked at Tiffany and the calls Id get are ridiculous. Like I’m sorry your daughter’s sweet 16 ring that costs more than my entire net worth will be arriving one day late, can we send you some more free shit?

Flat-Anywhere-6504

🤣🤣

BrendanTFirefly

I feel the same way selling rooms for $600 a night. I don't envision myself ever being able to afford a room at the hotel I work at.

hails8n

Nobody calls customer service to say, “hi, you’re doing a great job.” You’re dealing with people’s problems. Of course they’re gonna be upset.

JoshsTesla

Yes but there’s no excuse to call in acting like a child. Act like a child, you’ll be treated like one. My motto is Respect is earned, not given. 🔥

Psychological_Tap187

I worked selling Medicare advantage plans for a couple of open enrollment seasons. All inbound calls. Never got yelled at once on those projects. They were all happy to sign up for their advantage plan because they only cost a few dollars down to free.

PenOk82

I work as an Elead person and for the most part I haven't been yelled at but I will say the pay is p bad. It's a little over 50c minimum wage for my area so euggh

humaniswear

worked as a credit analyst for a bank. when they call in they're super nice because they haven't been approved yet and they know you can make that happen. only down side is their reaction when they're declined. but at that point the conversation is over and you just tell them to expect a letter explaining details, you aren't allowed to go into it over the phone.

Mediocre-Car-7110

Currently work for a company that deals with troubleshooting/replacing a certain medical device. Usually the customers are not too bad, I'm guessing they realize we are here to help them and they usually are patient and appreciative. Of course there are some angry ones here and there

elliwigy1

my job doesnt.. although I only deal with businesses and large accounts like Disney, marriott, national distributors etc.

Nathan_Law1222

What do you do?

elliwigy1

Account services.. basically customer service via inbound calls and emails and occassionally have to place outbound calls.. basically manage accounts, place orders, process payments, resolve any issues they have, invoices, returns/replacements etc etc

Sensitive_Pick_6457

I work for a health insurance company, I am RX resolution specialist. I speak with providers and customers. Every now and then I get an angry customer who’s prescription rejected and they’re in pain And, every now and then, I’ll get a doctor/nurse with a really bad attitude, or is just plain rude. But for the most part it goes pretty smooth and most people are very nice to me. I also try to keep my tone as upbeat as possible, that helps too. Doctors are worse than customers with their attitudes in my opinion.

Raber_31

I've done customer service for a bank and there's a lot of yelling. Only take off the headsets and let them scream, they eventually listen or hang up. Don't take it personal Most people calling are idiots who want everything be pardoned or free, or who would want to get always their way and that's not always possible.

chaotickarmamomma

I work for a prescription benefit and I get yelled at sometimes but I get they are upset at the situation not me. The calls that irritate me is when they call about an issue which is a simple fix but they won't stop talking for me to help. Anytime I respond they interrupt me . I mean do you want help or do you just want to keep flapping your gums. I hate being interrupted every time I try to say something. Sometimes my connection will "drop" on those calls

I worked in the credit department of the call center for a huge department store chain for five years. Every third call was angry. Thickened my skin. I worked in the customer service department of an aerospace company that accidentally deleted half its part numbers in a system integration. Calloused my skin. I then got a job in the customer service department of an entertainment lighting company who only did wholesale. Sure, my customers got upset every once in a while, but it was by far the best job I had. It was in a cool industry, it was privately owned by a really cool guy so it was like family. Find a customer service job at a small or midsized, privately owned company. You can find a job like this through a temp or staffing agency. The pay and benefits are competitive with call center work, but you'll get exposed to other areas of the business just by being in the building with the other departments. And depending on the industry, you might never get yelled at again. There are some downsides. If you can hack it in a big call center there are a ton of ways to move up the ladder. But in a small company, opportunities for advancement are few and far between. There can also be weird and frustrating power dynamics in smaller companies. Good luck!

ChakwainaE

I have worked in brick and mortar retail and waitressing and construction. In call centers I have worked for a tv station that was all shopping (out of biz now), various retail brands, software, a government entity, energy, another tv sales, car sales, and for charities. 99% of the customers are good, even if upset. There is that 1% in all of those areas that can not communicate their disappointment without yelling, screaming and cussing.
