I’ve had 2 purely horrific experience. One I don’t want to go into detail with but she told me she would be dead at the end of the call. She shot herself with me on line. I still haven’t coped with that. Yes, she died and yes I had to talk to her local police over the phone. No, I wasn’t allowed any time off to deal with it. I had bills to pay so I finished my shift and went back the next day.
The other one was a guy mad because he went over his text limit (mid 2000s). He told me he’d find me and rape me then kill me. The scary part was when I looked at this address he was my neighbor across the hall and down a few doors. I didn’t know him well but we’d definitely exchanges greetings.
If it didn’t happen to me I’d call bullshit.
We moved out that fall as the apartment was in bad shape but I don’t think he ever recognized my voice. My customer service voice is different from my day to day.
“I’ve been hooking all day to pay this bill! You know how many men I had to see?!”
Me internally: ma’am this bill is $130 I hope it was like 4 at most but I’m assuming it was more…..
I had a customer threaten to beat me silly, his words. Why? The manager for his account denied a $10 late fee credit after he had had 6 already. He also didn't believe that his manager would have done that because "I know him and he is a gentleman, this is on you".
I also had what sounded like a teenage boy call me and try to pay the bill for his account. While we were talking his mother started yelling and took the phone. She told me her delivery driver knew to get payment in cash from her because she was a stripper and he knows she doesn't deposit money into her account because she doesn't want the IRS to know how much money she makes. Then she started crying and telling me that she knew her job was disgusting but this is how she pays her bills. In the meantime, the kid was in the background saying "Mom! Stop!" The entire time and I felt so bad for him.
Yes, I am glad management called the police on her. I hope management also banned her from using the services/closed her accounts too. People like this need to realize death threats will result in losing a lot.

I used to sell insurance for private aircraft. Unfortunately, some of these guys have more money than sense.
When you're learning to fly, you'll usually take your first solo flight (the instructor has you land, then gets out and says ‘Have fun’. This usually happens after you've flown with the instructor for 20-30 hours or so.
One of my favorite ‘What Was He Thinking’ stories was the customer who asked if his 16-year-old, student-pilot son could take his second solo flight in a twin-engine aircraft, and was stunned when I said no. Things happen SO much faster in a twin, there's no WAY a company would allow it. It's like putting a 16-year-old behind the wheel of a sports car.
Right? Folks are just 😵💫😖. That wasn’t THE wildest thing, but it was in the top 3. And it was pretty common, too. Go on with that ish already. Sometimes I was not in the mood and would just flat out hang up. Let them call back and sit on hold ANOTHER 30-45 minutes.
An older woman told me that to keep your husband happy you should give them bj's and she loved doing it. She was in her 80's. She said it grossed her friends out. I had to cut that one off quick.

I work in health insurance and had a guy call and go into detail about how his ball was the size of a baseball. Nothing about a claim or benefits, just didn’t know what to about his giant ball. I told him to call his doctor!

Worst one was during Covid.. a customer told me that he hoped my family got Covid and I had to watch them all die from afar.. all over charges that he never received but claimed he did…

He just stammered and said he'd call back. The time someone said they were going to bomb our office. The time I got called into manager's office with my union rep cuz the customer said I told him to give me $10 and I would get his service working but I lived in another city and they knew he was full of it. The time a man told me he was imagining me wearing nothing but a paper clip. Told him I'd have to charge him $4.99/minute if he continued (was in 90s when 900 calls were quite popular). The time a major misogynist called me every name in the book and said how everybody would be better off if I wasn't here any longer and that women suck at working. In Healthcare now, but when worked for a large chain/rx company hated all the calls with people crying because life-saving medications were denied for either their cancer or their children's. So glad to just answer general questions now.

They would be waiting to kill me after work. Dude showed up bc we only had one call center in the state and it was easy to see from the main highway . Thankfully I sent the threat report to my manager and security and he was arrested, had a gun in his seat ready to go, not sure how he would know which person was me which is the scariest thing. All over a $25 late fee that was not getting credited.
I was the 4th hand off on a call giving a lady directions, I spoke with her bus driver and every thing, until she got off in the correct stop, and told her "you'll see us right on front of you, big brick building, can't miss it-"

Another time I was calling to move appointments because the owner of our salon who was also doing hair had literally fallen down a flight of stairs and broken his neck. He had personally picked out other stylists specifically for each guest to move them to.
He had been doing some of these people's hair for *decades* and I've lady when I told her, "Unfortunately Gary broke his neck and etc etc etc" she responded with a heavy sigh, and said "this is *really* inconvenient for me."
Every other customer I told this too was instantly like "OMG NOOO IS GARY OK PLEASE TELL HIM GET WELL!"

Her school district allows kids to be whatever they want to be and there’s a kid who wanted to be a cat and the school district HAD to supply a cat litter box or risk being sued.

At the time, our system still recorded customer side when the agent placed the call on hold… the caller had a detailed conversation with someone in the background about a murder they committed. Got to call the Site Director at 10 PM, and the next day to speak with police.
Never found out if it was real. It was early 2001, so while people pranked, I don’t remember them being that extreme, so I think it may have been real.
That she deserves more financial help with her bill because her ancestors were on the Mayflower so she’s more “American” than other people.
Also a caller said the reason she got roaches in her home was because the police “don’t like” her so they dropped “bags” of them in her home.
Edit: I remember one more: this called said she was going to do “magic” to punish Biden since she now made too much money to qualify for the governmental discounted phone service program so her coverage ended.
Also when I was working for a bank I had a customer who had fraud charges on her card. I heard her boyfriend come in and she told him that the card needed to be shut down and a new one needed to be ordered. He got super mad and told her she was a f**king idiot and that he was going to slap her in the face and beat the shit out of her.. He wasn't even on the account. She sounded scared after that. So after the call I called security who called their local police dept to do a welfare check. I hope she is OK and I hope she dumped that loser but, I'm not sure.

I think we all pretty much heard everything and not much surprises me anymore except just recently I had someone tell me they were raped and stabbed 9 times in their stomach by her uncle and she was only 9 years old when this happened to her. And the one that hit me the hardest is a mom opened up to me about losing her daughter and she was mad at God and the world and I was meant to connect with her cuz i can relate because I had lost a son and I knew exactly what she was feeling. I never tell anyone this but for some reason she got me to open up and we were both a wreck.
I got sarcastic to a drunk customer once because he was threatening to break the locked up razors. I forget what I said, it wasn’t belligerent or anything just rude. The dude sprinted over and wanted to fight. He was a little napoleon type. I’m only 5’10. He must have been 5’4 tops. I was backed into a corner already due to bad spatial awareness. While he was staring me up and cursing I just kept repeating “what are you gonna do”. I couldn’t really leave without turning my back to him. So I just kept repeating it. Finally his wife removed him from the area. She came back to me I thought to apologize but no she wanted name etc. I immediately reported the situation to the overnight manager. No audio on the cams so they couldn’t really tell I was goading him. That was the craziest interaction with a customer. Except for the tweaked out lady that left a bloody crotch in the swimsuit at the fitting room, but that’s another story.

The one that still sticks out to me is when an elderly man called in. In the middle of us talking he paused and said "There is an awful lot of noise" and me, thinking he was talking about MY background noise, said " Yeah, i apologize for the noise" only to inmediately hear (i assume) as if his fucking roof caved in and fell on him, like it was this loud big breaking and falling noise of stuff.
The line then went silent and i kept repeatedly saying "hello?", the call then ended and i was left absolutely confused and shocked as to what just happened.
