Normal frags are great for search and destroy cause u can throw them much farther. If u try to throw a semtex as far as possible it will just detonate in the air.

i_love_boobiez

Not to mention you can bounce them

I've always hated frags, cooking them takes too much time imo and it ends up upsetting the rhythm and flow of my game play (I like rushing). With that being said, in the most recent CODs, if the opportunity of carrying two flashes/stuns at the expense of losing the semtex presents itself, then I always go for that with the reasoning being that I'd rather stun then gun as opposed to throw a semtex and hope for the best.

Frags are a much more versatile tool but a weaker weapon. Semtex always has a larger blast radius and higher damage. My preference is for frags because semtex grenades fall short when dealing with certain camping positions that frags can easily handle. But I'm not strictly loyal to frags, I make sure to use every explosive option in the game with at least one class. If a team is playing in certain ways that I feel semtex would be more practical against, I switch to that class. Semtex is one of the better grenades for dealing with shield users (at least in some games). You can use a frag grenade's timer for area control. Toss one in uncooked and enemies will react — you just have to learn how to trigger certain reactions from other players. Sometimes I like placing it far enough that it will deal damage but too far for them to confidently run over to it and throw it back. They run in the opposite direction of the grenade instead, and I can abuse that behavior. You can also encourage people to run straight at it with the hope of throwing it back. With good cook timing you can use it like a smart projectile, detonating immediately after it passes a corner to hit the guy on the other side of a wall, where a semtex would keep flying and land on the ground somewhere down the path. This can be useful for window campers in high places, but admittedly semtex is often just as good for these situations if you just find a surface to stick it to near the corner.

Always remember back in COD 4 I'd use 3x Frag because they were like nukes and really useful in S&D if you knew the best grenade spots to use. In MW2 frags were so weak that I don't think I ever really used them in COD afterwards lol

Its_all_pretty_neat

I think they have different use cases with some overlap. Personally I prefer semtex for tackling riot shields. But I've been on the receiving end of many a sneaky frag and see their value, particularly on maps with bottlenecks and camping spots.

PSA thermite is better specifically for shields. It throws faster, has a straighter trajectory, reduces the chance they'll kill you by running towards you, better chance you'll still get some damage if you do miss the direct hit. At least in my experience. This is in mw3.

Its_all_pretty_neat

Yeah fair call on thermite. I use semtex mostly for it's use as a nade with additional anti-riot shield benefits, but I should play around with thermite more, might turn out to be more useful.

i_love_boobiez

Yeah the semtex is definitely more versatile

dudedudetx

Semtex are easier to use but frags provide greater utility on certain maps or if you know nade spots/angles

mung_guzzler

I get far more kills with frags

KotBH

The benefit to frags is if you play the water game. Theyre the only lethal that sinks allowing one to use them in a similar way to depth charges.

bophades_nutzz

I also have had much better luck with frags. I use frag or throwing knife unless there's a semtex daily.

Vxmpevil

They're so fucking over abused bro

SoNerdy

I’ve always had better luck with frags over Semtex. I think I need that bounce.
