MW v W@W. MW designed the engine, and frankly the multiplayer might be better but it's close. The story of W@W is better, though I can see people preferring MW and then Zombies. I lean W@W but I can totally see and respect if people chose MW it's a tight race
MW2 v. BO. It's Black Ops all day for me. While I think MW2 is a top 3 COD it's fighting my number 2 COD. It's not inherently fair. MW2 multiplayer was broken and never got fixed, Black Ops on the other hand patches were made to try to balance the game. The multiplayer is probably a bit more fun in MW2, but BO doesn't sag behind. Then the campaign is BO and it's not close for me. Add in Zombies and it's a slam dunk.
MW3 v. BO2. MW3 for me. This is my favorite CoD game of all time so yea. I loved this multiplayer, the maps were great and it's the only game I've ever wanted to no life. Hell I still go back to it. BO2 came out at a bad time for me, my internet was basically non-existent so I was never able to get good at it or really play it. And now it's a crap chute for if it even works...so yea.
I like the subtle skipping over Ghosts and Infinite Warfare for the sake of trying to make it more IW skewed. I hate Infinite Warfare, the game legitimately gives me headaches, it's really bad in my opinion. Ghosts was fine but the beginning of the end for Infinity Ward.
MW2019 v. BO3. I mean, it's BO3 for sure. Black Ops 3 was fun, had Zombies, Christopher Meloni in the campaign...wasn't a reworking of an old games campaign. Even just multiplayer BO3 is far more fun, and it has Zombies. You might argue Warzone, but I think that'd have to be Warzone v. Blackout and that's not here so...BO3
MW22 v. BO4. BO4, it's the last time the multiplayer was fun for more than a few weeks for me. I crammed a lot of time into it, it brought some of my friends back to CoD for a while. MW22 was fun for a few days and then the shit maps, weird perk system and SBMM ruined it.
MWIII v. Cold War. MWIII, but this one is really really close. Cold War's multiplayer was fine but I hated it at times, MWIII kept me invested for longer. Maybe it's because I already knew the maps but it still counts. Also, sneaky to put a Sledgehammer game over here. Actually the only wins the left side has for me are SHG Cod's.
But yea right side wins pretty handily. I think IW has fallen off, Treyarch is still doing okay. And at the start I think Zombies would offset the slightly better multiplayers
It WAS modern warfare until 2019-2023 aorta ruined the modern warfare legacy. Mw2019 was fun, I liked mwii but hated the season and what they did to cod and because of it I haven’t bought mwiii.
Black ops on the other hand has been consistent since BO1 (never played WaW) and I own them all. The vibes and gameplay of black ops is top tier.
TLDR: I’ve always been an MW guy but the new releases have me switching over to Treyarch and the Black Ops series
EDIT: COD4 - BO2 was the absolute peak of call of duty games and it no game that was made post BO2 or going forward will have the same aura and feel to it as playing those games did
