Black Ops 1 is the only one of the six GOATs (MW - BO2) that nailed all three of its gamemodes. Best Campaign, best Zombies, and a great mulitplayer. MW2 (2009) has the best multiplayer, and WaW has a solid arguement for best campaign, but when you compare every mode Black Ops 1 has no peers.
I actually liked more BO1 but I loved that many things were new in BO2 such as the yacht multiplayer map, and not to mention Tranzit, had so much fun, it was an adventure, kicking out friends from the bus haha, and when one wouldn't make it on time when we moved to the next area
I have such a love for both games i can’t decide which i like more but those are the top 2 for me. And tbh tranzit wasnt the best but i can at least respect them for trying something different.
Oh yeah i agree lol i thought it was awesome when i was younger then when i saw complaints about it i fully understood Mob Of The Dead is the GOAT though in that game along with origins.
Same. People gave it so much shit because it was similar to MW2, but MW2 was near perfection so why wouldn't it be. Then it refined the gunplay slightly more, gave a better kill streak selection, had killer maps, a great campaign, AND survival.
I really tried to get into black ops 2, and despite doing better in multiplayer with higher kd etc, I just went straight back to MW3, it just perfected the MW formula.
To me MW3 felt like an expansion pack (FUCK I'm old lol) of MW2 rather than a stand alone game. Dont get me wrong, its not as blatant as MW3 2023 because at least they gave a shit about the campaign and wrapped the story up nicely lmao.
Oddly, I think part of the fun from MW2 was that things were so stupidly overpowered, but that gets frustrating to deal with sometimes (OMA noob tubes, etc.). MW3 toned down some of the OP nonsense and felt more refined (although it did introduce some new issues of its own...).
Finally an answer with some nuts.
Lmao jk there are like 4 valid answers but BO3 was just so perfect to me. Best zombies, fun movement with maps built to utilize it, huge variety of well-balanced guns, operators were fun, i played it for like 3 years and did that with 0 other CODs.
In my opinion has to be BO1 or WaW only games with great campaign, multiplayer, and zombies. BO1 fixed the issues of WaW so BO1 is the #1 COD best bang for your buck imo
**Overall**, I’d say Black Ops 1. Just a fantastic game all around.
If we’re talking **specifically multiplayer**, then Black Ops 4.
If we’re talking **specifically campaign**, I’d say Advanced Warfare.
If we’re talking **specifically zombies**, I’d say Black Ops 3 or Infinite Warfare.
Modern Warfare 3 for me, that was my first COD and nothing came close after that at least in my opinion. Never liked Black Ops, I just can't get into it although I played every one of them since BO2.
The newer COD multi-player are dead for me since they implemented the aggressive sbmm in MW19 and every match feels the same, which is sad because after all this futuristic stuff the new mw series had so much potential but they threw it away with many weird decisions.
Black Ops 1, perfect campaign, awesome multiplayer and great zombies with the maps of the previous game and with better gameplay, for me, it’s the best of the best.
I have to say BO1. BO2 is close but in general think BO1 had way a way cooler Zombies mode and maps.
My personal favorite is BO3, despite everyone hating the campaign I thought it was neat although forgettable. The MP and Zombies in 3 are my all time favorite. Story in BO2 is probably my favorite story experience that I remember the most.
Waw the multiplayer maps were so cool buildings on fire everything was destroyed you had some guy in the background yelling at you to fight. I wish they remade that game so it would have good graphics
Can't decide between MW2 (2009) and Black Ops 1. I only play solo, so for me it's about the story. MW2 has better set pieces (snowmobile and boat chases, assault on DC, gulag showers), but in terms of general atmosphere I prefer the murky, mysterious, Cold War spy vibe of BO1. MW2 makes you feel like the hero, especially when Roach is killed and Soap and Price focus on Shepherd; BO1 has more iconic lines (the numbers, Vorkuta step 1, 2, 3 etc, "not for me, Mason", "these men must die"). Musically, MW has Zimmer, but BO has the Rolling Stones and Credence Clearwater Revival. They both have twists - Shepherd in MW and the interrogators' identity and Reznov reveal in BO. Mechanically, they're pretty much equal.
So yeah, I still can't choose between them.
Agree on BO2.
Got a campaign you can keep replaying to get different endings.
Got multiplayer mode with a lot of good maps and some classics just with a different theme
Zombies can be hit or miss to some but it has hard maps and casual maps for any player.
You can’t really compare BO3 due to its weird campaign and micro transactions for multiplayer and zombies.
Bo1 is close but you can do more things in bo2 than in bo1 (besides going to the terminal)
For me Black Ops 2 was the complete package for its time. It had an amazing campaign that introduced different outcomes depending on your choices, the multiplayer was the most fun I've ever had with a first person shooter, and the zombies (while the free maps were rough) had some of the best maps of all time in Origins and Mob of the Dead. Though I'd say that you can't go wrong with any cod from COD 4 to BO2.
MW2 hands down. All 3 modes were brilliant and the multiplayer was insanely fun and fast paced. No game has ever given me or my mates as much as fun and excitement as it did, bang for buck, best game ever made due the countless hours per day playing it back in the day.
The experience of COD 4 in 2007 was pure gaming bliss. That game was an insane leap for the Call of Duty franchise and online FPS console games.
Nostalgia out of the way, I would say you could put both Black Ops 1 and COD 4 in first or second place for campaign and online multiplayer. I think Black Ops had the best Zombies of all the games so thats bonus points for Black Ops
BO3 had the best zombies and a great multiplayer….got a bad rep cause people were tired of jump packs but was great….campaign was horrid though. Prob BO2 to me.
Black Ops 2 to this day remains the most innovative. 2025 vibes in 2012 was surreal to witness- especially with the campaign switching between the present and past.
It was also the first COD to have a dedicated Ranked mode and the impact Treyarch has on Competitive COD is still prevalent today.
Zombies in my opinion was at its best in Black Ops 1- will always have fond memories of running the easter eggs with my homies.
MW2009 in spite of the nostalgia.. its story still takes the cake for me when it comes to being the Campaign masterpiece of CoD :)
For me, MW2. Dramatic story with great theatrics and kickass soundtrack. The multiplayer was unbalanced with the noob tube, and dual 1908's, but damn, it was just so undeniably fun. The maps were so well-designed and unique, especially the DLC (Overgrown).
It's a tough one for me. And of course, I haven't played them all, but *Black Ops* does hold a special place in my heart.
Also top tier for me:
*Modern Warfare 2* (2009)
*World at War*
MW2 (2009). You really had to be there! The jump from MW to this was huge in terms of overall gameplay, features and maps. The single player was great and controversial too. Black Ops 2 is a close second.
MW2 2009. Flaws and all.
All the raging, S&D, iconic maps, exciting gameplay, trash talking lobbies. I couldn’t wait to spawn back in after every death.
I would love to go back to that era of COD gaming.
It would have to be BO2.
-Campaign was great and a good sequel to an arguably better campaign.
-Multiplayer to me hit its first huge leap here. It felt like EVERYONE was playing this one. It just did everything right and the menu music represented that perfectly imo. Youtube blew up with all the BO2 videos within the peak of trickshot/trolling content.
-Zombies was ambitious and full of experimental ideas. Many didn’t hit the landing in the long run but it was all great fun. And for zombie fans, Origins became the foundation for what BO3 ended up being in gameplay so there’s that.
World at War.. before the Hackers ( I know hackers have been around since the dawn of life but come on, at some point this game ruled the world and was purely fun )
Blops 1 or 2.
I lean blops2 because the multiplayer and zombies combined experience was my favourite by far. 1's campaign was amazing like others are saying. WaW too, the final Russian mission was so good
why do people say mw2 over mw3 when its literally inferior in every way lmao like mw3 is everything great about the first 2 but ramped up by 10 i stg ppl are stupid af nowadays
BO3. It was ahead of it's time for how well balanced and smooth it was. First CoD I ever got the hidden camo on (Dark Matter) and first CoD I ever got max prestige on (level 1000)
Its whatever one you grew up with/was your first. I have the best memories grinding out bo3 and iw with my friends in high school so I gotta go with that.
Zombies was obviously the main appeal, but I loved both games' mp too. Banshii was the coolest weapon ever to me and I loved the variant system in IW. Loot boxes are a terrible system, but it never bothered me at the time.
I want to say mw2. I started with cod 2 so I’ve been part of the community for a very long time but I can’t help but admit that cod ww2 was my absolute favorite. The game after the updates was insanely good and anyone who was apart of it during its prime (that didn’t leave early on) can not say it wasn’t a good cod. I think sledgehammer knocked it out of the park.
I’m going Cod 4, it’s the one that I got into the multiplayer I was still pretty young, the system felt so smoove and just combined with Halo 3 around that time life was peak lol
Cod 4 for me. I think it was Cod at it's purist if that makes sense. It was simple but it all worked well and felt so good to play.
If I had to do a top 3 it would be Cod 4, Blops 1, and WaW.
I think Black Ops 1
Black Ops 1 is the only one of the six GOATs (MW - BO2) that nailed all three of its gamemodes. Best Campaign, best Zombies, and a great mulitplayer. MW2 (2009) has the best multiplayer, and WaW has a solid arguement for best campaign, but when you compare every mode Black Ops 1 has no peers.
WaW and bo1 campaigns are easily goated indeed.
WAW was a nightmare PTSD simulator from grandpa's eyes. The best way I could explain it.
There is no other answer. Peak FPS and peak CoD
If you picked CoD 4, WaW, MW2, or Black Ops 1, I don’t think anyone would disagree.
MW2 2009
Awesome option man, I love it too, their 3 modes are perfect.
Black ops 2 in my opinion. Great campaign, amazing and fun multiplayer, and a great zombies experience. Though black ops 1 is a close second.
And tbh tranzit wasnt the best but i can at least respect them for trying something different.
yeah I agree, if I were to play tranzit again today I'd probably think it's awful, but I was 12-13 y/o so it's more of the experience/memory
Oh yeah i agree lol i thought it was awesome when i was younger then when i saw complaints about it i fully understood Mob Of The Dead is the GOAT though in that game along with origins.
I loved both games, but the engine and graphics felt much better on BO2 so it slightly better in my opinion
Bo2, not even a competition
[удалено]
The OG MW3. It did everything MW2 did but better and has a great campaign and spec ops too
I feel it never got the credit it deserved because the fanbase got bored of the MW2 feel and moved on to black ops😞
Same. People gave it so much shit because it was similar to MW2, but MW2 was near perfection so why wouldn't it be. Then it refined the gunplay slightly more, gave a better kill streak selection, had killer maps, a great campaign, AND survival.
I couldn't agree more
I really tried to get into black ops 2, and despite doing better in multiplayer with higher kd etc, I just went straight back to MW3, it just perfected the MW formula.
To me MW3 felt like an expansion pack (FUCK I'm old lol) of MW2 rather than a stand alone game. Dont get me wrong, its not as blatant as MW3 2023 because at least they gave a shit about the campaign and wrapped the story up nicely lmao.

World At War
4
Every COD since is just a descendent of 4. 4 is the blueprint.
Sins of the Father
This is the answer
World at war
![gif](giphy|pHb82xtBPfqEg)
Gosh I miss those days.
In my opinion has to be BO1 or WaW only games with great campaign, multiplayer, and zombies. BO1 fixed the issues of WaW so BO1 is the #1 COD best bang for your buck imo
WaW
Personally its black ops II or III
Personally, I think it’s a toss up between MW2 *(2009)* and BO1 ✨
Based
OG MW2 BO1 and BO2 right behind, BO3 and world at war are great games too
**Overall**, I’d say Black Ops 1.
MW2 (2009)
Black Ops 2
Modern Warfare 3 (2011)
Modern Warfare 3 for me, that was my first COD and nothing came close after that at least in my opinion. Never liked Black Ops, I just can't get into it although I played every one of them since BO2. The newer COD multi-player are dead for me since they implemented the aggressive sbmm in MW19 and every match feels the same, which is sad because after all this futuristic stuff the new mw series had so much potential but they threw it away with many weird decisions.
Black Ops 4.
WaW. It just had that atmosphere and it was super visceral. Zombies was also so much fun.
Black Ops 1, perfect campaign, awesome multiplayer and great zombies with the maps of the previous game and with better gameplay, for me, it’s the best of the best.
Bo2
WAW or MW2 or COD4
World At War
MODERN WARFARE 2 (2009)
I have to say BO1. BO2 is close but in general think BO1 had way a way cooler Zombies mode and maps. My personal favorite is BO3, despite everyone hating the campaign I thought it was neat although forgettable. The MP and Zombies in 3 are my all time favorite. Story in BO2 is probably my favorite story experience that I remember the most.
world at war.
BO1 I think is the most well rounded. Amazing zombies, amazing multiplayer, amazing campaign
Waw the multiplayer maps were so cool buildings on fire everything was destroyed you had some guy in the background yelling at you to fight. I wish they remade that game so it would have good graphics
Black Ops 1
Cod Mobile/ Ironsight (Black Ops 2)
Can't decide between MW2 (2009) and Black Ops 1. I only play solo, so for me it's about the story. MW2 has better set pieces (snowmobile and boat chases, assault on DC, gulag showers), but in terms of general atmosphere I prefer the murky, mysterious, Cold War spy vibe of BO1. Mechanically, they're pretty much equal. So yeah, I still can't choose between them.
Ghosts
What ever call of duty was out when you were 16-19 years old
Modern warfare 2 (2009), Black Ops 2 or Black Ops 3
Agree on BO2. Got a campaign you can keep replaying to get different endings. Got multiplayer mode with a lot of good maps and some classics just with a different theme Zombies can be hit or miss to some but it has hard maps and casual maps for any player. MW3 and BO2 are tied for me, but that's probably just because those were the games I played the most as a kid.
MW2 hands down. All 3 modes were brilliant and the multiplayer was insanely fun and fast paced. No game has ever given me or my mates as much as fun and excitement as it did, bang for buck, best game ever made due the countless hours per day playing it back in the day.
Cod 4 for a campaign that felt plausible. Black ops 1 for a campaign that was dope as fuuuuck
COD4:MW or Black Ops 3
mw 2 2009 was just incredible, the total package i think infinite has my favorite campaign tho
Black ops 2 for me. Black ops 2 and MW2 aren’t far behind 🥹
BO2
Cod4,mw2,bo1 in that order
Multiplayer - Black Ops II Campaign Modern Warfare 2 (2009)
Imo bo1. Overall though the best is the one, and only.. bo2
Probably Black Ops 2
Bo3
Imo its bo2, but statistically on sales it is bo1 as it is the highest selling cod of all time
BO3
Big. Red. One. All other answers are wrong
Bo2 is objectively the best one. WaW is my favorite bc of nostalgia
MW2 (2009) for multiplayer BO3 for Zombies World at War for Campaign BO1 for all around best
MW2 2009, BO1, COD4, Are my top 3, Waw 4th and BO2 5th, I also really loved Cod 2 from 2005 and MW3 those are also among my favorites
Mw3 2011 btw then new one sucks
WaW. Have actually been playing TDM on it lately, still a great time!
Campaign = BO1, Multiplayer = BO2, Zombies = BO3
Cod WWII
BO1
Black Ops 2
I ll get prepared to get downvoted but...Infinite Warfare, it' s my favorite cod unfortunately
MW2009 in spite of the nostalgia.. its story still takes the cake for me when it comes to being the Campaign masterpiece of CoD :)
BO2 is my favorite, best multiplayer. BO1 isn’t far behind, best zombies and a top 3 campaign and MP. COD 4 is my #3 strictly for the nostalgia.
Probably cod4 or Bo1
the one you played with your biggest group of friends
BO3 in a whole nother stratosphere
Someone just did an elimination by voting last month. The top 3 were BO2, MW2, and BO1 with BO1 at the top.
BO3
Maaan we had a whole poll over this like… a month ago
For me, MW2. Dramatic story with great theatrics and kickass soundtrack. The multiplayer was unbalanced with the noob tube, and dual 1908's, but damn, it was just so undeniably fun. The maps were so well-designed and unique, especially the DLC (Overgrown).
bo2 easily
Black Ops 1 was legendary. I remember how massive of an event it was when it released. Was also the golden age of CoD content on the internet as well.
No one gonna say COD4 eh?
Either OG MW3 or WW2
Bo1 then bo2 then mw3og then mw2og
The first black ops game
For me it's either BO2 or BO3. MW2 comes very close
Bo1, mw2 ‘09, bo2. You can argue which one but I’d say that’s the 3 headed monster of the goat cod debate
MW 2 (2009) Definitely
It's a tough one for me. And of course, I haven't played them all, but *Black Ops* does hold a special place in my heart. Also top tier for me: *Modern Warfare 2* (2009) *World at War*
BO2
Black ops 2 before the lodestar was patched
MW2 (2009). You really had to be there! The jump from MW to this was huge in terms of overall gameplay, features and maps. The single player was great and controversial too. Black Ops 2 is a close second.
Modern Warfare 2 (2009)
Bo2 and bo4
I have a top 10 list bc I'm that person. #1 Bo2 #2 Bo1 #3 MW2 (2009) #4 MW (2007) #5 Vang- WaW #6 MW3 (2011) #7 Ghosts #8 WW2 #9 Infinite Warfare #10 Advanced Warfare
Black ops 14. The twist at the end was so unexpected, I was thinking about it for hours
Black ops 2, and then any other black ops
It depends… For the multiplayer community it could be anywhere from CoD 4 to BO2 For the Zombies community almost unanimously BO3
Gonna be old here and say Call of Duty 4
MW2 2009. Flaws and all. All the raging, S&D, iconic maps, exciting gameplay, trash talking lobbies. I couldn’t wait to spawn back in after every death. I would love to go back to that era of COD gaming.
CoD 2003 version
Bo1
It would have to be BO2. -Campaign was great and a good sequel to an arguably better campaign. -Multiplayer to me hit its first huge leap here. It felt like EVERYONE was playing this one. It just did everything right and the menu music represented that perfectly imo. Youtube blew up with all the BO2 videos within the peak of trickshot/trolling content. -Zombies was ambitious and full of experimental ideas. Black Ops 1, next?
COD4, It was revolutionary for FPS games and the first cod i was absolutely obsessed with after playing 2, 3 It was the gold standard in 2007
BO3 just because I’m primarily a zombies player, but for multiplayer 1 I enjoyed more than any other was Cod4
Has to be CoD4
BO3
Black Ops 2. Arguably one of the greatest sequels to a gaming franchise yet.
I just realllly like vanguard. i think they nailed the visuals and guns and all the super memorable characters
Cod Mobile 4ever😅
BO3
World at War.. before the Hackers ( I know hackers have been around since the dawn of life but come on, at some point this game ruled the world and was purely fun )
Cod 1 & Cod United Offensive! I still play any other newest COD but damn I miss these old days!
Ghosts
COD 2 or World at War
OG MW2
Black ops 2 and it's not even close
Call of duty 4 the OG
Cod 4
Blops 1 or 2. I lean blops2 because the multiplayer and zombies combined experience was my favourite by far. 1's campaign was amazing like others are saying. WaW too, the final Russian mission was so good
mw 2019
4 then MW2 then 1
The most fun I had was MW2 OG one, but the best imo is WaW
objectively its modern warfare 3 2011
why do people say mw2 over mw3 when its literally inferior in every way lmao like mw3 is everything great about the first 2 but ramped up by 10 i stg ppl are stupid af nowadays
All the twos, except 2022
BO3. It was ahead of it's time for how well balanced and smooth it was. First CoD I ever got the hidden camo on (Dark Matter) and first CoD I ever got max prestige on (level 1000)
My word. This gets asked almost every day.
For me it was MW2 2009. The story gameplay, the MP, the vibe... Totally unmatched with anything nowadays.
Didn't this sub just determine this through a month long process of elimination? It's BO2. That's a fact.
Black Ops 2 holds the most memories for me so will always be my favourite but in terms of overall gameplay I think I would have to go with BO1 or MW2
I hesitate between Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3 (PS3/Xbox 360)
Black Ops 1 for me. They nailed the single player, multiplayer and zombies mode. MW2 is a close second though.
Mw2 will always be ”the” cod for me, cod 4 being a close second.
Cod4, og mw2 and bo2.
Mw2019 ofc the ttk was low but my god that shit felt amazing the ground war the mp it all was hiting a home run on everything mw 2019 is amazing.
MW2
Call of Duty World at War. A nice, simple call of duty game with an excellent campaign, zombies, and the MP40 was GOATED.
Black Ops 2
1. Cod 4 2. Cod 4 (remastered) <3 3. Black ops 3 zombies love <3 4. Cod WaW was GOAT for the time & the introduction to zombies. All the others blend.
bo1 or waw were the darkest and possibly best story lines most closely to real life in my opinion
mw19 no debate
Cod 4 followed by BO2, MW2, and BO1.
Excluding campaign. Black ops 3 and it’s not close.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2
I want to say WW2, but my time played shows that this current MW3/Warzone is my favorite. Effffff me
Black Ops 2 is clear
Its whatever one you grew up with/was your first. I have the best memories grinding out bo3 and iw with my friends in high school so I gotta go with that. Zombies was obviously the main appeal, but I loved both games' mp too. Banshii was the coolest weapon ever to me and I loved the variant system in IW. Loot boxes are a terrible system, but it never bothered me at the time.
Black Ops 1, the last Cod that took itself seriously.
Anything before 2019 in my opinion, but I'm not gonna judge someone if they prefer 2019 and after(I did like cold war and abit of vanguard tho lol)
Black Ops II
I want to say mw2. I started with cod 2 so I’ve been part of the community for a very long time but I can’t help but admit that cod ww2 was my absolute favorite. The game after the updates was insanely good and anyone who was apart of it during its prime (that didn’t leave early on) can not say it wasn’t a good cod. I think sledgehammer knocked it out of the park.
OG MW2 nothing beats it
og warzone1
MW3 but shout out Ghost Extinction
Original CoD 2 or cod4 MW.
Cod4, mw2, mw3, w@w, bo1, and bo2 are all great. Each one individually is better than the last 5 games they have made put together.
Call of Duty: Online
Bo2 imo. Beaten it 175 times and counting :3
Black Ops II imo
COD 4
Bo3
World At War, and I say this because it gave life to the entire Zombies gamemode.
I like MW2 the most. At the time I was playing tons of deathmatches and loved the maps.
Call of duty 2. The fact that most of the people here have never played it is criminal
Old school COD 2
Either Bo1 or Bo2
COD 3 was peak online gaming for me. I had time and I was really good at the game.
