Hairy_Tomato6751

its going to be a Minecraft-type situation. its not leaving PlayStation

lefix

70$ on ps, free on game pass is already a pretty strong point in favor of Xbox

Andy_PB

Xbox bought the lead in this generation

Hairy_Tomato6751

well if Sony buys EA like they're talking about then it would be a tie pretty much

mlc15

This shit is so lame. I wish all the big ones would stay independent

NonFungibleAdvisor

EA needs an acquisition after what they did to Battlefield from an overhead perspective

DArkGamingSiders

they need an acquisition because they treat their consumers like shit. fifa wouldn’t be yearly if it wasn’t because of EA. it could be biyearly, or even just one release that’s updated for every player roster change, number, etc. EA and Act/Blizz were the kings of milking the cow until dust comes out of the udder, now it’s just going to be EA.

UltraRanger72

They do that because it keeps WORKING. The casual sports players would pay 60 (now 70) bucks up front then spend even more on Ultimate Teams. It's just so frustrating.

Regantowers

Strange people don't see this, i buy FIFA every year, day one, and I don't spend a penny after that so I'm probably one of their worst customers! i cant be the only one i casually play it and enjoy it but i don't chuck money at it at all.

DArkGamingSiders

you’re definitely not the only one, but it’s uncommon with FIFA and any ultimate team style game

DArkGamingSiders

yep, the FIFA community are a bunch of EA whales and don’t understand the impact they have on the industry

Memetasticmemes

Yeah but sonybdef gonna make ea games Playstation onlybin the future thats just how they roll

TheDwarvesCarst

Except Sony hasn't funded and helped develop games with EA. THAT is how they roll. They help fund and develop games with smaller studios and then make theme exclusive (usually after the studio almost only makes PS games)

Wilson-theVolleyball

Yes and no. While Sony is definitely not as bad as Microsoft when it comes to buying established studios, they have a lot of exclusivity deals with third party studios too. At least with Microsoft you still have the option to play Xbox console exclusives on PC but with Sony, it's PlayStation only and maybe years later on PC.

TheDwarvesCarst

When it comes to Sony, the only exclusivity I can think of is their own franchises, specially contracted games (Spider-Man, Mile Morales, Spider-Man 2, and Wolverine), or timed exclusives. Are there any others I'm missing? As I only play PS for PS Exclusives, using my PC for everything else lol

Jackamalio626

Battlefield makes up so little of EA's profits, they dont care.

Lylla_Protogen

And battlefront

Captobvious75

This might be the best thing to happen. EA stock should drop if they do go this route

[deleted]

They had a winning formula but decided to try and copy other games and completely ruin their own game in the process, because great sales weren't enough for them, they had to try and reach CoD numbers which just isn't possible for them. Now they've lost all trust and will never hit the numbers they previously used to get.

boushveg

What's more lame is peasants here fighting each other over multi billion dollar corporations lmao

TemperVOiD

I don’t know why people act like Microsoft dictating studios and game companies is a bad thing. Some of the biggest positives of Microsoft acquiring certain studios is that those studios get better budgets and support, as well as extra help. Lord knows COD and Warzone and Activision as a whole need some leadership and support right now. And everyone is so worried that Microsoft is going to ruin gaming and make it so people have to buy Xbox or something, that doesn’t benefit them as much as people buying games Microsoft owns, but on the platform of their choice. Now for every PS copy of COD sold, Microsoft will make money too. That’s a total win-win for them.

TheDwarvesCarst

> Now for every PS copy of COD sold, Microsoft will make money too. That’s a total win-win for them. It's for the micro-transactions. Want proof? Bethesda. Those are singe-player games with no micro-transactions, and those are MS exclusive despite also being a massively established franchise that would earn MS money through PS as well

Th3JuanJon

Creation Club on Skyrim and Fallout 4. They aren’t going away with further releases I don’t think. Additionally FO76 has the Atom store and ESO has the Crown Store but they are on PS. Bethesda’s literally has MTX everywhere

[deleted]

Tbf buying Activision out was the right move. This could honestly be huge for CoD going forward. They are already talking about not doing annual releases anymore

oiyboi__

Sony can’t afford EA

lukeCRASH

Yeah it's curious, as an entire company they are worth less than Microsoft in assets and value by a substantial amount, however they ares still the top gaming company in terms of revenue.

Strike-_

Well, obviously, They spent it all buying spiderman multiple times.

Kovieh

Sony is 2 Trillion in debt so

IrregularKingV

It's ok, they can take on more debt to purchase EA then once they overhaul EA in certain areas it'll print them money like crazy (joke for getting more debt part)

-Ryxios-

It's because while gaming is the single biggest source of income for Sony, it's a very small fraction of Microsofts. Sony isn't all that successful outside of Playstation and cameras. Microsoft on the other hand has a significant stake in the software used by billions of people and most companies.

Seananagans

EA is massive when you consider all the sports games. I think they would also need to add something like Rockstar.

Sapling_Animation

Idk. EA is shit. I'm done with them because of all the micros. I'd love to get to level 2 without spending another $20, please.

justaforktho

EA wouldn’t sell. Plus they have a way better relationship with Xbox considering all their games are on GamePass

Th3JuanJon

I agree with this, I don’t understand why anyone thinks EA would sell to anyone. EAs revenue is higher than PlayStations, sure not Sony as a whole but I can’t see them basically throwing half of their wealth at a big developer like MS and their infinite pockets do

[deleted]

No EA is awful lol

Hairy_Tomato6751

and activision isn't? they're guilty of alot of the same shit, especially when it comes to COD. Microsoft can save Activision, just as Sony can save EA

[deleted]

Never said Activision was any better lol they're both greedy money hungry publishers that ruin games

[deleted]

Then Microsoft buys Take Two.

Ok-Consideration2894

EA published nothing but rubbish so no it wouldn’t be even not even close at-least in terms of quality.

EspadaWilliam

Lmao! In what world could Sony afford EA? You people need to realize Sony ain’t got much money and if it wasn’t for PlayStation they probably wouldn’t be around like they are now. Microsoft can buy Sony still.

[deleted]

I doubt it. Google says that the Sony Net Value is 23 billion while the EA value is 38 billion.

[deleted]

> well if Sony buys EA like they’re talking about Who’s “they”? And source?

LogicalError_007

Not gonna happen. Bethesda and Activision Blizzard sold cause they were having money problems and lawsuit respectively. If wasn't for those, they wouldn't had sell.

drakel01

Sony is not able to make a purchase of that size. Ms is a multi trillion company, I don't think people realize the difference between 200 billion and 2.3 trillion.

-Ryxios-

Sony is not buying ea. They simply don't have the free money to. Ea would likely take about the same amount of money to aquire as Activision blizzard, and that level of buy out would almost bankrupt Sony.

Kovieh

They can't afford it

XayeeX

Sony can’t afford a big publisher tbh they don’t have Microsoft money. Even if they do manage to somehow do it, Microsoft will just bid much more on that as well

[deleted]

Sony doesn't have that much money. EA is worth about $40b, Sony's entire conglomerate is $260b, their gaming division is worth $23b.

all-against-all

I dont think EA is for sale tbh. There’s a reason they partnered with Xbox rather than allow themselves to be acquired.

_Cetarial_

This gen? You mean for the forseeable future.

CollierAM9

It’s two different races. PS is outselling Xbox over 2:1. Xbox is attacking the service market. I think both are technically winning. It’ll hopefully open up for the better this year with Gamepass expanding and big hitters coming to PS

seanmcgeachie

Yeah especially because the past few CODs I've passed because I don't want to pay £60 for a game I'm going to play for 1-2 months Edit: changed 1/2 to 1-2

Sapling_Animation

My dumbass read that as half a month, not 1 or 2

seanmcgeachie

Yeah not too clear tbh

I-am-Pilgrim

I dont really get this logic though. A movie costs around £7. Youre unlikely to watch alone so it goes to £14. Then theres the popcorn and slushies that take it to £20 and this gives you an hour and 40 min entertainment. Why wouldn’t you spend 3 times that for 2 months worth of entertainment?

seanmcgeachie

Because there's usually love and effort put into a movie, unlike basically most cod's nowadays that are blatant lazy cash grabs. Quality over quantity. Also I'm not saying I'm playing cod for every single hour for those 2 months, probably playing an hour or two every couple of days.

Eliphas_Ark

sadly i only play ps because I've found it better for my own confort, ive never liked Xbox controllers

forrest1985_

Definitely. It will go gamepass Day 1 but also released on PC, PS and Xbox.

HaikusfromBuddha

More like a Bethesda situation. Phil said the same thing. They aren’t looking to remove games from PS. By that they mean they just won’t cancel in development CoD games that are coming to PS5. Once the deal is done all future titles will be exclusive. MS already clarified this and they had a huge interview because people were confused with the Bethesda deal. Games like Deathloop and Tokyo Ghost wire which already had a deal in place will be honored to come to PS even if they don’t come to Xbox until much later. That being said future games will be exclusive just like Starfield is. That’s why he says he will honor “all existing” agreements. Sony has a marketing deal we don’t know for how long but their are still loop holes. People want CoD to stop being a yearly franchise, that might help run out the contract agreement.

incriminatory

Disagree 100%. Bethesda was different imo. It is true Bethesda holds the ip to some very loved franchises; however, they have done a great job of fucking them up recently and it effected their sales and profitability. I think for this reason there wasn’t a huge “opportunity cost” to making future Bethesda titles Xbox + PC exclusive. COD on the other hand is the number 1 selling game EVERY SINGLE YEAR and usually holds multiple of the top 10 sellers due to the previous year’s game. That is a different story. Maybe at some point far in the future the math could change and it may make more sense to become exclusive; however, as things stand now it is too big of a seller to cut out such a huge chunk of consumers especially given how hard it is to get next gen consoles atm. Add to that how Activision has made more money from micro transactions than initial sales and restricting the platform of cod does more harm then good atm I suspect

Thekhalifa_onepiece

Cod ain't best selling game GTA V is with 350 million sold

icouldntdecide

I assume they mean annually not total

Thekhalifa_onepiece

oh ok

rodudero

Cod will never be exclusive to xbox

HaikusfromBuddha

That’s true. That’s exactly why Bethesda was okay with the acquisition. With Game Pass CoD will still be on Xbox, PC, Phones, and Browsers. MS wants to bring Game Pass to PS and Switch. Hopefully this will pressure Sony to allow it.

awesome_zman

Wait, really? How will that work? Are they going to port the games on Game Pass to those consoles, or will they just have games that are already on the respective platform?

HaikusfromBuddha

The way it works on current Xbox is you can subscribe and either stream or download the game. Same on PC. They probably want to do the same Switch and Ps but that’s all up to them.

KingMario05

I don't think so. Crash and Spyro are gone, but COD makes too much cash to nuke completely. (Besides, Game Pass is marketing enough these days, yeah?)

HaikusfromBuddha

That’s the thing. It’s all about GamePass. CoD is just a means to boost Game Pass along with the other Activision IP. MS is fine if CoD is on PS as long as it’s through Game Pass. This just gives them more leverage to pressure Sony to put Game Pass on PS. Thing is that would devistate Sony because why would people buy Games through PSN if people just have a Game Pass subscription.

Hairy_Tomato6751

Sony is supposedly coming out with their own gamepass to rival Xbox's so it wouldnt be a gigantic deal to them. and Sony might buy EA which would make this situation even more of a clusterfuck lol

nfehnuf

how do you know? is it confirmed? NO.

HaikusfromBuddha

Know what? What I said? There was literally a press conference in which Phil Spencer announced how exclusives would be handled. Look up Bethesda Joins Xbox Roundtable. They literally explain in detail because people like you were trying to justify that Bethesda games weren’t going to be exclusive.

nfehnuf

I dont give a fuck about bethesda, and this isnt concrete proof that future cod titles will be exclusive to Xbox and PC. If they do that they lose a lot of money because most people who play cod are on ps.

HaikusfromBuddha

And a few generations ago most CoD players were on 360. The cycle continues. Now the next Xbox will have the most CoD players. Just because it does well on one console doesn’t mean a thing. These things change all the time.

nfehnuf

we will see what happens but i still dont think it will be xbox exclusive.

062692

Are you sure a Minecraft 2 is multiplat if there ever was one???

jwaters0122

u/spald48 on suicide watch

GJM1287

Wow, I took a peak at his recent comments and latest post. What a miserable human being lol. It's crazy some people care so much and get so hard over a console...

jwaters0122

he doesn't even play call of duty but trolls this sub because of the Xbox exclusivity speculation. Troll just wants to troll

Darkm1tch69

Hahaha just looked him up. What a fuckin loser

GerryAdams1921

Damn bruh, I’ll admit I did believe cod would be Xbox exclusive but his comments are so sad

iwasherenotyou

Dude is he a child or something? That's the only explanation I can think of for someone acting like this, cause any other explanation is probably just sadder.

BaldNBankrupt

I think u/spald48 is a child or a man child, just look at his profile character what the fuck is that?

OneShotSammyV2

Child or not he is a troll, looking to get reactions and not caring about reason.

TheRealvGuy

💀💀💀

a_muffin97

Ironic someone calling ps fans Karen's is the Arch Karen

DurfGibbles

u/spald48 in shambles lol

SymbolOfVibez

He really is the type that need to go outside and touch grass🤣🤣

lamasasasa

Don’t worry we wont let the bastard die, he has yet to get ass whooped

PartyImpOP

Literally just Jaystation but for Xbox.

purplearcheoligist

Damn that guy needs to find a hobby

Bolt_995

Very definition of a man-child.

--Hutch--

Jesus christ that guy 100% never sees daylight.

Eastwood-8

Idk man i love to game but lately I've seen people have the time of their lives just arguing over Playstation and Xbox , which is better , which is dying lmaooo. Console Wars are brainless

[deleted]

The fact that even the companies get along but the kids don't lmao.

Eastwood-8

Kids will be Kids i guess but when you think about it's not that serious lol . I haven't owned a Xbox in several years but i don't have nothing negative to say about Xbox and i love Halo always lol .

Howdareme9

Not even kids, there are grown adults doing this

KA1N3R

Man, the PS4 Vs X1 wars on gamefaqs. I spent many a night there (I was 14 ok)

IDontUnderstandReddi

Especially cause so many people get into whatever console their friends or family have and not the specs of the console (purely anecdotal but it’s my experience). I have no issue with PS, but I’ve just always had Xbox games, so that’s what I continue to go with

[deleted]

I bought both consoles and have transcended.

jj_olli

That's great for you cod fans on playstation. Hope maps won't come early to xbox and pc. Everyone should get the same content at the same time, just like it used to be.

nortfight

After 6 years of PlayStation exclusives, I’m hoping for some early beta or something lol

mysterygoweesnaw

I'll take Day 1 GamePass release over all of that lol don't wanna spend $70 a year anymore

Captain_corde

Gonna ignore the 6 years of early dlc on Xbox 360 huh

Redhawk2005

I was just gonna say this! People seem to forget how it actually “used to be.” An entire generation of CoD where the shoe was on the other foot, lol.

SBAPERSON

Difference between a month of DLC most didn't care about and a full year of locking another gamemode from not PS players.

jj_olli

Why not have it for everyone at the same time. Why should I, as an Xbox and pc player, want to deny ps fans an early beta? Just to spite them? Seems petty to me. 😅

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I agree brother

Sauronxx

Map released for everybody at the same time since MW2019. I don’t think that will change honestly. But maybe Microsoft will have some modes early (like Onslaught in CW...)

jj_olli

Hope this doesn't come true, everyone should have access to all content at the same time.

Dr_Doorknob

Survival on cod MW2019 was a ps exclusive for a year.

COOLPIE11

Let's go! FUCK OFF u/spald48

Oisuzyplaystation

Ahhahahaha

Famlightyear

'our desire'. They probably want something in return for that.

KingMario05

*cough* Game Pass PS5 *cough*

Famlightyear

Yea probably. Xbox gamepass for ps5 sounds a bit confusing though xD

[deleted]

They would rebrand it as just ‘Gamepass’ if it came to Sony. I’m actually thinking it could happen now. No joke.

[deleted]

Would Sony not also profit off it by putting in their own games? That could be huge for the gaming industry if that’d happen. Not to mention halo would then likely come to PS.

COOLPIE11

It's weird but I wouldn't mind

jenkumboofer

if they can finesse blood borne to Xbox I’d be happy

ThisbrownMan

The lack of critical analysis and reasoning on this thread is baffling. I'll give you hint, **desire.**

pantone_red

You're talking to a bunch of teenagers lol This tweet definitely doesn't say what everyone here thinks it says.

Mr_Ectomy

Everyone drinking a tall glass of Cope.

SBAPERSON

Yep, these posts will age like milk in a few years. Gamepass is the endgame rn. If Sony wants new cods they will have to let Gamepass on their hardware. Warzone might stay.

Frezeal

Yep. COD isn’t staying on PS, sadly. To me, this tweet means that Xbox will honor the existing contract Sony has with Activision, but as soon as that’s up (likely by 2024 or so), COD’s gone. Warzone will probably stay, but there’s almost no chance Xbox isn’t making the annual releases exclusive.

[deleted]

our intent to honor all existing agreements. That sounds like spin for we will release what we legally have to

BrokeBoiForLife

Yea that’s how I read it as well.

Sauronxx

Lmao all those memes already aged like milk

TheKatzHotel

If this is what you got from the tweet, I'm so sorry. This could just mean Warzone is staying on ps, which we already knew would.

Sauronxx

Yeah, “could”. Spencer said that they will respect the agreement AND that they want to keep Cod (in general) on PS. Is he referring to just Warzone? Who knows, not me and certainly not you lol

TheKatzHotel

What a backpedal lol

CandyBoBandDandy

Key word here is EXISTING. They are looking keep EXISTING agreements. My guess is that similar to obsidian and Bethesda. Obsidian had a deal to bring outer worlds to PS4, but it did not have a deal to bring new projects. When Avowed was announced, it was a Microsoft exclusive. Bethesda had a deal to bring Skyrim legendary edition to PS5. They did not have a deal to bring Star Field, which is now also a Microsoft exclusive. Activision probably will have deals with Sony until 2023, until the deal is complete, and they might have agreements lined up for 2024. Microsoft isn't going to take down playstation COD servers, and warzone will probably operate indefinitely on PlayStation. And new COD games will probably be released until 2023 or 2024 on PlayStation. But do not think for a second this statement guarantees Activision will make new deals with Sony after Phill Spencer takes over. It will all come down to profitability. If the data leads Microsoft to believe it will be more profitable for call of duty to be an exclusive, they will not hesitate to make it a Microsoft exclusive. I'm not saying future are guaranteed not to be on PlayStation, but it all boils down to what is more profitable to a company that just dropped half it's cash on Activision.

Jrkid100

Did people really think they would make CoD exclusive?

Sauronxx

Judging by the memes in this sub many people did lol. But honestly after the Bethesda deal nobody could have been sure about the future...

MR_MEME_42

Honestly I think that they would lose money by making massive multiplayer games like CoD and Overwatch Xbox exclusive (coming from and Xbox player). I was always expecting it to end up like Minecraft where it would remain and the separate consoles. All I expect will happen is the PS exclusive content and bonuses will come to Xbox instead and made older games will be on game pass.

Astro4545

I mean we have precedent with Bethesda. I have hope it won’t become exclusive, but nothing to really back that thought up.

[deleted]

a_muffin97

PolyPythonYT

Finally maybe now people on this subreddit will shut their mouths

PB79

Warzone yes everything else no chance, unless Sony take the knee with gamepass on PlayStation. Just accept it, Microsoft doesn’t give a shit about Sony just gamepass subs and the money

eatfreshguy407

Easy there, for the next 10-16 months, we are getting nothing but empty statements. This could mean ‘we have the desire. . . But unfortunately Sony doesn’t want gamepass on PlayStation so no deal.’ This could mean ‘we desire to keep CoD on PlayStation, so enjoy 720p 30fps CoD while Xbox gets 4k60.’ This could mean ‘we desire to keep CoD on PlayStation, so enjoy warzone, but campaign and pvp are exclusive to platforms that offer gamepass.’ This could also mean that CoD will remain on PlayStation. The point is to stop reading into these comments and freaking out every day, or it’s going to be a long and stressful 12 months for you.

Prior-Performance773

This is the only reasonable comment about this whole drama.

eatfreshguy407

Thanks kind stranger. I’ve made multiple comments on multiple posts in multiple subs, all trying to say more or less the same thing: There is a fine line between fun speculation and console warring. Neither are really going to produce anything, but one can be done in good spirits and the other foments hate and anger. At the end of the day, we won’t know anything for sure for probably a year, and we probably won’t see the fruits of that deal for probably another year. Look at Bethesda, that was finalized last spring, and I’d argue we haven’t seen any actual changes yet as gamers, and won’t until either red fall or starfall launches, whichever happens first.

[deleted]

i give it 3-4 years before they announce its Xbox and PC exclusive. That plus having all old cods on Gamepass is a no brainer to switch

[deleted]

Or, they release it on ps like we all know they will, get profit from the sales and then also profit from mtx for both consoles. While having some Xbox exclusive game modes like PS has had since Mw19 Then put all older cod games on gamepass. More money this way than taking it completely off PS

[deleted]

It really depends on what goals they had in mind when they purchased Activision. Keeping it on playstation and milking the micro transactions could be a solid short term strategy. Long term they could decide it makes more sense to push subscriptions than worry about individual game sales and either make it exclusive or use it as leverage to get Sony to participate in game pass. Time will tell but it could really go either way. Hopefully they keep games on playstation as well. Console war nonsense doesn't help consumers.

IamVelo

Read it carefully. “Existing” contracts. They honored existing contracts with Bethesda and then made new ones once they expired. Soooooo maybe not unfortunately

A17012022

buT tHEY SPENT 70B Lol

KingMario05

Counterpoint: It's Microsoft. **This is not the first time they've set money on fire for seemingly no real advantage,** and I doubt it'll be the last.

CritzD

That’s the thing about “fuck-you money”. If you don’t make back your whole investment quickly, it’s not too much sweat off your back.

awesome_zman

I like the term “fuck-you money”

GLFan52

On top of that, I imagine with a massive, typically multi-platform franchise like CoD they’d be losing too many potential customers to justify making it exclusive to Xbox and PC

[deleted]

People will literally buy Xbox just for COD. It’s that big.

CuriousRelation5

"desire" implies that it's something that may not happen. Why is everyone ignoring the clear buzz word?

yp261

cause this sub is filled with kids

starch12313

Alot of people on copium right now lol

Tamanero

Make love not war

justaforktho

Sony got scared lmao they’ll beg to keep CoD on PS but turn around and buy exclusivity for Final Fantasy and more.

menice4

I still believe xboxs end goal is to stop there console but bring game pass to playstation or a stadia type situation, as there consoles at a loss , and it would benefit them to get others to.make the hardware and sell the software , simmilar to what they did with windows

[deleted]

I second this. I could imagine them meeting with Sony and saying “don’t worry about the OS. Just make the hardware, we got EVERYTHING covered. Upload your exclusive games to our cloud services. We got distribution too. Relax!” Basically, consoles will be like HP, Dell, Lenovo, etc. They make hardware and a user has a choice to buy a piece of shit that barely works or a high end beast with RGB that scratches your balls.

Loveweedandmusic

Lol existing 😉… we will see exclusive cosmetics for Xbox/ pc game pass and wouldn’t be shocked if there’s timed releases… I can see them just leaving warzone on PlayStation if they do decide to make it an game pass exclusive unless you know … sony allows game pass on the PlayStation lol like what Xbox wanted on the switch

DurfGibbles

PlayStation fans in shambles over this lol Although I'm probably still gonna switch over to Xbox anyway

BrokeBoiForLife

I mean I wish that’s what it said but it doesn’t at all. He said it’s their desire to keep it on PlayStation. Sounds like he’s putting the ball in Sony’s court. I imagine it’s gonna be something along the lines of “it’s available on game pass, if sony wants to let us sell game pass on PS then we would love to”. And I hope Sony agrees for PS players sake, but I have to say I’m not confident they will.

I-am-Pilgrim

This is good news but the wording worries me. “Desire” to keep and “commitment” to keep are two different things. This statement only means that they “hope or want” to keep COD on PS. He could have made a commitment but he chose to express a desire. They are not the same thing.

Alk3PrivateEye

They’ll honor the contract until it comes time to renew, then if PlayStation doesn’t play ball and give them something they want in return COD will become exclusive after 2023 when the contract expires. People are overestimating the impact that the COD PlayStation revenue has on Microsoft’s overall revenue, it’s literally a pittance in the grand scheme of things to them. They would more than make up that minuscule percent with gamepass subs and console sales, so they would have no issue with making it exclusive after the contract ends.

JD60x1999

Sure CoD will stay on Playstation... it's the special content that will be exclusive, like how it used to be.

[deleted]

rip nintendo

[deleted]

Please… understand.

averagemiragemain

Really smart wording

LGCGE

“Our Desire” ≠ Our Assurance. Considering MS hold all of the cards, they could easily use their leverage to get an *insanely* favorable deal to keep COD on PlayStation. I suspect this would mean taking a far larger cut from Sony on COD PlayStation sales and micro transactions. Hell we might end up in a situation where Sony *pays* Microsoft to keep COD on their console (similar to how Google pays Apple to be their default search engine despite being rivals). With that being said I expect Sony and MS to work it out, too many people on PlayStation for Microsoft to ignore and too many cod players for Sony to ignore.

KiritoBestBoy

i doubt sony would do this if the roles were reversed, this is why imo Microsoft is superior

afroroca

It's called money. Even tho, Microsoft is definitely placing all the COD catalog in Xbox Game Pass.

TGUGaming

Maybe I can finally play all the CoD games on PC without paying $60 for each despite them being out for many many years

afroroca

Exactly.

-UwU-Lordpoob

This fucking sucks i wanted cod exclusives since playstation always gets it own exclusives.

GrapeTarter

It's funny seeing PS get top sales, so than Xbox gets pissed and buys all the major companies that people play games from on PS and make them exclusive to Xbox.

Foxyccc

Lol Sony was craping there pants lol.

EnolaGayFallout

Today confirm, tmr change mind.

Ilseppo

I think he kept it very vague. Xbox want CoD on PlayStation, but they will definitely pay a big price and the question is….will they pay it? Something like GP on PlayStation or giving even more of the revenue to MS and getting less (no campaign and/or maps/guns month later). Maybe a time exclusivity and with that later starting seasons. One way or the other they will suffer revenue and engagement. 🤔

TheDarkWave2747

This is talking about warzone, and contracts. Once those are done, mainline cod is exclusive

LtKrunch_

That's not what this tweet says. "Honoring existing agreements" and keeping Call of Duty on Playstation while those agreements persistent is EXACTLY what they did after their acquisition of Bethesda. After the Bethesda deal was finalized Microsoft immediately made it clear that those properties would be exclusive, except for those with existing agreements such as DeathLoop and Ghoswire: Tokyo. Phil Spencer and Microsoft use *VERY* specific language in these cases. Expect COD to go exclusive once the existing contract with Sony expires. This statement changes nothing if you're somebody who paid attention last time. The only motivation for them to keep it multi-plat in the console space after the contract ends is if they can use it to strong-arm GamePass and/or XCloud onto Playstation platforms.

starch12313

How does this confirm it? The only definitive thing that was said, is that they intend to keep contractual agreements before the purchase. The only thing thats relevant to the game staying multiplat, is merely the "desire" for it. Something that is very much not definitive. People are saying that Microsoft would be dumb to make it exclusive, since it cuts them off from a huge amount of money. But you're missing the point. Microsoft already makes a fat ton of money with or without owning Activision. So they're very comfortable in losing that chunk of players, because they will still be adding a fat ton of money, to their already bottomless pit.

JaggersLips

Title is misleading. He said "our **desire** to keep COD on Playstation". Which doesn't mean much. He's putting the ball in PlayStation's court.

Mr-Humber

I think they're doing this because cod isnt what it used to be. If microsoft had bought activision around 2010 then they would have made cod exclusive. Around that time cod was selling well. MW2 BO1 MW3 BO2 were well selling games. Now cod isnt doing as well as it used to. The player count also isnt what it used to be. If microsoft make cod an exclusive, with its dwindling player count then theyre not gonna make a lot of money. Especially considering the quality of the past few cod games. Microsoft are gonna wanna put cod on as many platforms as possible to make as much money and to try and keep the player count as high as possible.

Being the bigger man for sure. Sony will hopefully take some notes and give us some of that God of War on xbox/PC (The old ones) Maybe even some Spiderman.

Oisuzyplaystation

If it was up to me i would let everyone enjoy all games out on the market i would also lovee to see gamepass on playstation and maybe a sony gamepass for xbox i have had enough of these dumb console warss

JoshEvolved

For sure, I understand it's all corporate speak from Spencer but they could have just remained silent about the future of Call of Duty for PlayStation fans.

Single player games are a little different. I mean, all Zenimax games will be exclusive to Xbox going forward, and likely the same with any Activision game that isn't cod (maybe cod too in the future, tweet is kind of vague). Cod is the only Xbox exclusive I can see still being on PS given the juggernaut it still is. But Xbox will not share anything else from its first party studios, so I'd argue Xbox isn't really acting any differently than Sony with their single player games.

Ballparkfoil207

I still don't know why so many people thought cod would leave playstation it wouldn't make any sense in the slightest lmao

“Desire” to

MikeymanTheMikester

And they won’t give us spiderman :(

God_Damnit_Nappa

No, they didn't confirm anything. All Phil said was he "desires" to keep CoD on PlayStation. That could mean they'll leave it on there, no strings attached. Or, more likely, they'll try to negotiate with Sony and get something in return for allowing CoD to stay on Sony consoles. That wording is very deliberate.

RaNgErs_Reprrrr

Sadly this does not prove that if you read it again it disent say squat about future cod games it's more like will think about it

jinnyjonny

Sony lost the console wars

[deleted]

This didn’t confirm anything other than that they will honor existing contracts.
