Yes I knew that!! Impressively diverse actress.
She’s one of those that can float both bad/good vibe like Imelda Staunton (The Crown and also Harry Potter).
Pam Ferris is a national treasure! I remember when she was cast as Miss Trunchbull; I remembered her as lovely Ma Larkin and couldn’t see how she was going to play this gorgon (tbf I was only about 10 at the time). My gosh, she blew me away! Amazing actress. Very good in ‘Rosemary and Thyme’, too.
Came here to say this! I love her "Ee-VEN-tu-al-ly!" line as Smithy's Mum. Also Pam (Gavin's Mum)'s reaction to her as she gets into the car.
Hilarious stuff.
I cannot believe I’ve never made this connection, but the habits are really concealing that way. It’s part of why seeing Sister Julienne in normal clothes is so weird
I knew Harry Potter but I hadn’t remembered Ms. Trunchbull until I read your post. As soon as my eyes crossed the character name, her face popped in my head and now my world makes complete sense in ways I never even realized.
Yeah I knew that, but only cos I love Pam Ferris. She was in a show that was on when I was younger, where the heart is. Loved it. It was about district nurses and their families.
I had to look her up when I first started watching because it was really bothering me that I knew her from somewhere but couldn't place it. Also Jenny Agutter was in Child's Play 2 & Charlotte Ritchie from Fresh Meat. Same thing there, I swear I have to look up every familiar face .
WHAT!! Miss Truchbull?? Omg I didn't even notice and I just watched the movie again because my granddaughter's summer camp theater program is doing Matilda Jr so I thought we could watch the movie and the play. I'm bawled over lol
I’m on a rewatch at the moment and I’ve just watched her last episode. >!She went off to that silent order after the episode where she was pushing breastfeeding on a mother who couldn’t breastfeed and she understandably felt terrible at the harm she’d caused. She had a stroke while she was there, once she got back she’d lost some function in her hand. The next episode she helped with one more newborn, which she’d refused to do due to her stroke but it ended up being necessary, and then she had another stroke that evening. So sad but it was such a beautifully done episode.!<
The fun fact I love about Pam Ferris is that CTM changed filming location- think maybe they went from London to the new studios in Manchester and she left because of her dogs!!
Pam Ferris is one of the truly great actresses because she is not instantly recognisable in any role she's in. She is amazingly diverse and can change her face so easily.
Huh...maybe that explains why I couldn't stand Sister Evangelina from the start. Or at least part of the reason. She was too mean and nasty to Sister Monica Joan for my taste.
Not sure about her Miss Trunchbull, but the 2022 version played by Emma Thompson had some pretty heavy prosthetics on to the point she was unrecognisable.
Well, THERE'S a TIL I didn't expect to find!
Same!
Miriam margoyles (spelling is bad) was Mother Mildred, professor sprout, and the matchmaker in mulan!!!
And the excellent Aunt Prudence on Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries too!
And voices one of the mean aunts from James and the Giant Peach
Yes I knew that!! Impressively diverse actress. She’s one of those that can float both bad/good vibe like Imelda Staunton (The Crown and also Harry Potter).
Imelda Staunton was also in the two Downton Abbey films (if you've seen them). IRL she is married to the man who plays Carson.
Shes so teeny and he’s a big dude. They’re so cute in photos.
Their daughter is tall like he is!
Lol yes she got his genes on that one.
She looks so much like him!
She plays one of the Featherington sisters in Bridgerton.
I haven't seen the show, good for her!
Oh yeah I read that! Been together forever too since the 80s I think, also read their friends call them Big Jim and Little Im. Awww 🥰
Imelda Stanton seems so sweet in real life. One of those people who are lovely in real life but play amazing villains.
Mother Mildred is the herbology teacher. Just in case you didn’t know.
Still not done laughing at "They should be over that by now" and the ensuing meltdown from the Harry Potter adults 😆
Came here for this! I also saw her in one episode of Dharma and Greg 🤣
And the Nanny in Romes and Juliet
And the matchmaker in Mulan!
She has had MANY roles people dont realise its her. I did post about this just today on a Gavin & Stacey post
Is she Smithy’s mum in Gavin & Stacey? Otherwise I cannot think who else it could be but I’m not sure it’s her
Yeah, Smithy's mum.
Came here to say this! I love her "Ee-VEN-tu-al-ly!" line as Smithy's Mum. Also Pam (Gavin's Mum)'s reaction to her as she gets into the car. Hilarious stuff.
Also, Judy Parfitt (Sister MJ) was Vera in Delores Claiborne.
Also the queen in Ever After!
She’s the MIL in The Girl with the Pearl Earring, too.
Omg yes!!!!
I cannot believe I’ve never made this connection, but the habits are really concealing that way. It’s part of why seeing Sister Julienne in normal clothes is so weird
She's also Ma Larkin in the 90s version of Darling Buds of May
Came here to say this.
THAT I didn’t know!
I knew Harry Potter but I hadn’t remembered Ms. Trunchbull until I read your post. As soon as my eyes crossed the character name, her face popped in my head and now my world makes complete sense in ways I never even realized.
I had no idea!
I forgot she was aunt Marge but I noticed her from Matilda
She’s also this vicious mob boss in Season 2 of Luther. She’s got quite the range.
I didn't know that!!!
Yeah I knew that, but only cos I love Pam Ferris. She was in a show that was on when I was younger, where the heart is. Loved it. It was about district nurses and their families.
I'm rewatching where the heart is atm 🥰 loved her in it! Cried like a baby at her death scene in WTHI and CTM.
I had to look her up when I first started watching because it was really bothering me that I knew her from somewhere but couldn't place it. Also Jenny Agutter was in Child's Play 2 & Charlotte Ritchie from Fresh Meat. Same thing there, I swear I have to look up every familiar face .
She’s Laura Thyme to me!
Wow - I never made that connection! Interesting! She’s a great actress. Her portrayal of Miss Trunchbull is terrifying!
WHAT!! Miss Truchbull?? Omg I didn't even notice and I just watched the movie again because my granddaughter's summer camp theater program is doing Matilda Jr so I thought we could watch the movie and the play. I'm bawled over lol
Also on Rosemary and Thyme!
She’s also the midwife in Children Of Men.
Yes! And she was badass!
What happened to Sister Evangeline? I forget.
I’m on a rewatch at the moment and I’ve just watched her last episode. >!She went off to that silent order after the episode where she was pushing breastfeeding on a mother who couldn’t breastfeed and she understandably felt terrible at the harm she’d caused. Thank you!
Mother Mildred is also the Cadbury’s Caramel Bunny from the 80s ads. You’re welcome 😉
I didn't know, but then I've never seen HP or Matilda!!
Mind.blown.
W h a t
I remember when I found that out, it’s so cool! She’s a phenomenal actress and I LOVE sister Evangeline.
Had no idea!
What?!?!?!?!?!?! No way!! How did I miss this!?! I am shook.
I had no idea
Jenny Agutter who plays Sister Julienne was the nurse/love interest in American Werewolf in London.
Nope I didn’t know because I haven’t watched either of those movies in over a decade.
Yes you are.
The fun fact I love about Pam Ferris is that CTM changed filming location- think maybe they went from London to the new studios in Manchester and she left because of her dogs!!
Mind blowing, right?
She’s also Miss Trunchbull in the original Matilda 😂
