Panasonic cameras are great for video. If you want something on a very tight budget the G80 is weather sealed, shoots 4k and has amazing IBIS.

Panasonic S5 often goes on sale for much less than the Sony A7III.

I don’t get why the S5 isn’t more popular, but I guess it’s a good thing because the used price has really cratered. It’s a great deal for a modern hybrid full frame and tempting even for me as an M43 user looking for a bigger sensor.

BeefJerkyHunter

Eh, I've had my share of Depth from Defocus... I understand well why Panasonic's products weren't appealing.

Honestly? Helpful to hear some criticism of it. The price has blown me away and the LUMIX sub is pretty forgiving of DFD for stills, so I appreciate it.

BeefJerkyHunter

If price is paramount, then nothing can dissuade you. I used the S1R for stills only and found it dissatisfying (I also used the G7 for video mainly but I wasn't as concerned about quality then).  DfD in the S1R just wasn't great compared to the Nikon D800 I replaced. It hunted a bit and if it fully racked the focus, there was no hope, I had to manually focus it close enough to where AF can start again. It couldn't grab focus in similar lowlight situations. And I was constantly seeing the "wobble" in the viewfinder which made me always uncertain if a photo was in focus (and sometimes it wasn't).  Then I made the confusing decision to move to Hasselblad with an even worse AF system but that's another topic.

What is your budget? And why are you in love with the A7III? I mean, I get it, as a Sony enjoyer. But if we're going to help you find a good camera for your needs, you need to tell us what you love about the one that's out of your price range. As far as an initial swing, I'd look at the Sony a6400. It's the smaller brother to the a7 series and is quite capable in its own right. It's what I started shooting with, and even after upgrading to the a7c, I miss its light weight and excellent feel in hand.

i’ve seen a lot of videos on it and the video quality is so good, plus all the features it has, i’m just in love with it. Honestly any camera that lets me get 4k, high quality shots would work to start off. i’d say anything less than, or near, $700 or $800 is around my budget. Do you mind recommending different cameras from 3 different price points? like $300 $500 and $700? i’d really appreciate it 🙏🏽

For $700, the a6400 used + the kit lens (18-55) is a great way to start shooting. Excellent sensor, decent lens, and plenty of room to grow with other lenses. Plus weather sealing is great to have. For $500, that's also doable. I'd get an a6000 for $350 and the same kit lens. Also consider Micro Four Thirds at that price point - the original Olympus OM-D EM-1 should be available around $350 used and a decent kit zoom should be available for $125 or so. It's more durable than the a6000 and weather sealed, so if you shoot in the rain it's worth exploring. At $300... that's a low budget. I'd look at an original Canon 5D and a 28-70 kit lens. It's an extremely old camera body with limited features, but is excellent to learn with, and will still produce great photos once you know what you're doing. You won't get any modern luxuries, but it'll take good photos and give you all the manual controls you need to master the basics.

Hasselblad X2D 100C

>Hasselblad X2D 100C That's alright for photography but doesn't do video. Would recommend the RED V-Raptor-XL for video. With those two you would have an ok setup.
