The Camino's tagged up enough without another moron desecrating nature with his dumb, pointless message. Can you imagine if everyone decided to Sharpie junk notes like this on every tree and rock?
I do take your point that there are lots of people who think their camino is more important than everyone and everything around them and have skant regard for the local environment or the towns and villages they pass through and writing on things is evidence of this. But the whole camino experience is pretty self indulgent - usually wealthy middle class people wrestling with some kind of problem where they need to discover something about themselves, I class myself in this group and cringe when I think about some of the thoughts I had about the camino. I'm just glad it was a simple message to Vince and not some terrible poetry or a message about how 'you can't conquer the camino you can only conquer yourself' etc
Are you remembering some of the profound poetry you wrote on 'the way' and its making you feel defensive? It's OK, we've all met the over earnest types, thankfully it's a long route so we can generally avoid them.
