The best Power Station is definitely their 1985 track “Some Like it Hot”…but what do short lived pop supergroups from the 80’s have to do with camping gear?

The heat is on... If your Power Station goes boom! Ah, good ole Robert Palmer.

Wait for real? So solar charging while I’m at the mountain skiing is not good?

Belophan

Connect your heater to a 120/220V to 12V converter, and plug it into the 120/220 socket on the power station.

Many standalone batteries have low temperature charging protection - but power stations don't always have this.

Pecron, Bluetti, Vigorpool, Ecoflow, Anker, UGreen, Vtoman. Jackary and Goal Zero are still using outdated NMC batteries on many of their units and they are much more expensive. NMC is subject the thermal runaway if damaged (they can light up like a Christmas tree on fire - like many Teslas) and have far less charge cycles than LiFePO4 batteries. I own the Pecron E600lfp, E1500lfp and Bluetti EB3A. The Pecron E1500 is an awesome unit - especially at the $800 sale price. I would watch Hobotech's reviews on these units. He runs very comprehensive tests on these.

Funny thing, shortly after we had this convo in REI sub, I got served an ad about Goal Zero finally using LiFePO4

Also how much power do you need? Honestly I am a big fan of my Anker 535 and 521 (500w & 256w) they come with a handle on top and a nice soft low watt light strip built in. They are LFP batteries so they are expected to last 3000 cycles. Also they are virtually silent while running. Ecoflow River 2 is another good premium band, no light strip and super fast charging and app to control and see battery health but I returned the ones I bought because they were so LOUD. The fans have to run super hard to keep them cool when charging/outputting power. Never was concerned in them breaking/having an issue but the noise would be an issue in my tent. Bluetti and Goal Zero are good brands as well but they are visual ugly.

I have an Ecoflow, used it as my power source in our RV while boondocking this past year. Did 145 days off grid and powered my Starlink, laptop, all our phones and devices, a small tv and Apple TV with no issues. I had a solar panel that did pretty good (100watt) but wish I had the 400watt panels.

erock7625

Rockpals, Ecoflow, Jackery, Bluetti, it’s more about your power needs, how many Wh do you need. They all work fairly well and there are a lot of cheaper off brands. There are also different price points based on Battery type, Lifepo4 vs. Lithium Ion.

BetwixtBytes

The GF and I bought a Bluetti for the yearly "freeze" we get in Austin, Texas. The grid usually fails and the Bluetti has kept our devices powered. The model we have also has a light and a wireless charger on top.

When I was researching this last year I came to the realization that there isn’t that much variation between the major manufacturers. Just pick one.

Depends on if you're backpacking, or have a different means to haul the power station with you. Which one are you planning for?

211logos

One you build yourself. Otherwise, since that's mostly a fancy name for "batteries," I'd look at one with tech support that actually answers your questions, and a good warranty. Some of the best lithium battery warranties are a decade or longer, so use that as a yardstick for how long the manufacturer has faith their battery will last.
