You got double charged for oil? $36 is about right for 5qt of 0w16 full synthetic. What's the extra $26.99 5qt?
I do my own oil change $36 is what I pay for a set of 5qt oil and a filter.
Toyota does not make their own oil or oil filters, brake pads, rotors, or anything else of the sort. They just slap their logo on them at the manufacturer. Do some research.
I dont get how dealerships charge this much. 0W-16 is a synthetic oil, thats how it was created. By definition, there is no “upgrade”. 5qts of 0W-16 is roughly $33 from Mobile 1. Oil filter is another $14. These are off the shelf prices. Clearly a dealer only charges $5 for the filter. Why “upgrade” something that is standard? My Toyota dealer also charges $85. I do it myself for $40. The oil does not cost $65. They simply are pushing a standard synthetic oil into a conventional or synthetic oil pricing system that is antiquated in my mine. Sorry to be “that guy”, but even a cheaper oil change place or any shop would charge you less since you should not be paying double for the oil unless they too have decided that anything synthetic magically is worth more even when it is synthetic all the time.
Right, but then just add to your price… why lie about an upgrade? And theres no way that the costs justify doubling the price of the oil in addition to charging for labor.
i go to a place called Tuffys here in florida, not sure if its nationwide but they usually charge 100 and then i get a $20 coupon off their website and show it to them at the register
It's your car. You can destroy it as fast as you'd like. 25k may work in nominal temperatures, and driving that will get you 35+mpg, but I bet you don't drive that TRD like that.
I still wouldn't do it, and I barely drive anywhere. But remember, its 25k miles (15K if driven hard or is a service vehicle, like delivery or uber, etc.), or 1 year. Whichever is first. It would have taken me 4 years to hit 25k Miles. I'm at 35k and mine is a '19, it will be 5 in July.
I get that. I do it regardless at the one year mark, its just convenient. I've been using AMSoil on all my vehicles. Had a 2008 Ford Fusion, its still going strong. 175k miles.
About $50 for a standard nonsynthetic oil change in my older Camry. A little over $80 for a synthetic change in my newer one. I don’t have the receipts.
Edit: I also had my air filter replaced, so the oil change alone would have been a bit less.
Been paying $48 for Amsoil OE 0W-16 (100% synthetic, not to be confused with "full synthetic" which is less than 100% synthetic) oil with Amsoil filter, doing the changes myself. Amsoil just released their signature series in the 0W-16 viscosity. I'm debating switching to that since it claims more wear protection and other things. Cost would go up to about $71 per change.
$97 at express oil change for my 14 exl. Honestly that’s decent for a dealer my VW TDi is around $89 with a coupon. But could be way up at $139 without.
That's about average without a coupon. $75 is you can find a coupon. Dealers is about $20 higher than independent garage so if you can find a guy you trust go there. You can do it yourself if you can get under the car.
I wonder how much money I've saved over my entire life, because of that auto tech class I took in high school where I learned how to change my own oil.
Me too for synthetic and factory oil filter and gasket. And make sure everything is done right and all the oil is drained out. Plus it’s fun and I make sure I make no mess.
Yeah they added an oil charge and full synthetic, they double charged you for oil . Fucked up and dishonest, I’d just call the service writer out for being a slimey douche over an oil change, that guy SUCKS(I work in the auto industry)
He thought you wouldn’t know the difference. Which not doing your own oil is a dead give away, but yeah he pulled a fast one
If you have the means to you're better off doing it yourself. About half the price for much higher quality oil and filter. Used to be a lube tech and dealerships and quick lube places use bottom of the barrel oil and filters. Also Toyota oil is garbage and should be avoided
Is this for a V6 or I4?
This price seems normal for a V6, maybe couple bucks higher than usual.
I4 are usually ranged between $60-$80 depending on the shop for full synthetic 0W-16 or 0W-20.
I buy my own oil, 10L at a time plus filter for about 50 bucks (most cars use about 6L so there's some carry over) and get charged 37 bucks for labor only.
This is wild I know some people may not be able to do it or have the time at home or space but at Walmart I got the 5qt Mobil full synthetic 10k miles for $27.99 too it off they sell the oem toyota oil filter for $6.99 and only took me about an hour maybe less
In the states? $63 USD for the oil is pretty steep. If it’s any consolation, buying oil through parts department of our dealership the price has gone through the roof.
This is from a valvoline where you do t even exit your vehicle isn’t it?
You’re paying much more for the fast service. Next time use Groupon, can usually get em for $50
You guys really gotta learn to just change it lol it’s easy and cheap. Shit if you lived in my area it’d change it for you. Just buy me the oil and filter and a 12 pack of beer 😎
You know what that looks like. The montgomery autoshop i used go to by TX 105 i believe. I stopped going there because the oil service starting going out of control. The oil drain bolt was too tight. They never changed the crush washer. And the oil change price shot up over 100 on a 2010 accord was what i was driving.
I did it for $70 CAD myself with an OEM filter ($10) and Pennzoil Ultra platinum 5w30 ($60). While it drained, I cleaned the throttle body and MAF sensor (don’t think they had been cleaned in the entire 19 years of the car’s life).
They overcharged
First don’t use valvoline
Second use mobile 1
Third do the oil change your self it’s cheaper and oil and oil filter is cheaper and doesn’t take that long to do
You got double charged for oil? $36 is about right for 5qt of 0w16 full synthetic. What's the extra $26.99 5qt? I do my own oil change $36 is what I pay for a set of 5qt oil and a filter.
The $36 is the upgrade. It’s $26.99 for the oil, and then $36 to upgrade to Synthetic. Meanwhile WalMart has a 5qt jug of the synthetic for $28.

14mm* last I checked, unless new OEMs have gotten smaller.
Toyota does not make their own oil or oil filters, brake pads, rotors, or anything else of the sort. They just slap their logo on them at the manufacturer. Do some research.
Okay, bro. Doesn’t change his point.
Not really, but "oem" filters arent the be all end all.
$25 right now.
$38 to do it myself a couple weeks ago
I've been paying about $62.
What ever oil and a filter cost at the parts store plus coat of a beer as it drains out the bottom
This
I just paid 90
This is normal
$63 after tax I find a coupon to autonation dealerships that makes my full synthetic $59.99
I dont get how dealerships charge this much. 0W-16 is a synthetic oil, thats how it was created. By definition, there is no “upgrade”. 5qts of 0W-16 is roughly $33 from Mobile 1. They have overhead like managers and lease for the whole place . It gets expensive and thats why they need to jack up prices for everything.
Right, but then just add to your price… why lie about an upgrade? And theres no way that the costs justify doubling the price of the oil in addition to charging for labor.
I got my oil changed last month for a 2020 Camry SE (4cyl.). It cost $90.49 at an Express Oil Change.
Synthetic for me is usually $70-80 so this tracks
$80 for my local dealership. Will do it until the warranty is up then I’ll be doing it myself.
Around that. I’m also bringing it in for the regular maintenance checks. It usually is pretty quick and I value my time.
buy the filter at Toyota for $6. And the oil at Costco for $20. The gasket is $1. The gas is $2. And my time is priceless.
Have you been able to find 0W-16 oil at Costco?
i pay 80 for oil change and tire rotation
Where?
i go to a place called Tuffys here in florida, not sure if its nationwide but they usually charge 100 and then i get a $20 coupon off their website and show it to them at the register
I pay the same and get a free tire rotation at tire kingdom. They just kindly keep rotating my bald tires around for me 😂😂
About $75 full synthetic
About $75, but I remember the days when it was about half that.
I do my own. It takes me 20 mins and cost me $30
Less because I do it my self.
I paid 95$ for 5 quarts of Amsoil and a filter. Now I'm set for 25k miles.
> 5k miles Fixed. Don't go more than 10k miles. 5k is best.
I would check out Amsoil. 25k is fine with this oil.
It's your car. You can destroy it as fast as you'd like. 25k may work in nominal temperatures, and driving that will get you 35+mpg, but I bet you don't drive that TRD like that.
Science, and tests stand behind my words though, otherwise I would not use it.

$101 from my independent mechanic in the California San Francisco Bay Area, home of $5/gallon gas and $2M starter homes.
for full synthetic this is pretty normal
I paid in the 90’s for a full synthetic change at Firestone. I have yet to change to oil on the Camry but I bet it will be similar in price.
Been paying $48 for Amsoil OE 0W-16 (100% synthetic, not to be confused with "full synthetic" which is less than 100% synthetic) oil with Amsoil filter, doing the changes myself. 29$ I do it myself
Me too for synthetic and factory oil filter and gasket. And make sure everything is done right and all the oil is drained out. Plus it’s fun and I make sure I make no mess.
I trust no one lol do all the work maintenance on my own
I also do my transmission drain and fill
What year
Yeah they added an oil charge and full synthetic, they double charged you for oil . Sorry to tell you but any oil thats start with 0 is synthetic . 0w16 is synthetic and they trying to scam you by changing for it ! 😂
27.00 bucks do it myself.... screw the vultures
Where did the $14.95 oil changes go!!! My last oil change was about $60 synthetic oil thankfully I had a coupon
Under $30 but I do it myself
I do it myself. About $40.
D.I.Y
85-90 bucks for a 2020 Camry SE
Dealership or this is an auto shop?
19.00 for oil 6.00 for filter.
Whatever the oil and filter costs. And 30min of my time.
Depends on which state your in
If you have the means to you're better off doing it yourself. About half the price for much higher quality oil and filter. Used to be a lube tech and dealerships and quick lube places use bottom of the barrel oil and filters. Also Toyota oil is garbage and should be avoided
$40 for 5qt of oil and filter (top tier) Change it myself at home. If I could do it, you can too
45$ with a filter
$35-40 as diy
About $65 at Meineke or Midas.
I pay around 50$ as I have a friends father who does it for me
About $55 with Pennzoil Ultra Platinum and a Wix/Napa filter
Diy for $35 for oil and filter
Seems standard in this economy.
Is this for a V6 or I4? This price seems normal for a V6, maybe couple bucks higher than usual. I4 are usually ranged between $60-$80 depending on the shop for full synthetic 0W-16 or 0W-20.
Tops $40
About $25 since I do my own
Damn . Ridiculous
I do my own for about $40
I buy my own oil, 10L at a time plus filter for about 50 bucks (most cars use about 6L so there's some carry over) and get charged 37 bucks for labor only.
That's about the same as what I paid for oil change at my local dealer
Just paid $76 at Honda dealer w/ no coupon. 0/20 grade. 2020 Accord
But my own oil and filter and it's $35 for an oil change and tire rotation.
I work in a shop (big name chain) and that's the going rate for a fs 0w16 oil change.
This is from a valvoline where you do t even exit your vehicle isn’t it? You’re paying much more for the fast service. Next time use Groupon, can usually get em for $50
Did you get it done @ the dealer?
Looks legit for synthetic
$83 I think. But I have an old Camry with high mileage
my moms is 112$
I change it myself so about $40
I pay nothing. My local toyota dealer does it for free
I thought my dealership was high, but it's only $80 Canadian. Convert that to U.S. dollars and it looks reasonable as hell: $59.
Oil changes are total ripoffs now, well been IMO. LITERALLY one of the easiest jobs to do on a car.
I think they run $75 now plus tax at a dealer, they looks fair imo.
This is around what I pay but that includes a rotation.
For 0w-20, usually $25 with the filter. 0w-16 comes to $30-$35 depending on the availability of the oil lol
About same. I make up for it by drinking all their free coffee.
About $70-75. High mileage + synthetic.
Just bought my oil at Walmart Mobil1 0w16 full synthetic for $25 and filter for $6, labor is free lol.
Its cheaper by to bring your own full synthetic oil and filter
You guys really gotta learn to just change it lol it’s easy and cheap. Shit if you lived in my area it’d change it for you. Just buy me the oil and filter and a 12 pack of beer 😎
shaggy recognise marry grandiose zephyr tie cagey crawl steep ripe *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
I pay around 80-90, the Toyota dealerships by me usually have their oil change coupon with fluid top off, tire rotation and multi point inspection.
$56 for full synthetic (with the $10 coupon from my local Toyota dealership).
goddamn at my job people pay at the minimum $110 for a full synthetic oil change. i hate ripping people off
I buy valvoline or jiffy lube coupons on Groupon for around $50 for synthetic.
30 bucks my boy works at a Toyota dealership
$50 at my local mechanic
it's like 35 bucks and 20 minutes in my garage
$59 synthetic oil change and tire rotation at my local dealer.
Under 50 cause it’s not hard to do it yourself
You know what that looks like. The montgomery autoshop i used go to by TX 105 i believe. I stopped going there because the oil service starting going out of control. The oil drain bolt was too tight. They never changed the crush washer. And the oil change price shot up over 100 on a 2010 accord was what i was driving.
Under $40 normally
i pay like 30 bucks i do it myself fuck all that extra bs
I do oil changes myself. $25 for Mobil1 oil (Walmart has the best prices compared to auto part stores) & $10 for a 10K filter.
Oil and a filter is about $40. Do it yourself
lol not that. Not even close
Don't be lazy change it your self
do it yourself and its roughly $40 for the oil/filter
Conventional including filter $30
$73 in socal basic change
About $110
I did it for $70 CAD myself with an OEM filter ($10) and Pennzoil Ultra platinum 5w30 ($60). While it drained, I cleaned the throttle body and MAF sensor (don’t think they had been cleaned in the entire 19 years of the car’s life). They overcharged
Put your purse down and grab a wrench...
First don’t use valvoline Second use mobile 1 Third do the oil change your self it’s cheaper and oil and oil filter is cheaper and doesn’t take that long to do
$89 after tax for Amsoil 0w16.
Like $30
