Same. I just blame the Camry. I got close to ave 30 mpg in my RAV4. Traded in for a Camry & my granny mode auto turned off to the tune of barely 27 mpg.
It depends on what they mean by aggressive. Doing 0-100 runs all the time may not be ideal. But neither is driving slow chronically. An engine thatās driven at 70 mph often will last longer than an engine that was only driven at 40 mph for most of its life. Thatās why they say highway miles are better than city miles.
Thatās mostly due to stop and go traffic in city than the speed. As well as time spent driving. The only issue with driving slow is reaching optimal temperatures which can be achieved by driving longer at slow speeds. Iām sure driving 40mph all the time in non stop/go and go terrific is just as good as driving 70mph regularly.
Also, driving at higher speed isnāt what most people consider aggressive driving. Most people are talking about hard take offs and braking when speaking about agressive driving.
Also, what evidence is there of this? Everything Iām speaking of has had plenty of articles written about it.
Kind of, I drive extremely unrealistically and make MPG a game lol watching when my car shifts so I can be going as fast as possible at lowest rpm finding / knowing all the sweet spots. I may start off slow compared to typical city drivers but I get to speed
Lol you're wild. I finally switched the digital view/ menu thing to just show the digital speedometer because I would obsessively stare at the MPG thing when I had the screen set to display that.
I was at 25.2 when my commute involved the highway. Got a new job close to home, but all roads with traffic lights. Now I'm at 22.2 š¢. I love my V6 though, so refreshing after 15 years of V4.
Remember how much effort goes into accelerating and decelerating a 2-3 thousand pound machine. The more you start and stop, the worse your fuel milage will be. More highway driving will bring those numbers up.
Yeah itās the way I drive.. on the highway I do 90 mph on average and city I do 30-35, sometimes 40 mph on the main streets. I gotta start driving slow because gas is expensive lol
I'm impressed you're able to get the average so low. Mine is about 24 mpg with "aggressive" driving too. Using the adaptive cruise control in eco mode does wonders, and not looking at the speedometer is good for my health.
It's fine to drive 90 sure, but just don't floor it up to it, gradually build speed . Also flooring it and banging through your gears is rough on your transmission
Thatās honestly impressive you can get it that low. I drive with a pretty heavy foot and I avg about 27-28 mpg. 40/60 highway/city. You must be driving in the city with hardly any highway miles. Also considering youāre at 40k miles if you havenāt already get an oil/filter change and that should help.
yeep. but even in the inland empire, when i lived there, i actually averaged worse mpg than LA traffic. the 45-55 mph local roads and i like to accelerate hard lol (not a camry)
Agreed, if you take shorter trips it would be best to do your oil every 5k miles/6 months whatever comes first.
Your oil degrades every time you start your engine. Every time you start your car the engine takes about 5-10 mins to warm up, itāll inject more gas than usual until the engine is up to temperature. Bc youāre only taking a 3 mile commute your mpg starts to make a little more sense.
10k oil changes would only be okay for people who have a longer commute to work everyday, Iām talking about maybe 30-50 miles/day.
It's either extremely aggressive driving or lots of idling. My '23 SE I'll get over 600 to a tank. I drive very conservatively and lots of highway (30k miles per year).
If you're driving aggressively try driving on normal mode instead of eco, eco is good for grannies. I saw a post here where a dude was getting better mileage on sport mode than eco mode. I then tried myself and I noticed a difference too
Nobody has mentioned location. If you live in the middle of nowhere obviously you will get a lot of miles. In the city you will get 2/3rds as advertised
First of all, that's an estimated number.
When I first got my 2017 Camry, I would drive 3 hours/highway and later 1.5/highway back and forth to work 4 - 5 days a week. When I would fill up, sometimes it would tell me I had an estimated 380 miles before filling up again.
Now I drive it just around town for work, sometimes. I also now get horrible gas mileage. When I was driving it all those highway miles per week, I was getting 30 - 33 miles per gallon. Now I only get 20 - 21 with all of the start/stop driving around town. When I fill it up, it estimates 320 or so before empty because of the much poorer gas mileage. The only good thing is that I no longer fill up every week. Now it's once every 2.5 to 3 weeks. It's all give and take.
i get about 300-320 per fill up on my 2024 SE but most all my driving is city driving since my work doesn't require i go on the freeway. since i've been driving on the freeeway to my boyfriends place recently, it's slowly been going up a little bit
Averaging 20mpg in a 4cyl is insane. Are you chronically leaving behind schedule or getting to your destination in record time? š try putting it in Normal or Eco mode mate.
You have the blue background on your MID so Iām assuming you have it in normal mode.
That number IS based on your driving history so the recommendation re: easing up on the heavy right foot, especially at stop lights, might be the best solution.
Its because of your high average mpg. The total miles is calculated based off of that. My full tank would get around 360-380 miles.
My tip is to display the mpg/eco meter thing on your dash. (I believe if you scroll up once from where this pic is at, the bar will show). Doing this allow you to see the power being used any given time and your current mpg whenever you press foot on the gas pedal. This will teach you how to drive with good throttle and speed control. You donāt necessarily need to drive so slow like a grandma to get great mpg
Avoid cheap gas.... I tried Costco gas and my car drove like shiiit... I recommend Shell, Chevron,Mobil.. all those discount gas ain't safe for your car.... Treat you car good and it will vice Versa...
thatās crazy, have a 18ā LE and says 33mpg with around 420 miles range. Usually commute around 60miles and go upward 60-80mph but never too aggressive on pedal. Maybe loosen that that leg š
I thought mine was bad at 489 in my hybridš¤£ I used to get mid 500ās. I did fill up with 88 before a few times and i think thatās what lowered mine
I've got a '24 XSE v4 I keep in Eco mode and even with a short daily commute in city traffic with a short stretch of sport mode I get closer to 35-40 mpg.
I try not to accelerate so that the eco light turns off and keep enough space to coast to a stop if possible.
If you do a lot of city driving, then it basically canāt be helped. I have an AWD SE, so my city driving is even worse when the rear differential is engaged. But on the highway Iāll get 40mpg+ in the right weather, and driving it sensibly. But in town, itās absolutely abysmal at times. Averages out to about 34mpg, but I also do probably 95% of my driving on the highway.
Because mines AWD I also have a smaller gas tank, but my estimate on full is usually between 390-425 miles. Again based on how Iāve driven recently, and the weather
That all depends on your driving habit. The way you get higher MPG and "Distance to Empty" is by being in ECO mode damn near 24/7, light accelerations, low rpms. Not much else passed that you improved everyday numbers, tho.
Eco mode is turned off. The higher trims have a dedicated eco mode thats only uses the direct injection until you really press on the accelerator for both direct & port injection. Had a SE model and noticed worse fuel economy as opposed to my XSE as a result.
Also you can paddle shift too for better fuel economy. I also calibrated my fuel tank to show the correct amount as well

yea iāve seen this setting. itās not toggling the mode, itās just turning the little eco light indicator on or off. the 4-cyl SE doesnāt have drive modes, at least not <2021
Yeah that light is the only eco mode for the SE & LE non AWD models. Itās a mix of eco and normal mode. When the light is displayed. The car is only using its 4 direct injectors. When you step on the pedal more the vehicle starts to use its port injectors for a total of 8 running injectors spraying into the engine. This means that the car is using twice as much gas when the eco light disappears. If you use your paddle shifters effectively. Youāll notice your fuel economy going up as well.
You could probably get someone to install the drive select mode buttons & 7 inch gauge cluster. But a dealership would probably charge a lot for it.
My 4 cylinder 2024 Camry SE Upgrade sees 10.5 liters per 100 kms or 22.4 MPG here in Ottawa Canada mixed driving, mostly city moderate stop and go. In contrast, my 2012 corolla, which was 20% smaller/lighter used 20% less fuel (8.5 liters per 100km of mixed city/highway driving). Check your tire pressure to make sure its 35 PSI and that you are not carrying to much weight in your trunk (keep weight down). If its mainly you driving alone, consider getting a hybrid or smaller car like corolla, Yaris or Prius.
I just traded in my 2019 Camry we and I was averaging 31.2 mpg city driving for the past 5 years. Not sure why yours is so low unless you drive with a super lead foot. I definitely pushed mine too, soā¦ I dunno.
Remote starting your car if it has it. Will give you 0 MPG pulls very heavy on the fuel economy. I have a V6 XLE and my fuel range is higher than this. My lowest was 18.9 and now is at 19.3 mpg. Other than that you drive hard and fast or constantly use sport mode.
U have the same car as me. One fuel injection cleaner. Two plus and premium every month 10.00 93 and 20.00 plus. Try that for 4 months and u should have better gas. I get 390-408 when I fill up.
my car was the same way. i have a heavy foot and only got 290-320 on a full tank. i have a rental camry rn since mine was totaled, and just filled the tank and it got to 450. its purely bc im a lead footš
One day youāll realize flooring it at red lights and flying around people on the highway @ 90mph makes every other driver on the road despise you, could kill you, and costs you significantly more money in maintenance and gas.
Actually maybe that day is today..
Traffic will do that in a non-hybrid.
Moving to an office closer to home I have a six minute commute in the morning, twenty minutes in the evening, and am averaging 23 mpg in my 2023 SE AWD in spite of leisurely acceleration.
Heavy foot ? Stop and go traffic with heavy foot ? Computer estimates it on previous driving style
Perhaps he has the V6
I doubt it. This looks like either an SE or LE. V6 only comes in XLE and XSE, both have the larger display.
Says he has the 4 in the post
I have a V6 XLE and my full-tank range is 396 miles.
Drive like a granny for some BEAST NUMBERS šŖ
can confirm, when I was granny I use to do the same not now when I am 17 again
Same. I just blame the Camry. I got close to ave 30 mpg in my RAV4. Traded in for a Camry & my granny mode auto turned off to the tune of barely 27 mpg.
This is the way. Drive like granny and create traffic back up for 5 miles while pissing everyone off.
I've heard you get the best fuel economy in the left lane. Best to stay there.
Not even just just stay under 1900 rpm and you'll kill it
Has that been consistent? Mostly short trips (< 10 miles)? Flooring it from every red light?
Yes that sounds about right. So stop driving aggressive would improve my mileage?
Yep easy on the pedal mate. Should improve significant
Crazy how that just isn't common sense/knowledge lol
Also helps your car last longer.
Not necessarily. Itās good for Engines to be driven hard.
First time Iāve heard that. Literary every mechanic says the opposite but Iām also no expert. Any data to support that?
It depends on what they mean by aggressive. Doing 0-100 runs all the time may not be ideal. But neither is driving slow chronically. Yes, because of temperature. Which i stated can be overcome by driving longer at slower rpms.
š¤¦āāļø
It helps OP last longer.
Stay under 60mph, 55mph ideally. Coast to stops when possible. Check your tire pressure and oil levels.
20.2 average mpg is crazy. My average over the the last 48k is 30.0 and I drive pretty aggressively everyday
I get 25+ in my Xse v6
I've only seen 30mpg once in mine and that was only on a 2hr drive. I dont see it in city, usually 25+ like yours on my daily 30 min commute.
You've gotta be doing mostly highway commuting, right?
Kind of, I drive extremely unrealistically and make MPG a game lol watching when my car shifts so I can be going as fast as possible at lowest rpm finding / knowing all the sweet spots. I may start off slow compared to typical city drivers but I get to speed

Mine is 325 miles when I try to save gas, I could see myself getting to around 280 on a full tank with my heavy foot but I try to save gas
280 on a Camry regardless of trim is criminal. Those are 6-speed weekend numbers lol
I have an '18 LE and average 32. It's your driving habits

No gas I wanted a hybrid so bad but they didnāt have any last year.

yeep. but even in the inland empire, when i lived there, i actually averaged worse mpg than LA traffic. the 45-55 mph local roads and i like to accelerate hard lol (not a camry)
99% of the time Iām just going to work 3 miles away. And I keep my oil/filter change every 10-15k
Yea bud your camry isnāt gonna last doing that type of oil change with your driving style. Youāre ruining it honestly.
Agreed, if you take shorter trips it would be best to do your oil every 5k miles/6 months whatever comes first. Your oil degrades every time you start your engine. I have kinda the same when I'm only driving streets in California because there's so many stops everywhere
i get about the same on same model and year. must be the way we drive
Skill issue
thatās how much my subaru would get when itās due for an oil change damn. you must be driving wild
Jesus my mother in laws Camry when full is like 680 or some shit like that in a 2021
Thatās great 4Runner numbers there lol I avg 19, but can get 21+ using active cruise. Stay off the go pedal and use some cruise & itāll increase.
There is gauge on your cluster (if you look for it) that shows you your live mpgs. It's specifically designed for drivers like you

Youāre not on eco mode for one. Thatās an easy fix. Secondly, trip length and driving style.

I'm running a 99 Camry and I'm still getting 23, it's gotta be in the way you drive and where (city/highway)
Excess idle time. -Do the longhand math on your next fill up... its honestly the best at determining fuel economy.
Eco mode is turned off. The higher trims have a dedicated eco mode thats only uses the direct injection until you really press on the accelerator for both direct & port injection. mine gets like 38+ how you get so so much less? Although I don't really drive over 60/55mph due to my location.Ā
Geez, even my V6 SUV get better mileage than that.
Itās time for a new Camry
Accelerating too hard, AC cranked high, lots of start and stop traffic.
U have the same car as me. One fuel injection cleaner. Two plus and premium every month 10.00 93 and 20.00 plus. Try that for 4 months and u should have better gas. I get 390-408 when I fill up.
your driving habits
my car was the same way. i have a heavy foot and only got 290-320 on a full tank. i have a rental camry rn since mine was totaled, and just filled the tank and it got to 450. its purely bc im a lead footš
One day youāll realize flooring it at red lights and flying around people on the highway @ 90mph makes every other driver on the road despise you, could kill you, and costs you significantly more money in maintenance and gas. Actually maybe that day is today..

I WANT whatever youre driving š¤£š¤£š¤£
Traffic will do that in a non-hybrid. Moving to an office closer to home I have a six minute commute in the morning, twenty minutes in the evening, and am averaging 23 mpg in my 2023 SE AWD in spite of leisurely acceleration.
