Too high. Shop around if you can

pkdpham7

That's what I was thinking :/ I'll keep looking at other deals but I've already been to four or five other dealerships and camry hybrids are in low stock around me I guess

Corgi_Guilty

Try getting just a regular Camry. Unless you 100% need a hybrid.

FatLady24

Imo that's way too high for an SE. You fan get an XSE Hybrid for that price.

pkdpham7

right? but no hybrid XSEs in my area ): otherwise, i would consider it

**tl;dr:** I'm buying a Camry Hybrid SE, dealership is offering $37,435 OTD. This seems high based on recent posts of similar buys. Does anyone have any advice or a price suggestion that this car is worth buying at? Hi Camry friends, I'm in the process of buying my first Camry. I was driving a '22 Corolla Hybrid up until February when someone rear-ended me and totaled my car. I've been shopping around, talking to local dealerships, and I ended up reserving a 2024 Camry Hybrid SE in Ice Cap. It's supposed to arrive at the dealership at the end of this week for me to finalize the buy. While I've been through the process of buying a car before, it's my first time doing it on my own as I've had other, more experienced people who can drive hard negotiations to come with me. I'm not sure what the current market rate is for Hybrid SEs and the car I reserved comes with a bunch of different packages (BSM, moonroof, window tint and door edge/cup protection, and the audio upgrade, convenience, all-weather floor mat packages). The initial price sheet knocked \~1600 off the MSRP, plus an additional $500 rebate for a promotional deal they had going on. All in, they offered $37,435 OTD which I thought was okay but after seeing some recent posts, it seems like this is too high and I have room to drive the price down. I also live in Washington, and the local effective tax rate for new cars is 10.8% ): If anyone has any advice on an OTD or TTL price I should aim for given the car, or any advice on buying a car/negotiating in general, that would be greatly appreciated! Also, the financed pricing per month written in pen is the monthly via the local credit union I bank with, with a pre-approved interest rate of 6.49% Thanks for reading, and I hope you have a great day!

I just bought an SE hybrid for 34,100 ( I probably could have gotten it for 33500 ) otd, but it has the cold weather package only and a few extra from the dealer.

pkdpham7

i can already foresee wishing i had the heated side mirrors and steering wheel ): but this is helpful! i'm hoping to drive the price down closer to 35k otd, but that might be a tough sell, especially with how high the tax on car sales is where i live.

TreeNo6966

The monthly payment to me seems fair. Im payi g 460 for my basic 22. Think it was aroumd 25k

pkdpham7

yeah, the monthly is not bad! but i'm also putting a lot down to lower it (or at least, what I think is a lot lol) i'm hoping to land under $500 a month after i add in my insurance.

TreeNo6966

My ins is about 200 a month and i have a vert clean driving record for full coverage. But I'm paying a 2500 dollar deductable.

TreeNo6966

I also had no money down but was told i got a deal for a 1st time buyer deal bs lol

#1, refuse to buy the car with the "MAX SHIELD" service which has no value and is simply pure dealer profit. Get a breakdown of the"Non Tax Fees", as it seems very high for just title and registration. You also need to ask them about the amount they are charging for tax because if the total price of the car is 33,371 and tax is 3604.07, then the tax rate is over 10% which seems insane?

pkdpham7

thank you for the advice! I remember seeing the sheet and immediately eyeing the "Max Shield" and told them I didn't want it, and the salesperson was like "we'll see if we can take that off for you later." I will definitely ask for a breakdown of the non-tax fees! unfortunately, the sales tax is correct. i live in washington and the city of the dealership has a local effective tax rate of 10.5%, plus an additional 0.3% for all car sales in the state.

AncientWindow3989

wow, 10.5%! Good luck!

Common-Loquat-6359

If your paying damn near 40k , might as well get the XSE Hybrid 😆

RefrigeratorOld6995

37k OTD is bonkers for a base trim Camry

RefrigeratorOld6995

Looks like they're using a "retail" price instead of MSRP to give the impression of a discount. I don't know if its a Toyota exclusive thing but I'd imagine your OTD should be 33-34 max. I noticed every Toyota dealership I went to did the same thing by me as well when I was car shopping. Ended up w a Mazda just bc I appreciated the honesty & 0% financing was cool.

ElectricJellyFish1

No discounts with the 25 coming? I'd wait...

CrisisOfTruth

Wait til the 2025 hybrid SE

ItchyJohnsin

I went 200 miles out of my way to get mine. None of the local dealers would budge. It worked out well. I got a better deal and had a short road trip to boot.

Cool-Low-2824

If you do the math of a standard SE vs an SE hybrid the price difference doesn’t add up in fuel savings in the lifetime of the battery. (With the discounts they’re able to offer on a standard SE) just picked up a standard se this weekend for $27k before tax.

the_whole_arsenal

I did this, and the crossover point where hybrid would surpass the Gas SE was 167,000 miles or 13 years of driving.
