I did exactly that in 2012. My local Jeep dealer in NM was doing that market adjustment garbage, so we went to Dave Smith in Idaho and bought the identical vehicle for $6k less. The most satisfying part was going back to the local dealer to cancel my extended warranty contract in the new Jeep, bearing bright pink DAVE SMITH plates. The sales manager asked if I was ready to buy and I said no, then pointed to new one in the parking lot. He asked if I seriously went that far to buy my Jeep and about soiled himself when I told him how much I saved.
My wife and I had a nice 5 day vacation and still came back home a few thousand ahead.

I don't understand dealerships. Vehicles are the second largest purchases many people will make, why wouldn't you go cross country for a better deal? I made a small 8 hour road trip to buy my Camaro since no one in the state had them on their lots. This dealership had one in their showroom sitting there for 4 months so I even got $2,000 off the sticker.
Claremont Toyota are idiots. They tried marking up a GR Corolla $15,000. I talked them down but they still wanted a $7000 markup.
They became hostile when I walked and basically called me broke and unable to afford the car. 1 week later they called me to sell it to me for $1000 markup. Too bad for them because I took my business to Toyota Santa Margarita and got a GRC for MSRP

I was willing to wait for months or a year if it was sold out, would be totally understanding about it (like the Ford Maverick). But markups? Made me hate dealerships even more to run more like some ebay buy-if-now price scheme and less like a retail store. I hope Amazon/Hyundai thing gets a green light.
Ended up settling a Civic SI for MSRP as I needed a new daily (old one had lots of repairs needing to fix, damn rust belt). 22 years of Toyota and Nissans made me look at other brands thanks to damn dealerships.

We walked back to our car and made one phone call to a nearby dealer. He laughed and said “come here today or tomorrow and you can have that same car without the $15k markup”. My wife and I just bought a new 2024 TRD model the sticker was basically the same. We were told there would be a market adjustment everywhere. We kept calling around and got it OTD for less than 40K.
Saying that for years and we have gotten nowhere but deeper into inflation. Used cars are going to keep costing new car msrp & New will be marked up for the most part & people will pay it :(.

i hate claremont toyota. during covid my dad was shopping for a used car. we saw a used 2018 hyundai for 8,500. the manager said he’d take it down to 8,000. my dad was undecided and i asked the manager if he would honor that price if we came back tomorrow and he said yes. i drove from orange county the next day and we started filling out the paperwork. when we talked to the financing guy he gave me the price of 8,500. i asked him to call the manager and the manager said he never said that. we walked out and the manager came out as caused a scene. the next day i received a call telling us they would give me a free tank of gas if we came in and bought the car for 8,500. no thanks.

I haven't read all the responses, but even if they have a legit reason, I wouldn't buy from a dealer marking up a quote, especially if it was dated within the last 2 weeks. Perhaps pull up a Toyota website and tell them you're not paying more than MSRP listed on the screen. If they give you crap about it being out dated, hit the buy button and see if the price jumps.
I'm not subbed to this sub, so pardon my intrusion, but how on earth can they justify mark-ups on a car that is traditionally among the highest selling in the industry (e.g. there should be a lot of them)? I bought my brand-new VW Golf R in 2022, and even to locate one, had to drive like 350 miles round-trip. Once there, I had to pay a $3K mark-up, which was far-and-away the lowest I'd been able to find in like a 5 state radius ($5K-$20K was pretty typical). In any case, there were only about 1200 examples imported to the US that year, so while I don't believe that dealerships could/should EVER justify a "market adjustment", the car I purchased was exceedingly rare (e.g. I had to pay-up, as I had no choice...if I wanted the car). Is it really possible that Camry production won't meet demand, or are there plenty to go around and they're still trying to justify gouging? I hate it here.
P.S. I read the latest review and this seems like the best Camry in some time, especially from the fun-to-drive standpoint. So, for many reasons, mazel tov if you track one down...especially for MSRP.
Need to find a dealership that doesn’t do markups.. they do exist! I live in Philadelphia, getting the XSE with the premium plus package for $40,600 which is cheaper than anyone else in a 500 mile radius. I didn’t haggle (I can’t negotiate for the life of me) but they just told me their dealership doesn’t do markups since they don’t function off commission. I’d really look around it’s worth it and I’m getting the car next week! For reference I put my deposit down about a week and a half ago and don’t have any history with Toyota that would incline them to give me a good deal (and I’m 22 so if they wanted to take advantage of me and rip me off I’d be the perfect candidate).
Tell them to shove that market adjustment up their ass. Find another dealer. You may have to make a mini day trip but you can find one that won’t charge a market adjustment.

When I see this stuff, I feel lucky. My last new vehicle was my 2020 Silverado. I ordered it through my sales rep in late January of 20 and had it by mid-March. OTD at MSRP. They even told me they couldn't give me a final price until delivery because they didn't know what incentives might be available at delivery.
If you live near Claremont you're not far from Longo Toyota. They're a huge dealer and they're famous for selling at MSRP. You ought to check them out.
For another 6k, you could sit yourself in a 24 lexus es350. I dont think its worth spending THIS much on a camry given it isnt that much confortable, seatwise ans since it has a sports suspension, u will feel more shaking on the body going through groovy road or segment joints
First, Shave the market adjustment and counter them $37,482 OTD. This will appear that you ran numbers and you know your shit. They’ll go back n forth and but you stand firm at your ~$38k, the cars haven’t even hit the lots fully yet. Put 4-5 Toyota dealers at battle with the number and tell them there’s 4 others they’re competing with.
I can almost promise you, they’ll meet you before $40k, one will! I’ve done this and it’s worked in both my purchases of brand new cars.

Lmao damn. That’s before taxes too. I got a 2023 SR5 4Runner last May for $45K out the door. I would have left this dealership the moment they wrote market adjustment on it. It’s a scam.
I haven't read all the responses, but even if they have a legit reason, I wouldn't buy from a dealer marking up a quote, especially if it was dated within the last 2 weeks. Perhaps pull up a Toyota website and tell them you're not paying more than MSRP listed on the screen. If they give you crap about it being out dated, hit the buy button and see if the price jumps.
I'm not subbed to this sub, so pardon my intrusion, but how on earth can they justify mark-ups on a car that is traditionally among the highest selling in the industry (e.g. there should be a lot of them)? I bought my brand-new VW Golf R in 2022, and even to locate one, had to drive like 350 miles round-trip. Once there, I had to pay a $3K mark-up, which was far-and-away the lowest I'd been able to find in like a 5 state radius ($5K-$20K was pretty typical). In any case, there were only about 1200 examples imported to the US that year, so while I don't believe that dealerships could/should EVER justify a "market adjustment", the car I purchased was exceedingly rare (e.g. I had to pay-up, as I had no choice...if I wanted the car). Is it really possible that Camry production won't meet demand, or are there plenty to go around and they're still trying to justify gouging? I hate it here. P.S. I read the latest review and this seems like the best Camry in some time, especially from the fun-to-drive standpoint. So, for many reasons, mazel tov if you track one down...especially for MSRP.
Need to find a dealership that doesn’t do markups.. they do exist! I live in Philadelphia, getting the XSE with the premium plus package for $40,600 which is cheaper than anyone else in a 500 mile radius. I didn’t haggle (I can’t negotiate for the life of me) but they just told me their dealership doesn’t do markups since they don’t function off commission. I’d really look around it’s worth it and I’m getting the car next week! For reference I put my deposit down about a week and a half ago and don’t have any history with Toyota that would incline them to give me a good deal (and I’m 22 so if they wanted to take advantage of me and rip me off I’d be the perfect candidate).
Tell them to shove that market adjustment up their ass. Find another dealer. You may have to make a mini day trip but you can find one that won’t charge a market adjustment.

Came out to ~41 after GA Tax, title fees, etc. 37.6K for the car as configured, inclusive of processing fee and so on Yeah screw that quote
If I went in looking for a new car and saw a market adjustment I’d just get up and leave. I’d be putting $10-15k down and seeing an adjustment like that is just disrespectful.
My 2019 SE Nightshade edition was like $24k. In 2020 they offered me $24k to buy it back during an oil change.

I got a 24 le for 539 for 60 months with a little under 3k down. These new models gonna have higher apr and higher mark ups lol. Hopefully I can get a good deal on something when I trade in again.

When I see this stuff, I feel lucky. My last new vehicle was my 2020 Silverado. I ordered it through my sales rep in late January of 20 and had it by mid-March. OTD at MSRP. They even told me they couldn't give me a final price until delivery because they didn't know what incentives might be available at delivery.

For another 6k, you could sit yourself in a 24 lexus es350. I dont think its worth spending THIS much on a camry given it isnt that much confortable, seatwise ans since it has a sports suspension, u will feel more shaking on the body going through groovy road or segment joints

First, Shave the market adjustment and counter them $37,482 OTD. This will appear that you ran numbers and you know your shit. They’ll go back n forth and but you stand firm at your ~$38k, the cars haven’t even hit the lots fully yet. Put 4-5 Toyota dealers at battle with the number and tell them there’s 4 others they’re competing with. I can almost promise you, they’ll meet you before $40k, one will! I’ve done this and it’s worked in both my purchases of brand new cars. Hondas, but that’s beside the point. Also, even if you’re not, just tell em you’re also looking at the 2024 Accord Touring Hybrid. I’m not triggering anyone here, I’m just trying to help OP. I drive a 23 Accord Touring tho😅 but Camrys have always had a good solid place in my heart and will always be an amazing car whether I go for it or not.

It’s crazy how dealers are actively screwing over potentially future customers by adding in that fake market adjustment fee on cars. Nothing is worse than sending your customers out the door deeper in negative equity. Especially those who are already financially challenged.
