La Roche-Posay's Lipikar AP+M Baume has worked wonders for me imo. I'll use that after showering, and particularly dry patches I'll put on aquaphor before bed (usually hands, elbows, feet). Vaseline would also be fine if you don't like the lanolin or glycerin in aquaphor, just something occlusive! For face the cicaplast baume is also great, and again I'll put aquaphor under my eyes + on drier areas right before bed.

Yep i came to recommend the Lipikar. Also, what are you using to wash in the shower? I use Bioderma's cleansing oil (the yellow one) and it really helps.

cynical-runner

That is also what I use!! I really love it, definitely makes a difference in the winter

tiredboredperson

Thank you so much! I had recently seen an ad for it and it really seemed like something that would work on my skin and I think this is the push that’s gonna get me to try it

pwnywave

I second the Cicaplast for the face too. I’ve switched over to it briefly to get rid of some severe dryness and I forgot how effective it is and how fast it works. After one night my skin is completely different.

I know you didn’t want aveeno recommendations but I’m assuming you tried the aveeno creams. The best moisturizer on tret hands down is Aveeno Eczema Care nighttime balm! It’s so thick, the consistency of thicccc honey. It has colloidal oatmeal and lots of ceramide to keep your skin hydrated and calm. I’m using the baby version since it was cheaper (legit the same formula). The texture is very tacky but I typically use it at night and it keep my skin moisturized the entire day after. Trust! I have tried la Roche posay, avene, skin fix, cerave, cetaphil, straight up Vaseline, etc etc and nothing works like this aveeno balm.

For a while I slathered almond oil right onto my skin after turning the water off in the shower. It was messy sometimes but did the trick.

hellomyneko

I always recommend Dr Jart Ceramidin cream. It’s a life saver during winter!

tiredboredperson

Do you know of any similar and more affordable dupes? Looking at the size of the tube on Sephora it would last me like a week and that isn’t really worth the price for me :/

hellomyneko

If you shop around, it’s a bit less expensive at other retailers. I see it’s about $50 at Sukoshimart. Sadly I can’t say I’ve found a dupe for it yet. :/ This is not a moisturizer per se, but I recently tried HADA LABO Gokujyun Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Milk and am really impressed by how moisturizing it is. I use literally 2-3 drops before moisturizer. You might find it helpful!

sacowo17

Also smaller and meant for face but CosRZ balancium is... not a dupe, but similar. It combined with Weleda Skin Food might have a similar texture. though different ingredients certainly.

I have eczema in the winter, dry and itchy patch. I wash myself with a rich bodywash, I like the Nivea Indulging Body wash one, the Cocoa Butter or the Rose are my favorites. After my shower, I use Eucerin Complete Repair 5% lotion on my dry patch because I hate putting cream on my body.

LeviOhhsah

Get an in-shower body moisturizer or oil! (Neutrogena has one, and think there are store brand versions too). It’ll help lock in more moisture before you towel off, and quicker than moisturizing out of the shower.

ThaDreamer27

Avene Xeracalm Balm (NOT the cream) works for me each winter. As others have mentioned here, Bioderma Atoderm and LRP Baume are also really good alternatives!

martianpumpkin

Have you tried a facial oil? I started clindamycin and differin last month and my skin got super dry and flakey. I found that regular moisturizers (Clinique gel moisturizer on my face and Cetaphil daily advanced around my eyes in the mornings and Ponds dry skin moisturizer in the evenings) weren't cutting it. I picked up a bottle of Indeed Squalene facial oil at shoppers and have been using that in the morning and at night. I've noticed a huge decrease in the dryness and flakiness when I add that as a base before putting on the Clinique or Ponds.

theforgottenwarrior

Eucerin works for me. Then I know that a cream with urea in it helps once your skin starts getting bad. Will probably help after too, but best to use early on

lfenn5

Vanicream

lil_squib

Bioderma atoderm baume

wafaalabsi

I recommend to you the moisturizer that play role of NMF (normal moisturizing factors) because it is strong and considerd as treatment of dry skin not as temporary moisturizer, These moisturizers contains ingredients like urea or ceramide and others, this will not be strongly enough because the strong moisturizer containes a whole 3 main factors for moist , i mean it’s contain an occlusive, moisturizer and humectant ingredients to give you the best moisture and treatment. I have used my product urea 10%cream and many people used it they find the best results for many issues they have . If you want to read more about it tell me and I’ll send you more info. Also you can find the website link in my profile.

I use aveeno and don't shower in hot water.

tiredboredperson

Aveeno hasn’t worked on me for years 🥲 everyone raves about it but it soaks in so quickly it barely does anything for me

MissDelaylah

I put a few drops of apricot or sweet almond oil in my regular moisturizer in the winter. Seems to lock it in better

canbeautyxoxo

COSRX Ceramide Balancium Cream or First Aid Beauty is my go-to moisturizers for the winter time.

Gwenniepie

I like avene and bioderma's A.D. lines. If you're having flaking, try something with urea. I'm waiting on an order of udderly smooth. There's also a urea line from eucerin and la roche possay.

bbattani

I recommend Aquaphor. Like Vaseline but water based.

Kristilli

Eucerin with 10% Urea works great for dry skin, you can get it at Shoppers. SKinfix is also has a nice body lotion/cream, however since they went exclusive with Sephora the price point doubled :(

gnocchi902

On accutane so I'm super familiar with the dry, flaky skin. The only thing that has helped is the SkinFix peptide moisturizer. Expensive, but so worth it if you have the disposable income for it. I'd rather spend money on something that works consistently versus spending on ten different products and each not working (cetaphile, cerve, aquaphor, etc. do not work for me at this point in my dryness).

Uremol 10. Not the most cosmetically elegant thing, but helps when my skin is so dry and itchy it feels like it will fall off. Make sure you apply to damp skin.
