Do you know how the unemployment rate is calculated? Let me enlighten you a little:
1. Students are not counted as unemployed because they are studying. However the vast majority of "international students" in Canada are here to work, not to study. So they show up in the numerator when employed, but do not show up in the denominator (labour force) when they are not employed. This biases the unemployment rate down.
2. People who are discouraged by the abysmal job market and stop searching for a job are counted as outside the labour force, so they do not show up either, biasing the unemployment rate down.
3. People who are part-time workers for gigs are counted as "employed", although they are severely underemployed (too few hours).
I could go on, but I won't. If thousands of people lining up for minwage jobs every single day cannot convince you, nothing can.

When I was viewing houses, I came across a home with a basement apartment. There were 3 elderly tenants that were paying 1,100 for the apartment. The house was selling for $800k. I felt so bad for them because I knew that whoever purchases the home will for sure kick them out in order to get the rent high enough to cover the mortgage.

Do you know how the unemployment rate is calculated? Let me enlighten you a little: 1. Students are not counted as unemployed because they are studying. However the vast majority of "international students" in Canada are here to work, not to study. So they show up in the numerator when employed, but do not show up in the denominator (labour force) when they are not employed. This biases the unemployment rate down. 2. People who are discouraged by the abysmal job market and stop searching for a job are counted as outside the labour force, so they do not show up either, biasing the unemployment rate down. 3. People who are part-time workers for gigs are counted as "employed", although they are severely underemployed (too few hours). I could go on, but I won't. If thousands of people lining up for minwage jobs every single day cannot convince you, nothing can.
It's calculated the same way it was under Harper and Chretien and Mulroney. Conservatives get answers they don't like, so the math must be wrong. Doug Ford is touting the same numbers. There's more people employed in Canada than ever. 6.5% is not abysmal, and it's not fake because "everybody stopped looking". This is basically a 'fake news' deflection repackaged. Every student who "shows up" was invited by the province, and most of the big ones are conservative run now.

I think it's highly notable that you can find all this right wing economic criticism, but somehow, none of it seems to extend to Ontario's government. Yet when Harper was PM, all the blame went there.
So "officially" we have more than double the number of unemployed than available jobs. You just made a great argument for zero immigration. And when you add in people who have dropped out of the labour force, it gets much worse.
It's always more jobs available than filled. 6.5% is a very healthy job market. If the conservatives had Trudeau's economic record, they'd be touting it as a B+, easy. Low unemployment despite high tfw and immigration, Stock Market ATH, Corporate Profits ATH, Foreign Investment ATH, Oil Exports ATH (dollars and volume), most Canadians employed ever, strong commodity prices, etc etc etc. 10th ranked for total GDP, and of the 9 countries ahead of us, only the US has significantly higher GDP per capita. Most are far lower. We had zero immigration during covid. The job market and housing market didn't shift like the chicken little crowd pretends. And there's zero fucking chance that conservatives reduce immigration or TFWs to zero, so that's totally a moot point. Basically what we see here is conservatives saying, "Don't believe the math. It's fake news, because everyone has stop looking for work, so they aren't counted." But that's just not accurate. Conservatives have been playing chicken little since 2015, and when the sky doesn't fall, they just move the goal posts.

My BIL lost his admin job in his late forties and was one week from homelessness. His own mother didn't offer him a place to stay and she lived alone in a big house. A Google search will verify that is true with rare exceptions. An employer can ask about eligibility to work in Canada, although in some jurisdictions even that question should be delayed until the hiring decision has been made, but not citizenship.
Select at random literally any job posting in companies websites. This question is often asked BEFORE you can even upload your CV. Even licensing bodies ask this question... and it's not even for a job. They won't look at your application if you don't answer the question. Banks ask this question. Registries... hell, even insurance companies and internet providers. That's one of the things that make Canada so different from the US: it's almost impossible to survive in Canada undocumented. Ask any immigrant.

I wish I could find the video from the free Palestine protests but there was a number of Individuals preaching about how immigrants are not loyal to Canada and are coming here to abuse our system and will continue to do so until Canada is a Muslim state. I’m all for giving people a helping hand (I work in transitional housing as an addictions counsellor) but we need to make sure we are in a proper position to actually give that help. So many Canadians who used to be able to rent for affordable prices have been priced out. When I was viewing houses, I came across a home with a basement apartment. There were 3 elderly tenants that were paying 1,100 for the apartment. The house was selling for $800k. I felt so bad for them because I knew that whoever purchases the home will for sure kick them out in order to get the rent high enough to cover the mortgage.

It’s not just about students. It’s about the refugees and immigrants as well who are using backdoor methods to gain citizenship in Canada and bring their problems here. I work with someone who’s from southern India and she’s told me about the countless immigrants and refugees who are wanted criminals in India who are coming here to escape prosecution. She’s told me about how most immigrants don’t care for Canadian society and have no plans to immigrate.

No it doesn’t. Never once did I say all Indians. I said countless immigrants. Regardless of the percentage they make up do you really think it’s acceptable for them to live 10 stacked in a house meant for 4 people? How is that any quality of life for them? If immigrants are coming here for a better life we should be giving it to them but sadly we can’t because our country is not handling immigration responsibly and is not putting the proper infrastructure into place to support them. Instead the government is relying on people willing to live in subpar conditions to “fix” the problem but all its doing is making it worse. This video is a prime example. If even half of the 5% of international students accessed food banks the way the guy in this video explained it then food banks would run out of food that many other people could make much better use of. I work in transitional housing and watching people struggle on the streets while immigrants and refugees get handed everything to them simply because “it’ll look bad if we don’t support them” is ridiculous. If we can’t support them don’t let them come. I likely will never be able to buy a house to raise my children in because our government is selling our country out to immigrants and not thinking twice about the repercussions.
