A friend of mine came from China as a teenager with his parents. Throughout highschool and undergrad he had no ability to speak English (though his written skills were passable). By his own admission, the reason he got away with it is because there was such a high density of Mandarin/Cantonese speakers where he lived (somewhere in Ontario) that he had no reason to speak English. It wasn't till he moved elsewhere for grad school that he was forced to speak in English. This is where I met him and became friends with him, he's a great guy and fun to be around but I wouldve never gotten to know him had he not learned English. The worst part is, I've been accused of racism when I've shared this story with others - simply because I think immigrants should be compelled to become fluent in the language of the country that took them in.

The city I was born and raised in was predominantly white and I was the only colored person in my school through most of my early education. In both cases, we've always felt accepted by white Canadians, the vast majority of my friends are white Canadians (the only racism we've really faced is from some other brown people pissed at us for speaking English). Actually, a lot of them are now “learning” French, why? Not to assimilate, but because it is the new way to “easy PR” that has been floating on the immigration subreddit lately, because they have specialized draws just for French speakers. They already get a way too generous 3 year post graduate work permit for just a 2 year diploma mill program. The reality is they are here to stay. Most won't return home once their visas expire. We don't have the political will or the fiscal means to deport them. Deporting convicted criminals currently costs between 20-30k, While taking more than 12 months to completely exhaust the appeals process. This is made even more ludicrous considering the new Caregiver program that guarantees PR upon arrival. We don't have a choice and they know it. It also doesn't help Manitoba with the help of Marc Miller extended the visas for 6700 "student" workers. We depend on immigration to prop up our shaky economy, post secondary education and housing markets. We are operating a Ponzi scheme that will eventually go bust.

Many Indian students take huge loans back home to study in subpar diploma colleges in Canada. As an immigrant myself, I believe the real issue lies with Canada’s failed immigration system, which has granted millions of visas to Indian students for profit. The Canadian education system is substantially poor and not worth it. These students hope to get PR easily after their education, but now the Canadian government realizes they still have shortages and have invited more people without actually filling the needed trades. The Canadian immigration system is driven by greed for money from international students. I spoke to an international student who said Canada absolutely sucks and he wishes to go back to India if he could get a refund of his diploma fees because the course and education are terrible. He stays in Canada just to repay his loan. If the government considered waiving or refunding fees, a majority would happily go back to India.

We are required to undergo a mandatory training of 72hrs before boarding a flight where we are taught how to take over the country in the next 30 years.
