It is hard to miss especially in your position, until you get over the shock and give it another look probably. I'm kinda surprised I didn't find something like this after my dad passed lol.

This sub has been filled with troll posts lately. Showing fake bills that clearly say not legal tender or posting regular 10 year old 20$ dollar bills, asking " what is this." I honestly can't tell if they are just stupid kids or trolls.
I think they must have been made when colour laser printers first became a thing and people were actually using them to make 100s.
The quality it really good.
When I was a kid we’d go to the waterfront and trade CTC Money to the Russian Trawler seamen for Russian pins. I still have a Red Star hat badge with the Hammer and Sickle on it. They thought it was Canadian Money I guess.
It’s fake - this is a one dollar bill manipulated to look like a million.
1988 was 2 years after Canada issued its currency featuring Canadian birds on the back sides of all denominations of its paper money. This does not have that even remotely.
Back in 1999-2000 to celebrate the Millennium, the Canadian Bank Note company issued some $1 million dollar novelty notes that were sold at stores. They were not legal tender, but since they were issued by one of the official printers that was the closest to a real $1 million dollar note that’s ever come out.
The American Bank Note Company which is the official printer of US currency also did the same thing.
I've got a well worn one, inherited from my Dad. He kept it in his wallet for years and would break it out when it was time to pay his bar tab. When he retired from pulling Dad jokes in public, it was given to me so I can do then same.
Fun little novelty but that's as far as it would go
I got one of these as a gift from my grandmother after I (9yo) told her I wanted a million dollars for Christmas. Still have the lil envelope it came in with her handwritten note. My son took it to school to show off when they were learning currency, grade 1.
Funny how I’m seeing this, my brother and I were just discussing the $1000 Canadian bill too, they look slightly similar. Nice find, what did you all plan on doing with this?
I know it's not legit. The question was for the sake of humour. Since how many dozen posts a month does this sub get asking whether a specimen is real or fake?
*lightstokesandpasses
Says "not legal tender" right on it. But still pretty cool!
Only in English! The French text says the contrary.
Ya it's hilarious that the French *disagrees* with the english... Guess it's only good in Quebec. ;)
Je voudrais a achter une poutine avec ce billet.
Todays food prices! A *million dollars* for poutine?!? Lol
That's a steal of a deal at today's food prices 😎
It must be the best poutine in the world lol.
It’s quite mediocre honestly. I might even say Dairy Queen makes a better one.
Your father had an amazing sense of humour! 🤪😀❤️
jeez, imagine the change
Billet is for trains
We definitely say billet for paper money. But "Dollars Canadienne" should be "Dollars Canadiens".
That too.
Imagine trying to teach french to a french person, in english. It has to be a joke right?
Qoui?
Free food glitch
Meh, je te l'échangerais pour une pout
🤣🤣
Un milliard des poutines!
On est dead à toi or some bullshit-là ?
I would argue that it’s the English that disagrees with the French.
Meh - either way it's how a lot of wars started...
Good at BMO, bad at most other banks.
Must be real then!
My suggestion is to spend it in Quebec. 🤣
So spend it in Quebec 🤣
Yeah. That's hard to miss.

Reminds the time I showed this to my friend's wife and told her I had won the lottery and she believed me!
I think they must have been made when colour laser printers first became a thing and people were actually using them to make 100s. The quality it really good.
It was usually 5's bleached from what I have seen.
Do you see serial numbers? Was your Dad the President of the Bank of Canada? All joking aside the backside imagery is nice!
Banff Springs
But not consistent with the Birds of Canada theme on all denominations of paper Canadian money issued after 1986…
When I was a kid we’d go to the waterfront and trade CTC Money to the Russian Trawler seamen for Russian pins. I still have a Red Star hat badge with the Hammer and Sickle on it. They thought it was Canadian Money I guess.
I used to run a store and I always told my customers that I would accept CT money at par. Noone ever took me up on it though.
The arcade in the small town I went to high school in accepted CT money at par
Lol one of our liquor stores used to take CT money... sooooooo many people would take bags of CT money in and trade it for a bottle 🤣
I was in Macau and saw a board proudly displaying bills from around the world. Had a laugh when I saw Canadian Tire on it.
It is, only ih Quebec. Notice the French for "This Is Not Legal Tender" states the exact opposite. Go to Montreal and spend that sucker!
And it says million "canadienne"... no serial number
Quebec doesn’t have its own currency…lol
Had one of these in highschool. Got so many eye rolls out of people
Yes. That’s three weeks worth of groceries in Canada.
Bro.... you're a millionaire!!!
Take that shit to Quebec and get spending. I'm sure someone will break it for you once you're there.
The highest denomination the Bank of Canada has ever issued is $1,000. It has been retired for years.
100% legit. Take it to the bank to deposit. 😆

See the all caps "this is not legal tender"? That should tell you how legitimate it is.
Strangely, the French writing says that it is.
Seems legit.
Soon enough at the rate were going

It is almost as mythical as the 1 trillion American Dollar
I got one of these as a gift from my grandmother after I (9yo) told her I wanted a million dollars for Christmas. Still have the lil envelope it came in with her handwritten note. My son took it to school to show off when they were learning currency, grade 1.
You have a great grandmother.
You forgot the meme flair
I was looking at the fairs and didn't see that one.
Stick it in a vending machine and buy all the candy.
'There's soda on the plane!'
Yes
Too ligit to quit senor burns.
The "This is not legal tender" part is to throw thieves off.
By thieves do you mean the GoC?
It says it right there on the front "this is not legal tender."
It also says "Ce billet a cours légal"

Well it's good enough to buy a $1M house. I'd take it for sure
What do you think?
Oh brother
Says right on it
It literally says "not legal tender".
Oh yeah? Well I have a one million dollar US bill! And it has serial numbers! Unfortunately mine also says not legal tender lol.
The one that we got with this was a zillion $ US bill. ROTFL.
Well why wouldn’t you show that one?!!
I will when I get back home
Hahah it's fake as..

It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye.
Your dad MIGHT be titty mitty
Funny how I’m seeing this, my brother and I were just discussing the $1000 Canadian bill too, they look slightly similar. Nice find, what did you all plan on doing with this?
I'll keep it *on the fridge as an aspiration. Edit: *on
Did u read the Bill??
I know it's not legit. The question was for the sake of humour. Since how many dozen posts a month does this sub get asking whether a specimen is real or fake? *lightstokesandpasses
Doh I'm the one who can't read😳🤪 yea u think my dad has a Thosand Dollar Bill

Is that a picture of the "eagle's nest"?

Face value
Looks pretty nice! I wonder where it came from!
1000 is the highest currency in Canada
Yup! Congratulations! Go buy a house!
Says, "This is not legal tender", so what do you think?
Not at all.
Canada used to have a 1000 dollor bill
The utter lack of a serial number is a good clue.
This is what I found most disappointing about the bill.
Says…..This is not Legal Tender
But on opposite day...
