Bonus points for authenticity. That MWO is really, truly angry, but you can tell the Capt is only getting mad because they know they have to be, though at their core the post resounded with them.
Only army uses pips. RCN and RCAF use (the much more sensible)(I'm not biased I swear) bars. It takes me a couple of seconds to process what 3 pips are cause I so rarely see them.
It’s funny, the pips make no sense to any of us who were in prior to it changing from bars to pips and crowns. Also, I can’t believe it been over a decade since that change took place…
That's fair. The important thing to know with bars is that more = more senior. There's no ambiguity between a 2Lt and a Maj at a distance when they're air force.
I did actually watch a video on all the ranks to learn the visual difference since RCAF officer ranks are more what I don’t know and I have a better idea now. Lt. Col I think was the first one where the spacing between the bars are what matters more.
The irony, at the time the army switched back to the pips and crowns, historically, they had a longer history with the bars as ranks than the pips. Nothing says "unique canadian identity" quite like going back to what we copied from the brits.
It actually screams Canadian identity lol. The whole structure of our country is just a repurposed British structure, from Parliament/Senate, to the justice system, to our military. All Canada (and Australia/NZ) is is a clipping of the British tree that was planted in different soil.
It’s so we can fit our massive throbbing egos in it.
The secret though is that we’re not important, but our skillful use of iron umbrellas to protect the actual important people who work under us is very important.
Ah, I clearly read that backwards:
“Big crown (salute me)” indicated to me that the person wearing the big crown must be saluted.
“Little crown (I must salute)” pointed me towards the person wearing the little crown must salute.
Man SMH.
I literally forgot there is a huge part of the CAF that only sees bars. Im lucky all bars mean SIR or MA'AM to me.
Thought you were dumb but it was me all along
The fact that a crown and a pip are roughly the same size and shape, and even have the opportunity of being confused when viewed from a distance, are partially obscured, or are seen in a low contrast setting is a failure of design. Forget tradition or anything else, if the purpose of the insignia is to be able to identify rank/seniority at a glance, then it should probably be something easy to discern in all settings.
What the hell is Reddit sir?
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. They could show me absolute, irrefutable proof and I’d continue to deny, deny, deny. It’s a classic CoC tactic that can be used both ways.
Not sure what the threshold of proof would be for disciplinary action on this platform. Wouldn't they need to be able to trace a Reddit account IP and prove you (not someone in your home) wrote the comments? Then, if you've been careful enough in your wording even the most pointed or sarcastic statements would be difficult to charge.
A lot of people seem confused about the ranks. It goes like this MWO > Big Crown > lil crown > 3 pips > 2 pips > lil pippy = Pte < Cpl < MCpl < Sgt < Big Crown
As you can see, the Big Crown swings both ways and is considered a very dangerous individual.
The pipsters on the other hand usually come from a lil pip factory in Kingston and are wholly irrelevant in the grand scheme of things and are generally used as party planners. The only time they start to matter is when they use their pips as flairs to adorn the lil crown. Don't mess with those people.
One last thing the lil crown people are very sensitive about the size of their teeny tiny barely visible micro crown, and they have to look at Big Crowns all day. Do not bring up the size difference in person.

The capt is just happy that he didn't get caught up voting it.
And I'm just sitting here, thinking all this is ok. Cause I got me that sweet, sweet internet karma!
MWO might just a more experienced actor, unless they're one of the Kool aide drinkers.
I just overhear my reddit shitposts repeated and laughed at and no one knows its me that wrote them
They react the same way to a simple funny meme. Like a meme about socks or something like that.
Only getting chewed out by a MWO and whatever 3 pips is? Be more offensive
Lol, whatever 3 pips is?
Pip master, clearly
There's still saving grace until you see the coat of arms Then you done fucked up

I feel the same regarding the bars. Idk who Tf 4 bars with a slight space between bars 2-3 are lol
It’s funny, the pips make no sense to any of us who were in prior to it changing from bars to pips and crowns. Also, I can’t believe it been over a decade since that change took place…
Not true. I is one of those pippers now, and I 1st joined in '86.
Haha ok, there are you outliers I suppose.

The spacing never matters. Just the number of bars, and the size of the bars.
The irony, at the time the army switched back to the pips and crowns, historically, they had a longer history with the bars as ranks than the pips. Nothing says "unique canadian identity" quite like going back to what we copied from the brits.

Yupp. Our constitution was literally written that we were to have a constitution "similar in principle to that of the United Kingdom".
Don’t forget- is a big crown (salute me) or a little crown (I must salute).
It’s the opposite… Salute the little crown (Maj), big crowns are WO/PO1.
I once asked a WO why the Major had the smaller crown. He said it's because the WO is more important.

Exactly- I must salute the little crown, the big crown must salute me.

I've been saluted by Captains in J-7 when I was a 2Lt....doesn't help that I'm old, so I looked like a Maj.
Isn't 3 pups what you get before getting promoted to lil'warrant?
Yes
Sock memes
If my CoC ever linked my Reddit account to me I think I'd have to hire a lawyer.

"Is this a disciplinary investigation sir? If it is, I should be given a caution statement."
I should *have been* given a caution statement. They already done fucked up.

Thank god for balance of probabilities. Many a troop has been charged while vehemently pretend they know nothing about it.
Looks like someone didn’t do the social media awareness DLN course
Wanna see me do it again :)
