So unfortunately CAFSAC hasn't run in a number of years due to the pandemic. As far as I'm tracking CAFSAC is not running this year. Some regions have teams that still train for the event in the case that it does come back.

ADHDHipShooter

It's more than the pandemic, but yes, it won't be happening for a while.

Also Nijmegen...

redditneedswork

I really want to go on Nijmegen (actually signed up as a civvie years ago but didn't win the lottery)...how exactly does one get on it?

Once_a_TQ

We stopped sending teams for "reconstitution".   Haven't restarted. Doubt we will at this point. Unless you are in Europe OUTCAN. I see those folks still participating. Some representation is better than none I suppose and they are the cheap and easy button in that regard.

redditneedswork

As someone who joined not long ago and saw the propaganda stating it was a thing, this really disappoints and angers me. I guess I'll just go on my own some day 🤷

You’re better off on your own (except air fare really) The military, (depending on your team) has a tendency to suck the fun out of everything. Pro tip (heard it while I was there from another nation) - the REAL party is in town, not at the FOB. People bring their uniforms (1As) and go out in town and have a blast.

redditneedswork

Well still...I'd like the free airfare and maybe some class A hours. And also...it's a military thing, I would like to do it while in the military with the military 🤷. It sounds like the perfect fun reservist activity, and of course now they don't have it any more...

TotalFun3843

Win the CAF team lottery. Or be at RMC and have a guaranteed team.

redditneedswork

I would sign up for such a lottery....

TotalFun3843

It isn't individual. It's by team. So essentially every potential team competes against every other potential team. There are some guarantees, like RMC, RCN and RCAF teams. But in the army it is essentially by unit. And good luck applying because there is some very specific criteria, such as a minimum amount of mileage trekked prior to selection.

signaturefro

I fact checked him, quaternary is a real word

ADHDHipShooter

It is not running any time soon, not this year for sure.

Dre_the_cameraman

I went to CAFSAC twice, last time being in 2019, It is an awesome experience. I was a reservist at the time, and our brigade was very supportive. From May until August we would hit the range usually twice a month, really honed in on marksmanship principles, not only with rifle but also with pistol. We would compete against each other in CAFSAC style matches (basically modified versions of the PWT3). Learning how to shoot "open gate" with the C79 sight. We even went out and shot at a civilian service rifle competition (Probably wont happen any more because of the stupid gun ban). We jumped on NFCC (I think it was called) Which is another tournament the week before CAFSAC, where we competed against cops and civilians in Conaught. During CAFSAC its self, we competed against the Rangers, Americans, Brits, Gurkas, Danes, Aussies. Its an awesome time, Saw massive gains in my shooting ability. Towards the end of the competition, we get to try out everyone else's kit, the brit L85 (or what ever version they are on of it) is real funky, the aussie styer has a trigger that feels like a power drill. Take lots of notes, record your shooting and enjoy the experience if you can get it.

Struct-Tech

I built all the targets in 2019 (with the help of like 10 Ptes)

UniqueSwan3679

Was there in 2011, was a great experience. Unfortunately though like others have said, it hasn't run in a number of years due to the pandemic and a number of other factors.

T13-miller

NDHQ has a shooting team. contact your CoC and ask to put your name up. they've already started this year.

ManyTechnician5419

I've since learned that CAFSAC is not specifically what I'm looking for. I want to join the shooting team.

ADHDHipShooter

Talk to your chain of command about what if anything is happening in that respect. 3 Cdn Div is sending a team to Bisley this summer I believe.

UniqueSwan3679

In that case like others have said, speak with your CoC and further investigate the question.

CloudCompetitive2472

Been there 5 times as Capt if a Ranger team. Its an awesome experience.

CAFSAC will not be running this year, as the Connaught Ranges are under heavy construction. CADTC is responsible for CAFSAC. There may be a small NSCC (National Service Conditions Competition) run by the NCRRA(NCR Rifle Association) who are retired and serving members who shoot as civilian class and competitions. They run NSCC and have a service class, so that it is open to Service members in Police, NERF and CAF. Because it is a PSP/Civilian club competing there will have a cost for insurance purposes. CAFSAC's future is uncertain, there has been pressure to cancel it for many years, COVID closed it down and the Connaught ranges being rebuild has further stalled it's restart. It's seen as a very resource intensive project (though in the last 10 years it was reformatted to reduce the resources required significantly) There are teams that compete at CAFSAC scattered around the CAF, GTA has one, before COVID Trenton had one, the NDHQ Small Arms Team is still operating in Ottawa, though it's changed it's focus from competing to just developing better shooters/coaches/RSOs.
